PEDs are a very important discussion that needs to be had. The majority of influencers choosing to brush it under the rug causes more damage than being honest. Legality of PEDs is another discussion. The major issue that I see is when people who are clearly on PEDs push the narrative that they are natural and it's 100% based on genetics and training discipline. When people open up about their PED usage and discuss the negative effects and their experience with it creates a much more healthy environment and understanding which can help save people from damaging their body, improve their mental health by having a clearer view, and prevent people from dying needlessly from either abusing PEDs or taking their own life due to how they view their body and self worth.

If its "not what people think" it would be great for someone to outline a typical "hypothetical" cycle leading up to a major comp and what theyre doing in the off season other than test. In my experience, it's people doing a LOT that start to believe it's not that much as a coping mechanism. I have no issues with PEDs and support their use in strongman

There's a guy on here called Alexander Bromley who talks about that kind of stuff. He's not a current pro strongman so it's somewhat speculation, but he's a former enhanced athlete who also does some coaching & his claims sound plausible to me He's talked about things like tren getting popular certain years, which lead to more injuries & a decline in its popularity in the following years, etc. Reasonable sounding stuff, although I'm a lifetime natural casual lifter, so maybe I wouldn't know when he gets things wrong

Really interesting comments on PED use. It's a down-side I hadn't considered, that the assumptions everyone makes about extreme PED use in sports like strongman and powerlifting have a damaging effect on amateurs and hobbyists that think they have to match what they imagine the pros use in order to get anywhere. It's a shame that the pros can't be more open about the subject just for that reason. It would be a pity if people are damaging their health based on faulty assumptions.

“Trust me athletes are not using anything crazy” but then not giving at least an *example* stack (or even a general milligram range and some possible compounds) makes the answer seem dubious. I don’t even think Mitch is trying to lie, it’s just an unnecessarily unsatisfactory answer.
@aarons3014
@aarons3014 Месяц назад
A lot of people say this though. If it's a lie, it's an awfully common one. And it makes logical sense to me. People able to do this for a living have insane genetics, and a lifetime of working out. They won't need as much chemical help as a hobbyist whose genes are "only" better than 98% of the population.
@jettfuelfitness
@jettfuelfitness Месяц назад
@@aarons3014 I don’t think he’s lying, but the problem is the vagueness of the answer. Does ‘nothing crazy’ mean they’re using TRT? That would be ridiculous, they might as well be natural. Is it 500mg? 1000mg? 3000mg? One compound? Two? Three? Peptides? It’s true that amateurs often use more than the pros, but maybe if someone actually *knew* that the pros are using ~1000mg total, they wouldn’t bother using 5000mg. That’s the problem with the vague answer, it’s pretending to promote safer use without giving any boundaries of what safer use means.
@aarons3014
@aarons3014 Месяц назад
@@jettfuelfitness I know of one pro strongman who credibly claims to be natural. Even Chris Bumstead has talked about this, saying he and other Olympians take a lot less than people believe. Anecdotally, I've heard that some of the heaviest PED users are "normal"-looking women.
@MrAmadeus1998
@MrAmadeus1998 Месяц назад
Why would we give a stack? That’s like going to a random person and asking what medications they use, it’s useless and dangerous. PED use is based of personal needs, so any example stack would only apply to the person it was given to. Anyone copying it would be doing unneeded harm and probably could get more out of a personalized regime.

@dantethunderstone2118 Месяц назад
John haack runs like 300mg of test per week at the peak of his prep and a bit of anadrol. I know amateurs who run over 3 GRAMS per week and I’ve heard of people running over 5 grams per week Realistically the average top top strongman is probably taking somewhere between 500 and 1000 milligrams per week total, probably test c and 1 or 2 other compounds and maybe an oral, maybe some hgh but that is pretty pricy and peptides, particularly bpc157, are getting more popular. Some of the strongmen from countries where peptides are less controlled even advertise them

I’m not sure if you have the time to read these but I’m so incredibly happy you share the idea of strongman for all. As a former strongman, powerlifter, bodybuilder competitor I have found that when training clients of all ages, the modification of strongman type events brings more positive response and better results. Helping a 70+ year old get better quality of life by doing a dumbbell loading circuit to a bench such as an atlas stone medley can be arguably more beneficial and it’s fun. Obviously, modification is key but it’s something I’ve done throughout my professional career. I think a unique video may be a way to show how the lifts can be modified for an older person or younger person. Hopefully individuals look at strongman as more than a hobby, sport or spectacle and we can begin to see others drawn as they’ve done something similar. It’s tough to know how hard loading a 400+ lbs atlas stone but when in the context of a dumbbell load it becomes something they can fathom and appreciate. Thank you for all you do in general and the message you share. LHBK as always.

