The Book is a pretty good read and a unique take on the zombie genre. To summarize it’s written in a mockamentery style of story telling where the story is told through “interviews” of various people from around the world and their experience with zombie war. It’s a shame the movie was an In-Name only adaptation.
In case you're wondering about the differences between World War Z the book and WWZ the movie and game, don't worry because they have everything you love about- *THE TITLE.* And nothing else.
@@RavenKStudios All sarcasm aside, it should be noted that Max Brooks, the author of the book was aware of all the changes made and felt that the film was still good despite that.
@@RavenKStudios It is. It's really sort of a documentary about a war that didn't happen, it's a very easy read and fun, it's certainly different from most books with standard story structure.
I think WWZ the book is absolutely fantastic and it would translate very well to a television adaptation if someone who was interested in genuinely adapting the source material was in charge.
So as others have stated, the book and the movie are very different from each other. In fact, pretty much the only scene from the movie that is reminiscent of the book is Gerry Lane's conversation with Jurgen Warmbrunn, the Mossad official in Jerusalem, who is an actual character from the book. His conversation with Lane is pretty much like how Warmbrunn's interview in the book went. The book is a mockumentary set after the zombie war where we learn of the history of the war through interviews. Many many different and interesting perspectives throughout the world. It pretty much still is a very unique take on the zombie genre. I highly recommend checking it out. Oh, also, the zombies in the book are the Romero walker types. Not the tidal wave runners in the film. The World War Z game, despite being set in the film's universe, is arguably more faithful to the book compared to the film. The game references the book more than the movie did. For example, the military radio transmission that you hear when hovering over New York in the episode selection screen is a reference to the Battle of Yonkers from the book. I'll let you look into what the Battle of Yonkers is. Spoiler: Unlike in the film, Israel was actually the only country in the book that was able to avoid the zombie plague entirely because of Warmbrunn's report that confirmed that the zombies were real and that Israel was able to enact proper quarantine procedures, such as that big ass wall that you saw in the film. So yeah, with the exception of the zombies breaching the wall, Israel is pretty much the only part of the film that's accurate to the book, which is pretty much why I consider the Israel segment to be the best part of the film.
Great review! For me, a few years later, I'm still spending part of an evening or two a week with friends and randoms defeating the hordes. I keep coming back because it is simply so much fun to hone strategies and tactics for each class as you level them up.
World War Z: Aftermath does a better job at being a spiritual success to Left 4 Dead than what Back 4 Blood did, and that shows the reputation of Turtle Rock Studios currently. It's that bad
oh you're very wrong about the medic. I'd prefer to have a medic over a fixer on my team any day of the week on insane and extreme difficulties(which is what most players play). medics can pull your collective team's asses out of the fire by reviving you from a distance with the stim shot. The fixer is great, but his reliance on NOT FRIENDLY FIRING your teammates(which is hard when most players aren't on voice comms) mean that someone is going to lose a quarter of their health at some point to a single stray bullet. Also, the special zombies have directional sound and unique cues, enough for you to react. the lurker hisses, the bull fucking yells before charging(you can taze it with the slasher and dronemaster, and the hellraiser can chuck c4 at it to stop the charge in time), the infector has its own sounds, and the screamer makes itself very fucking obvious very quickly(its idle state is also quite loud on the occasion that it spawns naturally) also, it seems you're a dronemaster player. Try him with the stun gun instead, gun drones tend to suck really hard, we still haven't figured out how to not make them suck
@@RavenKStudios it's his only prestiged class, you can see it in the perk selection screen Also most teams aren't coordinated, most people play with each other using the matchmaking(the masochists who play on extreme like myself tend to use the wwz discord to play together), and even then a medic can and will pull entire teams out of the fire
I've played it with friends and we had no problems, we noticed a fixer, slasher, drone master and a gunner is the best combo. Sometimes we go even with two slashers.
21:00 Modding can make every single run unique to you, like I have a mod that makes the track Forces from Berserk play anytime a Tank appears, a mod that makes the Hunting Rifle into an SKS, scripts for Infinite ammo on the M60 and a better Magnum (plus an M6D), fucking Razormind for Mobs, more maps and campaigns, the possibilities and fun is endless.
i really like this game, the only big negative i have in this game is the prestige sistem for classes, i want to maks out all class perk but it take a really long time because the prestige sistem to get extra perk reset the class level. i only have 3 class that maks prestige.
@@iaintgonlie7858 agree. if you start as a 1st level and beat 1-24 waves you'll get 17lvl. two session and prestige is yours. I also find it boring. Fortunately I maxed my favourite classes and I dont need farming anymore xD btw I heard devs work on new horde mode XL, might it'd be more interesting
@@DmitryIsc199 Yeah I wished I known which classes were worth it tbh. Give me something that really buffs my class significantly. Once I finish my Drone, I am not looking to prestige again. Prestige perks are way too insignificant overall for the grind and boredom. Let me start with a specific weapon, let me get an extra equipment slot, let me respawn quicker etc. Reloading 15% is lame.
6:28 dunno if you know but on the original patent for the first suppressor it was marketed as the "Maxim Silencer." So theres nothing really wrong with calling suppressors silencers.
the game is really a lot of fun if you just want to turn of your head really hope the game continues dropping improvements and new chapters.. I'll buy them for sure
The WWZ movie only takes some very light ideas and the locations from the book, but leaves out a lot of stuff. For example, in the books Israel builds a wall as well to stop the zombies. Military carriers become massive refugee fleets. And North Korea goes dark. But there was never a vaccine to make people sick to hide from the zombies, instead the zombies had a brown sludge that somehow kept them from decaying fully, and they were slow but only a headshot could stop them. The book actually goes into tactics, the governments reaction to the outbreaks, and how religious groups took it. Oh, there was also a light Civil War 2. I think the movie is ok, but the only thing it shares with the book is a name and some locations. I highly reccomend the book.
