World War II warplanes| U.S. Air Force| Grumman JRF Goose
Creation history, flight and technical characteristics, aircraft modifications and combat performance.
Designed as a business seaplane, the Grumman "Goose" was probably the most successful light amphibian of the mid-20th century.
In the postwar years, dozens of these "demobilized" machines fell into private hands. They underwent all sorts of modernizations and re-equipment, and by the present time about 30 of them are still in operation. Moreover, in 2007 a small American company resumed production of such machines under the designation G-21G "Super Goose" (with turboprop engines).

The first American to graduate with a degree in aeronautical engineering, Grover Loening was one of the pioneers of the U.S. aviation industry. Among other designs, during the early 1920s he designed one of the world's first truly practical amphibious airplanes. In 1926 a group of U.S. Army pilots carried out a successful goodwill flight circumnavigating South America using five of Loening's amphibians. In 1929 Loening's company was taken over by Keystone Aircraft and moved from Long Island, NY to Pennsylvania. However, some of Loening's associates, including LeRoy Grumman, preferred to remain in Long Island and establish a new aircraft company of their own. Loening very generously permitted Grumman to use his highly successful float and retractible landing gear designs. Both were utilized in Grumman's first aircraft, JF/J2F "Duck", which service from 1933 until well after WW-II. Later, Grumman applied the same engineering to create the larger, twin-engine "Goose" and "Albatross" amphibians. Grumman also applied Loening's retractible anding gear design to the company's FF-1 F2F, F3F and F4F fighters. .

Thank you for this fact based documentary. I have a soft spot for all the inter war 'yellow wing' aircraft of the U.S. navy. Just took at look at your page showing the other videos you have made. Looks good, subscribed.

I really hate computer generated voice overs. FFS - get a real human being to tell the story, please!

Thank you for your comment. I understand you very well. The thing is, I can't dub the videos myself, and I can't pay for an announcer yet. I hope it doesn't take long.

Terrible presentation. The computer voice is very annoying. And just a general lack of flair in the presentation.