This video has a lot of cool information about strongman as a sport but since the internet hasnt changed since 2012 the comments seem to be mostly people mad that you don't list a juice stack that they believe they already know. And just like in 2012 those questions are used as a conversation stopper. Basicallly, "since I've decided I know what the pros take and I won't take that why should any of it matter?" More people should open up to lifting recreationally, like you said about participation. People don't get weird about local baseball leagues and those pros juice - I'd love for strength and physique sports to be thought of like that

Powerlifting and Bodybuilding maybe. Too much gear will be detrimental in Strongman simple for the fact that you NEED endurance. Tren will work for the first two no issues, you've got 9 lifts to complete in powerlifting with ZERO moving events or enduro events like picking up multiple 300 to 400 pound implements and running as fast as possible with them like in Strongman. Test will do well, anavar will do well, but still you can't overdue it or else you will lose endurance/speed and just bail out on the first or second day of comp. These men are genetic freaks, if there were million dollar sponsorships in it you would see even more pro athletes coming to it.

Nick cambi went that route. It seems a good one, however if you are a taller athlete. Competing in105s as a target on the way to opens is silly. Being heavier has its many benefits in the sport. If you look at the 105s like Tom Owen’s they are huge!!! And short too. So if you’re like 6’3 and in the 105s you’ll probably struggle due to having to limit body and muscle. Rather than being the competitive weight such as 120kg/130kg However, the u120 scene is upcoming, and a much more reasonable weight for people who want to partake in opens in future. Hope this helps

I dont think some people realize that most things like Tren, HGH, Anavar, etc, are illegal. They are a controlled substance. Which means possibly prison time. So asking someone if they use is like asking them which felonies they commit. Or, if the substances arent illegal, there's a fair chance whatever sport they compete in at least wants to "appear" drug free.
@detectivepenegrande

Tren is legal.

Not in Canada. American strongmen can't say they're on PED's beyond trt, but Canadians can and UK athletes can because they're not illegal. I think the real issue is probably sponsors not wanting their athletes to talk about it more than the legality of it.
@JoshuaOdionson
@JoshuaOdionson Месяц назад
I wasn't sure if it was or wasn't for Canadians so I wasn't going to say either way. But this question comes up a lot for top athletes, Mitch being one of them. World's Strongest Man and presumably Giants Live at least claim to be drug free. If a sport or federation of a sport says they're drug free and one of their athletes says they're using, that creates a tough dilemma for the sport/federation. I honestly care if someone uses if they're a legal adult. Even the more honest people who ask who are just curious about what stack someone is using, asking on the internet just isn't the best place for that.b

If it breaks your heart to see people damaging their health to become elite level strongmen, you could prevent some of it by being the first person on this particular subject by educating them. If no one will tell us how to do things in "safe" ways, we are forced to do guess work. Being able to make educated decisions is impossible if the people able to educate us are unwilling to speak. But I would understand if you don't want to damage your brand and make less money.

dont do it, that's pretty much it. it's basically impossible to get to a level where you need to take peds to improve, without coming across very good sources of information, and having the genetics, where it has a purpose in the first place is very unlikely. having the genetics just increase odds. of information coming to you

@@dantethunderstone2118 I'm more interested in what strongmen use on competition day. Test base year round or the months leading up is obvious. I assume tren, anadrol/superdrol, rad140 and/or halotestin on gameday. I'd love to know the doses used and the timing. Do they go oral hours prior and sublingual minutes prior..I'd love to know what Eddie was on the day he pulled 500. I'm sure Mitchell would love to know aswell but no one speaks about it. That's the problem. Want the sport to advance: knowledge is king. Want people to damage themselves less: Knowledge is king. Want to protect your business and not face public scrutiny: Avoid the subject. But then don't say it breaks your heart when people make damaging uneducated decisions. That's all.

