Gabriel Benjamin began teaching yoga in 2001 and holds five certifications in Yoga and Ayurveda. Gabriel is also an avid cyclist, writer, and nature guide. He lives in Santa Cruz, California and leads retreats and workshops around the globe. Thank you for this seriously, I'm a bike food deliverer and I use my bike to travel and hour there and back to my weekend job - My body is always on the go. I've been using another video, but I'm excited for one that focuses on strength as well - I don't want to injure my lower back - so I'm excited for the ab burners

Thank Phil. 7 weeks ago I had knee surgery and spent 2 weeks icing and 3 a week PT. Went back to work and 4 days later I found out I was exposed to the virus, then spent 14 days in isolation in my bedroom (no symptoms) . Then work put me on telework for the next 14 days. I was able to walk around my back yard when the weather was nice and my wife got me a trainer for my bike to ride in the garage (my pain cave). Thank you so much for this video, I will be doing this work out. By the way, I have been giving money to my local food bank here in Virginia. Stay Safe.

Great for bone density too:) Our aim was to cover all the bases and keep under a half hour. If you have extra time you can try laying on your back 5-10 mins after the end if you want to really sooth the nervous system.

Cycling in LA is legit! I live in nor cal but love to make it down there in the winter and spring~ it is cold sometimes but if you are there for two weeks you’ll have summer temps even in winter at least a couple days!

I've been doing the rounds on all of the "yoga for cyclists" videos on youtube. In a lot of the videos, the demonstrator is going full pretzel into positions I could never dream of getting even half way into. Sure, I do my quarter flexibility version of it, but it's still pretty discouraging. This one is great because, while Gabriel is obviously extremely flexible, he's keeping all of the exercises very achievable for real life cyclists that have no background in doing yoga.

Yes accessibility is exactly what I’m going for! I’ve been a cyclist longer than I’ve been a yoga teacher so I remember what it’s like to start from scratch... it took a long time for me to learn it’s not important to excel in yoga, just enjoy it and do it regularly. Thanks so much for your comment

Great video, thanks Phil and Benjamin. Will doing this routine regularly help with my stiff shoulder due to a previous trapped nerve, which starts to cause me a problem and discomfort after a couple of hours on the bike?

The good news is you don’t need flexible hamstrings unless you are trying to time trial or be super aero~ it will be helpful though to stretch as a form of not getting stiffer. Good luck!

Stretching does NOT prevent injuries. No meta analysis shows a significant correlation. In the othr and strenght training seems to prevent injuries

I enjoyed doing this routine but probably would have been laughed out of the yoga studio if Gabriel could have seen how tight my hamstrings were. Particularly the bending over to touch the toes part, and the part where he uses the strap to get his leg perpendicular to hi torso while he's lying on the ground. I could only get my leg to about 45 degrees... Any specific advice for tight hamstrings? Thanks.

Firstly I wouldn’t have laughed at you for tight hamstrings~ I’ve seen a lot of them in the two decades I’ve been teaching. Bending your knees will help and in the standing forward bends wider feet. The stretch with the strap is probably the best... regularity is the key. Keep using this video and if you need more custom instruction hit me up for a private lesson or a custom video series.
