Mr Gaimon. I’ve watched most of your videos and read the three of your books enough that they have that feeling of a classic movie. I’m extremely tired of them but am also aware that if they’re put down for a year that they will provoke the same nostalgia as when I used to horde Velonews magazines. Your videos are gems. Each has its own little place. The longer efforts with data overlay and commentary go very well with doing weights or stretching at home before bed. The training videos such as the ones on eating were somewhat known about since I’ve gone to college for a coaching course[with limited success] but the topics such as the worldtour workouts provided some new areas to explore. The format they were put together is awesome. Thanks for making them. When I started watching your stuff. It brought a sense of a balance. There is a bit of family history behind this but for a long time I’ve used cycling as a means of coping but it also turned a bit twisted. Too much focus on trying to get better without knowing where it would lead. I took the wrong mentality with me and began to turn it from something I enjoyed to something that separated me from everyone else. I put a little too much time and money into it where it should have been put in the pursuits of some more normal things like buying a car. [Still don’t know why my family didn’t roundhouse kick me in the head for that one.] So, the point I’m coming to in a roundabout way here is thank you. During the spring of 2018 I was in a position to do the next race and keep being broke or work on things the other way round and try to get my life on track. You put a little voice on the things I was struggling to answer. I was getting better and faster but in the end it was not worth how chaotic and crazy life was becoming and I wanted to say that you influenced me to quit for a bit. It was far and away the best thing that’s happened to me. I’m slower now for sure but much is better now. Thank you Phil.
Hey Phil, just been really getting into your videos. They're so much fun! Love the humor and bike content combined. Motivated me to donate $100 to the charity seems like a really worthwhile cause. Hope you hit your goal!
A timely topic Phil. I'm out for a 30mile easy spin with a mate recovering from surgery (him not me) and back on his bike after nearly a year...day after I'm on a 100miler with a London-Edinburgh-London veteran (92hours was her time...total time) so I will use tomorrow as my opener as Saturday may be a bit more taxing fo'sure. Great regular content Phil, appreciate your work on these.
I was always to focused on numbers and data. My takeaway from this is: stop as soon as your legs feel good. Thanks for this its an advice that relaxes me and that is needed the day before. All the best Phil!
Thank you! I love these explanations. I want to know all about group rides! Etiquette, terminology, etc. Is there a pecking order? What formalities are there? Spill the tea!
It's quite individual though. I can't go too hard because the fatigue hangs around a little bit longer. For me, a few sub-maximal 30s efforts are enough to wake things up again, but others need more or it doesn't even register to the body.
