Good morning Bernie, Queen of Vermiculture! 👩‍🌾🪱👍 I love watching how you take care of your babies. I take care of mine with the same care. I feed daily because we eat daily. Each morning as I chop Strawberries and a banana for our breakfast, I chop up peel and tops for them. When we finish with our coffee I take the grounds and cool them in the freezer for 15 minutes and then crumble them on top. I grind Eggshells in my coffee grinder so it's superfine. They are living creatures and deserve to be taken care of. You taught me this in July of 2009 and I remembered everything you said during our brief visit. I'm glad you started a channel so I can watch exactly how you do it. 👩‍🌾🪱👍

Good Morning Peggy ~ Such a delight to hear from you again and I am so pleased that you are being a great steward with your worms ! You learned much in 2009 and I am so thankful that I was able to teach you!

Awesome info thank you . I intuitively did wait with the castings after my first harvest !! and yes found 5o more worms of various sizes and many babies. !! I loive the info about leaving castings on . I have seen some farmers completely ' denuding' the worms of all castings and it felt awful. The baby comparison is so lovely . Blessings from Oz .

My baby worms are in the top layer where I put the food to break down. The baby worms will grow and get fat! If the baby worms get fat will they still be able to fit thru’ the tiny holes to get to the next layer down.?

Thank you for your knowledge. I see your using one of our worm farms from Australia. I am just starting out with a raised Vegi Plot and will be buying the same worm farm that your using.

do the cocoons hatch inside the worm cafe if you don't take them out?
@alaskansourdoughwormsgarde4392
I watched this video a few days ago and realized wow that's really a good idea to allow the cocoons to hatch. Well I was nearing my three-week period and my husband decided to clean his guns. I don't know whether he closed my bin or I did but this morning I opened it up and they must've all hatched at the same time and when I opened the bin there were just a mass little tiny babies dead all over the bin and the lid. I just wanted to cry but I've learned a lesson, the bins will never get closed I don't care I will watch that thing like a hawk from this day forward and make sure that none of them get covered tightly again so thanks for the good information and a lesson learned.

Very interesting about the farming of the cocoons and waiting for them to hatch, I just need to incorporate this idea with someway of separating the worms ( hatched ones) from the castings, so it’s not as labour intensive as showen in this video. Maybe using a screen to sift the castings, if sounds equally as labour intensive ??

daak1234 use a double tray with rollers,takes very little time to do this.most worms and large pieces stay on top,the eggs stay on the bottom screen and casting lands on the table,all over with in 5 minutes
