Fun little details: with the backstories, they’re all in different art styles to reflect each character. And the priest, Sergei, was involved in the stories of the other Russian survivors, as he paired up with the lawyer (Ivan), and helped save the anarchist (Timur) and scientist (Oksana). And for clarity with Tashaun, the firefighter, he suffered survivor guilt and PTSD after being the only survivor of his unit after 9/11

Just hearing Bethany's movie story was worth requesting this. My two favorite, both backstory and through the game, is Sergei the gangster turned father.

The game is like a combination of the movie and the novel. From the movie: the zombies’ behavior. From the novel: each set of characters play through a slightly modified version of events from the book. The game includes a variety of special infected meant to disrupt your team

Also Bunko my favorite. Most relatable character. Learn to be ok being alone. In that isolation you either crumble and fall or find strength to stand and move forward.

World War Z game is pretty cool. It's similar to Left 4 Dead where it takes place across different campaigns in different countries with each country letting you play as 4 different playable characters each with their own backstories. In the base game, the four locations were Jerusalem, New York City, Moscow, and Tokyo. It eventually got an updated version called Aftermath which added 3 additional locations, that being Marseille, Rome, and an additional campaign with the Tokyo survivors in the Kamchatka peninsula. It sucks that we didn't get these cool character backstory videos for the French and Italian characters, some of them would be interesting as, if I remember correctly, one was a Weapon's Manufacturer for an Indian company and the other was an avantgarde Indie French filmmaker. It would have been cool to see these backstories in video stories.

This 4 player co-op is a crazy ride with multiple classes you can play. Just recently it got a update that lets you play as any character on any map. The original setup is 4 different areas around the world. A couple groups have been added though. Definitely worth playing if you want to have some fun shooting zombies.

Each row of 4 characters corresponds to which campaign you play through. The first row takes place in Jerusalem, second New York City, third is Russia, and fourth is Japan. Theres a 5th campaign that came out that takes place in Russia following the Post-Evac Japan crew during a nasty Russian winter

I love the game, it's 4 player coop against massive waves of zombies. Only issue is that sometimes connection with the server isnt great so some of my friends stopped playing, and so did I.

Im pretty late to this reaction, but as a few others commented, the game takes both aspects from the book and movie. The zombies themselves are from the movie and have special infected, however, in the novel the zombies are the typical slow moving literally brain dead as they’ll repeatedly do certain things indefinitely. Some of the events in the game are taken from the book, such as the Japanese government evacuating the island as it lacked firepower, the New York chapter taking place during the battle of Yonkers, which goes horribly wrong in the book, the Russian winter being one of two advantages Russia over the massive zombie swarms that can be seen from space in the ISS, and Israel being the only nation to take the early zombie outbreaks seriously and fortified Jerusalem, but in doing so decreased massively in size.

While this never hit L4D/2 levels of hype and retention, the game managed to carve out a respectable niche especially on console. The game is also a bit of dark horse in thematics as well, straddling between the book and the movie. The movie is your standard spectacle fare, while books gets far more involved with both the political and day to day consequences of having the earth covered with living dead. The game takes a bit of both to kind fo do its own thing, and it turned out surprisingly well.
