Really interesting interview Stephen. I'm new to Ultras but after this year of 100k racing and a little 55 miler this weekend, I'm going for the Centurion Grand Slam next year...partly inspired by you and your wife! Looking forward to being involved in the first one next year. Keep up the great work, this channel deserves to be so much bigger!
@@victoriac2134 Thanks so much Victoria and apologies for going blank on your name when I was commenting. Your resilience is something else, congrats on an amazing year
Thank you 😊 apart from lack of training or injury, I firmly believe that getting to the end is largely about how much you want it & how much you’re prepared to suffer. Keep your head in the game. Suffering is temporary but the satisfaction of achievement lasts a lifetime. I hope you have a good one. Hopefully I’ll be out cheering you at SDW100.
Great interview. It seems they are the Arivaipa of the UK. That is awesome. There is some pressure for Jim to boycott UTMB so maybe he will do it since that would be easier than UTMB after WS100. The fact he mentioned it might be too fast of a race may attract Jim. He is jack of all trades in running all the way down to 1:04 half marathon. In my area , Jim ran a 6:09 Bandera 100K which will never be beaten since golden ticket status was taken away. Nobody ever got close during golden ticket status. The only key to SDW 100 is it better be well marked since he is hauling ass. I also want him to do Montane Spine Winter and break the record for good.
Wow, exciting. Gradually getting more overseas entries would be a great step forward towards making the SDW100 a truly international event. Getting elite runners in from abroad would be the icing on the cake!. I wish Centurion Running all the best in their endeavours. PS I am old enough to have run the SDW80 when it was the World Trail Running championship.
Great interview. Running 100 miles is still well out of my reach, but the idea of Western states coverage for the SDW is really exciting!! Would love to tune in to some live streams!
Sadly I'm still no better informed on what the majors are going to offer to runners. It seems to be all about race organisers that cannot even arrange a well structured series or tell us what the scoring system will be. If they want us to run our own local event plus one other WTH are the only 2 European events that can be easily accessed without air travel on the same weekend?
You can't just take some random races and call them 'World Majors' - sorry, no-one's buying that. If they evey ever did, then the grass routes runner at SDW gets replaced by people flying in from all over the world looking for series points, so no places for the locals and the big sponsors move in. The only winners here are the organisers, in their pockets.
