I am twenty-seven years old. I am a full-time college student who works 30 hours/week. It has ALWAYS been my dream to live off of my own little farm... You are such an amazing, inspirational person! Thanks for all of your wonderful videos! Maybe, at some point, I can still pursue my goals of being a computer programmer while STILL being able to live that lifestyle... you have given me a goal. Thank you!
BTW, good condition is NOT necessarily indicative of lack of parasites. Someone I know sends out fecal samples and deworms based on results. All of her horses are in good weight, well muscled, and have nice coats. Several had numbers that indicated definite need for at least one product to take out specific parasites.
Those are only as good as the worm population at time of fecal - it is helpful, but not definitive. I prefer to have it done as a double check after new horses are added to barn or pasture or after horses come back from show season - to help make sure my horse is "safe". I still use the DE anyway.
Hi, Becky! I am new to your channel, but I’m so glad I found you! I love your all natural approach and your awesome little farm! ❤️ I recently started caring for two sale barn horses and I believe one of them brought lice or mange with her. She is around a year old and has patches of bald spots on her back and neck. Now the other one is losing hair on her neck too. Have you ever dealt with lice or mange?
What if you have limited pasture space? How often should you give it to them. I’m trying to open up my property to rotate them around but for now I have a small are. I’m feeding hay daily due to lack of fresh grass and I give them grass pellets when I feed but the traditional dewormer is costing a small fortune. Thanks
Love this video and love your farm! I'm wanting to use Diatomaceous earth for my horse to worm him, but not sure how often to give it. How often do you worm your horses?
I will deworm with DE for like 7 days in a row in the spring, April and then again in the fall, November. Now if I get a new horse I will deworm daily for a month once the horse is drinking well and hydrated. Then I see how it looks and take it from there☀️❤️☀️
Hey Becky how long does a 10 lb bag last, what's the out date? I only have one horse but I'd like to save money if possible by doing this method vs store wormers if the results are going to be the same more than likely.
Hi Becky- I'm just wondering if you perform regular fecal counts on your horses to verify their worm count is under control. I'd like to use D.E. to control parasites because I hate giving my horses chemicals every month, but I've read articles that state that when tested clinically D.E. did not prove to be effective in controlling worms. Do you have evidence with empirical evidence to show that this really works?
I have a toy fox terrier who weighs about 9 pounds, and two king charles cavaliers that weigh 17, and 18 pounds. How much D.E. would I give to each of them?
G'day Becky! Thanks for all the helpful information :) About DE-worming animals, do you DE-worm your donkey Doodles? If so, do you use the same procedure and do you have any tips of Donkey worming?..and do donkey hooves/feet ruin the ground in any way similar to horses? It'd be much appreciated if you could make a summary Donkey-guide/care (including the pros&cons of Donkeys) video on how to best care for such wonderful creatures and how you handle Doodles. There's not much online about keeping Donkeys and I reckon your valuable information would really benefit those just like me, who are wanting to learn about Donkeys. Again THANKS SO MUCH! I've watched your videos for years, currently about to subscribe to you now that I've got around to making a utube account :D
Hey Becky! Thanks for the info, I do have a request though. Would it be possible for you to do a video on worming chickens and dogs with the diatomaceous earth? I just bought some DE to use as bug dust in the garden, so finding out it pulls double duty as a natural wormer also is music to frugal folks like myself. Thanks in advance! :-)
Good to know. My Arabian doesn't have a worm-gut. Gets hay daily though she just eats the 'loose' parts of it when she was never picky before and 3-Way isn't an issue with her at all. She's been losing weight for no reason despite being fed well. I've been trying to figure out if it's a minor case of worms or she needs her teeth floated. If you can pass some advise, Becky, let me know. I would love to get her back to her old self again.
I would get the teeth floated. i would also try adding Probios or yogurt to their diet, try putting them on soaked(about 2 hours til fluffy, never soak over night because it can start to ferment) beet pulp to add more fiber to the diet, also try adding a diet with more plant based protein, such as Healthy Edge by Purina. also try a worm purge, like this video, several days of deworming, several off, several on.