WWZ is the main thing ..last for a long time and it's always fun to play .The devlopper spend huge amount of time around this guy and it shows . New DLC soon?
I have got the platinum trophy for this game on PS4. I bought the game when it first came out so I haven't got any of the dlc maps or the Aftermath expansion but I think this game is quite solid, probably a 7.5/10. It is quite a fun game to come back to every now and again but can get boring rather quickly so I usually only play here and there. One really big downside to this game is that the online pvp multiplayer is down right awful. The class system is pretty good if kind of grindy. Especially if you're looking to prestige your classes. The guns in this game are quite lacking in most aspects, including models, sounds and animations. Saber Interactive aren't that good at designing weapons in my opinion. For example when Saber took over the development and support of Killing Floor 2 the quality of weapons dropped drastically. Old weapons were recycled with slight adjustments added to them and the weapon animations were lowered quality wise along with the weapon sounds.
I'd say for the zombies they make it abit of sense with them turning with what they had on them for the bull an screamer, no different than L4D's clowns an riot zombie. As for the characters fair enough tho the game leans abit towards the book where it's about people's struggles an adventures more than character development. An well the game was inspired by WWZ more than lfd2, not claiming to be a successor unlike Back For Blood. Awesome video tho
The problem with zombies game like this nowadays are because every server only allowed 4 player to play with, the good and best zombie game are a game that can allowed so many players to fight those zombies, just look at l4d2 24 player server, litterally fun as heck to play with so many people and increase difficulty.
I feel WWZ is a good job as a spiritual successor. Is it perfect, god no. But the game is very fun and I can look past it's flaws because the developers clearly had passion. Would I love modding, absolutely. Would I love small changes like the soldiers having different models, sure. But the game has a very good loop and if they just expanded the horde mode with new maps, and maybe even let us choose characters for a campaign (as much as that'd break the story, imagine how interesting it'd be).
what killed the game for me was that the devs never fixed the asynch bug which made runs disgustingly unfun. schrödingers zombies everywhere. oh 200 zombies at the gate which needs defending? they arent real. but when a real one gets in there then have fun with the needle in the haystack. teammates fighting their own imaginations sooner or later.
You could be tired of zombie games now but may I recommend one more. Zombie Army 4 Dead War. It's set in 1946, your Amory is a mix of iconic ww2 weapons and a few out of the ordinary weapons as well. It's a campaign focused game and honestly one of my fav games. If you've heard of the Sniper Elite franchise, it's that but you kill Nazi zombies instead. If you would check it out it will be cool if you did a review
World war z is my top tier game I have it for Xbox and switch going to grab for computer soon I just wish the devs added more guns and episodes I did read articles on how there will be no WWZ2 because of something I forgot why but it did numbers in the charts They did start working on it but just stopped for some reason I can’t remember
I imagine in a zombie apocalypse countries would break open the arsenals. Zombies would be a much worse concern then the threat posed by well armed civilians to anyone with a working brain IMO
How is it that the L4D AI bots are better than modern AI for zombie games like WWZ and B4B like seriously, they are smarter than some regular players? Maybe if they make a sequel it'll be better cause there hasn't been a great zombie game like L4D.
It's performance related. It would eat up RAM very fast. Even in the old dawn of war games, if you play UA mod with no disappearing bodies and much bigger pop cap, the game lags like crazy pretty fast and the graphics are 20 years old.
I sadly haven't played WWZ, although I kind of want to now. Also, apparently the Book and Movie are very different from each other and only share a name.
I tried back4blood kept getting bots and no matches made so I uninstalled. I think the player base is dead. So I was wondering is this game worth downloading, in terms of is the matchmaking good and still plenty of players? I would try it, but I don't know if there is much of a player base on series X.
Thanks for the nice video and info but can you still play this game without freezing and error system code error issues?.. The game is no more playable, for a long time I'm waiting a fixing update for the PS4 Pro to be able to play again this game...
It would be really intresting to see what russian guns would be due to their very strict gun laws but for most of us. Russian owning guns is a natural thought. Amazing video of something most of us expect to be generic or bad
I just have one questions that I can't find the answer to, do you get to play the original world war z in this new aftermath version or is it only this new game
Go read the book....the book is way better then the film.....in fact the film is way to inaccurate to the book, that only similar things between them are name of film....yeah thats the only similarities
But isnt this game so buggy. I would of played this if i had a good enough pc to play it. Now i have a 3080 and 4k setup the game is old and no ones plays it now so its point me playing it as i dont like games with bots as your team mates as there always useless
Thank you so much for acknowledging how trash the movie was. I think its important to say because of how closely linked the game is to the movie. (Not saying the game is bad) I just stayed away from it for several years because of the dogwater taste left in my mouth by brad.
There's something I don't like about WWZ: zombies are weightless with ragdoll physic, they overreacting to any attack, so it doesn't matter if you're shooting them with a shotgun, pistol or melee weapon, they're poorly animated so killing zombies it's not really satisfying
unsure if I just got lucky when i decided to play it on gamepass ( 2months after this post) I havent had any mp issues yet for pve mp anyways yet to try any of the pvp mp stuff
I no longer like this game cause of the broken big zombie literrally running and ignoring walls broken af just to take you and slam you to the ground pluss the new green zombie that makes all zombies 1shot down you makes this game unplayable i no longer play this shit game not to mention teammates are a joke worst that bots
