Hi to whoever this video may reach. My name is Aly, and I studied psychology, I believe just to be able to self-therapy myself at the end of the day. Recently, I decided to start online therapy, only to realize after a few sessions that all I'm essentially doing is squeezing my entire week or things triggered during the week into 45 minutes. Therefore, I thought to myself, instead of saving all these emotions and thoughts for my therapy session, I will just speak into the camera exactly as I would in therapy, but on the other hand, perhaps meet people who truly understand me.
Reminders for overthinking:
- Making mistakes is a part of life
- Your thoughts and fears aren’t facts
- If you are doing the best you can, it’s enough
- These racing thoughts won’t last forever
- Whatever happens, you can get through it
- Things can always work out better than you think
- You and your future are not defined by your past
Things you don’t need to feel guilty about:
- Protecting your energy
- Recharging in solitude
- Removing unsafe people from your life
- Filling your cup first
- The length of time it takes you to respond
- Personal life choices
- Eating
- Your idea of fun & hobbies
- Asking for help
- Your spiritual/ religious beliefs
- Saying no
- Your imperfections
Grounding techniques to get back into the moment & protect yourself from anxiety and panic attacks:
The first step, of course, is to recognize and WANT to change course and feel what you actually want to feel.
- Bite into a slice of lemon/ taste a bit of hot sauce/ dark chocolate (for the soul lol)
- Name the colors around you out loud („The coach is blue, my shirt is red.. etc)
- Hold an ice cube and concentrate on the melting process
- Rub your palms together until they’re warm from friction
- Pick up an object and think of as many words to describe it as you can
- Clench and release your fist for 10 times
- Listen to uplifting music/ watch funny videos
- Run water over your wrists/ take a cold shower
- Count backwards from 100/ Puzzle
- Exercising/ stretching/ meditation
- Visualize a happy & safe place
- No social media
- Yell into a pillow/ Squeeze a stress ball
- Create something/ Art & Doodling/ Journaling
- Kind self-talk
Also this weekend is the last Quarter Moon in Aries until 1st of July,
This moon phase is a good time to reflect and figure out what you want to focus on. You might feel extra energized, so use that energy to make changes to your life. It's a great time to think about what you've learned this month and see if you've achieved the goals you might set three weeks ago. Before you start anything new, take a break and think about how you're doing. Maybe there are some things you need to change or let go of to make space for things that make you happy. This is a good time to make big decisions you've been thinking about. But don't rush yourself, take your time. Remember, everyone is different and on their own journey, so don't compare yourself to others.