Becky, how do you know they are worm free.? To be absolutely sure, do a worm count. And it’s a good video suggestion for you. There are a few on RU-vid. I do want to make sure diatomaceous earth works. A vet told me it doesn’t. That vet may be a big pharma puppet. Do you have any studies completed on using diatomaceous earth? Your animals look great.
+brightpurpleviking I do not think this will work for heartworms because they live in the bloodstream and heart. This only works on gut dwelling parasites.
DE works somewhat well but, sometimes worms do build up a Resistance to a single type of dewormer. also please tie your rope halters correctly. I have a a video if you want to learn. i like how you explain why spot worming doesn't work, i knew chickens can get worms. -thankyou happy homesteading
Reading comments here for only 4 minutes, not even all, it is plain to see that this channel has SO many trolls, batting for the pharma industry, and for meanness, period. What a pathetic culture they live in, so inhumane. They obviously have no lives of their own to focus on.
There is nothing natural about feeding microscopic sharp fossilis to horses. Unfortunately, it doesn't kill enough internal parasites to help the horse either and the abrasive nature of the spiky silica can harm the soft digestive tract. What was your latest fecal worm count? It's the only way to see if your horses are infested.
According to that site it cures everything including headaches, diabetes, high blood pressure, stress and "bad fat". It is nonsense. It would be lovely to have some magic natural powder, but unfortunately it isn't so. Please get worm counts done. If they are low, then that's fine and you know your horses are safe. I know you want the best for your animals, but sometimes people mislead us, especially about so called natural products. All the best to you.
+D She There's nothing natural about commercial horse dewormers either. Furthermore, you eat diatomaceous earth frequently enough, as it is used to keep insects out of nearly all grains during storage or shipping. So why again is it not good enough for a horse?
Tia Roberts Yes, for internal parasites. It would depend on how large your pets are how yo apply D.E. But, look here on youtube, there are plenty of vids about natural flea treatments. Like lavender, etc.
You are aware that vets cost money, more money. Money she needs for the animals. If you've had dogs and cats then you know just for the cost of spray/neuter is 250- and up. You should know things about money before you say something
That horse is too small For you you need a bigger horse . That works as under 14 ends I think 14 hands or under You need a bigger horse if you're going to ride and as far as the mustache's Earth I use that to kill roaches . There used To be a kind that add fiber glass in it And when the roaches would walk through it or eat it The Bible glass would kill them I I grew up with horses all my life and add horses since I was 8 years old and I know a lot of stuff about horses I And that course is too small for you
well not really, DE is not dangerous, and really a horse with a bad worm load has OTHER issues besides worms. ALL ANIMALS HAVE WORMS. When an animal is extra stressed or sick or otherwise unhealthy, the worms gain a greater foothold and become a problem. Wormign horses every few months is BAD FOR THE HORSE. Ever vet will recommend NOT to do this, but instead run a fecal on EACH horse and THEN decide on treatment. But in our fluffy little horse world we just want to think there's a magic bullet for everything.
This chick Becky's free advice on ways to use Diatomaceous earth pretty much was an answered prayer.......for our whole family After 3 yrs of alternating chemicals and following veterinary recommended methods of fighting worms and parasites that had become resistant to the worm paste made from chemical in our daughters 30 yr old horse..... So you might want to reconsider listening to the things Becky the chick with a chubbymule says! We were fighting a losing battle on saving a horse and were thinking it was about to be over ...our daughters horse was one day away from death.... Truly it was only by the grace of God we stumble upon a video of this kind ladys ( well you say chick) so chick it is! This super chick and her D.E. method to worm all the animals .....I love her dearly and can never thank her for sharing her knowledge and experience free of charge! God bless Ms.Chick aka Becky! And her chubby mule lol and all her precious healthy (may i add)bless all her animals ! She is doing something right! Lets see yours !?
