I remember being at Darlington Dragway in March of 1987 when Bill Kuhlman ran the very first 200mph pass in a door slammer. It was in the Top Sportsman class about 3 or 4 years before Pro Mod became the spin off class. Not only did he break 200, he really killed it with 202.24 It was also Darlington where the first ever 5 second pass was done by door slammer, Mitch Stott, I was there for that too, maybe 100 people at track, was a test day, not an actual sanctioned event. He ran 5.98
All NHRA sportsmen events are run 1/4 mile. NHRA Pro Mod, Pro Stock car and bike, Top Fuel Harley are all run 1/4 mile. NHRA TAD and TAFC are both run 1/4 mile. Where you been looking?
I am old enough to remember, when Big Daddy Don Garlits, broke 270 in a T/F Dragster. Much respect to them doing it, without nitro and in a doorslammer
@@neilreid2298, No kidding dude, In the 80's when i used to watch the brackets at the local 1/8 mile (Warner Robins Dragway), the fastest guys could only hit a high 4 on a perfect day on a perfect track, now they are hitting high mid 3's without even trying. i remember Don Garlits running 5.10's and approaching 250 MPH. Yeah amazing how far things have come for street cars to hit these kind of numbers
Its not weird. Its by far, more interesting to see someone even make a caddy dragster regardless of if it won or not. Most people hear Cadillac and automaticlly think slow as a brick and for many years they would have been right. It wasnt until the the luxury cars needing high performance speed trend established by bmw Mercedes and lexus, but then cadillac was forced to do something to stay competitive. And then there was matrix movie and its white caddy, that cadilac started being concerned with speed and making quick cars. Even now when someone says Cadillac, I am used to the last 3 decades reputation of Cadillac, being slow luxury grocerie getters for people over 65.
My favourite class of drag racing, blower, nitrous and turbo in one class, well balanced it seams also. pretty sure European top fuel average about 270/300mph passes so this is exceptional
The ⅛ mile is the way to go... That's where the race is... After the ⅛ mile the rest is just holding on... You really got to drive the car in the ⅛ because you got to get it to hit harder then you would in the quarter ¼ mile... You tires are turning faster at the start than in the quarter... But I will say the ¼ mile racing is easier on your car... Your not shocking the car as bad... And you pick it up on the other end...
Blower car strong in the 60 foot but loses it on the top end.... that's why they and the nitrous cars are good for 1/8 mile. I was just thinking about when nitro dragsters and funny cars were running this fast.
That's a gen1 turbo. Gen2's are quicker off the line even. They've increased so much now that the blower cars are asking and demanding weight increases. Go look at the front of a promod turbo car now and see all the ten pound plates on the front. It's funny because years ago, Stevie Fast made a joke video about turbos demanding a weight gain for blowers but now blowers can't compete with the new turbos spooling on higher rpm ranges with co2 injection.
turbos. and technology along with turbo charging. displacement doesent matter. the engine is just a pump if you have shut tons of boost you can go fast with a go cart engine
2015! five years old. Folks, it is going real interesting what racers do in the very near future when every new automobile from every manufacturer will only have a four-cylinder engine and hybrid electric / full-electric power plants! ( supercar/hypercars excluded) Trucks also will be four-bangers - with V6 hybrid engines offered. I believe the day will come when top fuel funny cars and dragsters will go the way of the Dodo bird.
Jegs is a racing company. They damn well BETTER be breaking records or they'd be pretty damn pathetic wouldn't they? Check out the 100s of stickers from sponsors they have :p
Justin Jones ran 5.51 at this same event in 2019. Imagine the ET if you could combine the 60’ of a supercharged car with the terminal speed of a turbo car. It would be low 5.40’s
Except a funny car goes 1000, not 1320. Trust me when I say that a Funny Car would put another 50-100mph on that speed with another 1/3 of track to race on now.
What nitro doorslammer? Those were both on racegas. Trust me bro, Nitromethane is so easy to spot. Everyone either has a mask on or is crying, the ground is shaking so bad that shit is falling off railings everywhere. When they bust a burnout, it's with the nitro turned way down or even off for alcohol because they'd eat part of the clutch/engine doing it. That's why a nitro car needs to have the hood lifted after a burnout. They pull a tie and it turns the nitromethane right up. Engine sounds much deeper because it's actually technically running on a cooler fuel which is why they use Nitro in the first place...the fact that it's power to heat ratio is pretty much unmatched in the world. Lastly, NOBODY in the burnout box even attempts the fingers in the ears thing for sound. EVERYONE has full ear..well for different reasons...first they're crying from the nitro, second a nitro burnout is like twice as loud as racegas one third, fingers just don't work for when those bitches unleash. Any long term nitromethane person is smart enough to know you can't go near one without gear to save your eyes and ears. Most power, most cooling but it's insanely violent. Fun fact...EVERY race they burn a full clutch, every plug, bust shit, bend shit and just create so much chaos from making 10,000HP that they have to pull the full engine apart EVERY run...no "Doorslammer" in this world could even pull an engine and replace it in the time an NHRA Nitromethane car takes to pull an engine apart, toss broken or the WELDED clutch plate stack in the garbage and replace the engine back. Anyways, this has been a post from Dr. Obvious.
And also, the pro mods run on racing gas or alcohol. Troy Coughlin's corvette is turbocharged while the Cadillac in the other lane was supercharged. The only nitro powered pro mod belongs to Scott Palmer.
Accufab Mustang still more impressive for the fact that it uses stock block, heads and sometimes cranks!! and he's only getting faster!!! o and it's under 300 ci!!
These aren’t domestic cars. You can’t buy one. These are drag cars. They would smoke any import. This is pro stock drag racing. These cars have a much higher top speed. They are doing it on the 1/4 mile so they can only do 270+ on this track size.
K1 I know they are drag cars 🤦🏻♂️ guess what though they are still considered domestics also what funny cars runs in the 3s? Cuz these are doorslammers and imports had the fastest pass at Mdir for years also running 5.66 however the car running that caught fire however now the imports that are in the 5 sec range are constantly running 5’s we hit 5.55 trapping 262 my freind leaving most domestics In the dust
SSJX FATE Funny car racing and pro stock are different dumb ass. Also this is a video from 5 years ago. If cars now are just beating pro stock drag cars from 5 years ago then it might be considered a pro stock car would smoke the new imports.
For all the downhill TARDS come to Vegas and you will see its just the shutdown goes uphill which is a bonus For all the aussie and NZ fans how do you keep your cars from falling off the earth You are upside down you know Oh that's right the earth is Flat Just Sayin
Hola soy jaciel palacio Garrido me gustan mucho los autos americanos són mejores y buenos autos americanos porqué son a nibel mundil y del mundo mundial soy jaciel palacio Garrido
Because it's a fiberglass lift of body if u where to shut it and look at the ground you can see it and halogen fire bottles through the car if the driver hits that button or heat gets to it the fire bottles will go off for 45 seconds giving you enough time to get out
+andy watterson they don't run as fast on flat ground so let's go to a advantage for world record , cause they ain't the best ? hello 308's have more power and they don't want to admit it haaaaa!
Irving Sanguinetti A couple tracks run down hill. Some run uphill. That long of a distance is deceiving for how low the track is. That's probably only a foot or two at the most drop.