I know a couple elite world class level strongman. They run like 200 mg per week test and like 100 mg a week deca cycled 3 months on and off. A couple others a few weeks before at very low doses. It’s so much less than bodybuilders. Like 1/5 as much

At 36 years old I decided to prioritise my strength, health, and fitness in January. Have been working out ever since. The day I walked into the gym I was 5 foot 6 and 270 pounds. I have always been a big man even though I never had fat rolls besides a belly. I have followed many bodybuilders and strongmen ever since. Here is my opinion as a complete beginner. The people taking risks and doing dangerous things are the ones who genetically should not be doing what they are doing. When I see skinny little guys trying to get bigger than Ronnie Coleman that is not good. Skinny guys who take all kinds of steroids winding up huge when they have really small bone structures. No wonder so many are on CPAP machines. People need to be realistic about their genetics. If you are 5 foot tall, you will never be Michael Jordan. The same way I will never be Brian Shaw. It is genuinely scary to see the before and after shots of some of these guys.

Increasing participation is a great way to get more eyes on the sport. I also believe that the powers that be running the main comps do a horrendous job of making the sport accessible from a visibility standpoint. That Eddie Hall, who has become a commentator for the sport, has to cut almost everything interesting out of his videos while commentating the events is pretty pathetic. The old guard is going to get eaten up by whatever Brian Shaw decides to do with having the preeminent Strongman comp.

I am getting really tired of strongmen/professional bodybuilders pretending like they have a reasonable stack. Mitch, everyone understand that you have to take copious amounts of PED's to be a professional athlete and no one denies that it takes a lot of effort and training to be THE best strength athlete. But everytime i hear PED users trying to downplay their amount, i hear GVS or NH in my head talking about the fact that users don't want other people to think that the drugs are more important. I would much rather you stop talking about PED's than lie/omit about the dosage and variety of pharmaceuticals. Every modern strongman has a pharmacist on speed dial and they are very good at managing doses.

I know your training Matters but what if someone found a better stack than the other guy

Not being transparent about ped means you take them all at crazy doses most likely. Not mitch in particular, but the strongmen in general. If not, they would specify what they do and dont do. No one minds tho since its obvious and also obviously needed to compete.

Would guess most strongmen are on around gram of test a week, plus whatever else... probably tren at least in heavy strength phases. Then "Trt" when "off cycle." Would bet a lot are using peptides for recovery. No one will talk because of sponsors and stigma, but no one is hitting 400lbs body weight, deadlifting 1000+ lbs and pulling airplanes completely natty If you really want to know, it's all about research, get on forums, read and learn... You can get a good idea of what people have to run to do certain things. Bottom line, Brian didn't go from a string bean basketball player to a Goat strongman, and Mitch didn't go from a slim marathon runner to his level with protein, creatine and a good diet.

I would love to see a true strong man competition - no PEDs of any kind, no deadlift suits, no belts, no straps - just pure strength of each man - natural grip & natural muscle strength - unaided in every event. Also I would like to see a separate award based on what percentage of someone's bodyweight is lifted - to give smaller guys a chance to win. Of course a 400+ pound guy can lift more than someone who is barely over 300
@briefcasemanx
@briefcasemanx 28 дней назад
I would love if there were a way to have true natural contests without PEDs but it's not possible. Doing awards based on percentage bodyweight will always favor smaller people. There are various reasons for this but one reason is that shorter people have better leverage.
@DrewThr91

I would like to add a point of contention to your response to the PED answer. The OPEN WEIGHT guys don't talk about it. The weight classes below open weight talk about it quite openly, some even giving "exact numbers" on how much of what they take and what their cycles look like. It's a shame the Open Weights don't also do this. If you all take way less than people think, surely being more open about it would open more people's eyes that it's more about your skill and talent. Unless, of course, you're lying and you take as much as people suspect . . . I'd like to add even if that is the case, obviously skill and talent is still the big driver. It would just be nice for you to actually tell us what you take
