Looks like a well balanced approach to what tech a normal sized church needs, not desires. Love the fact that the system has been assembled with the prime intention of being operated by people who just need to press the appropiate button when the time arises. No need with this system to spend hours programming Ableton for tracks and lighting etc. The worship band just get up there and play with what they have. GREAT

I am impressed by their emphasis on simplicity and quality. They're not afraid to spend some serious dime where it counts, but they win in the end since they're not having to continually upgrade or fix things.

If you ever get a chance to come to the uk, you will see how almost all churches have a single camera and a couple mics, if you can, come to Cambridge, there are some really ancient buildings there. St Catharine’S college Cambridge is the chapel where I run the tech for special services. I think it would be an eye opener into church of england and more general Anglicanism. OLEM is the Catholic Church that serves most of Cambridge which has some slightly more advanced tech. At certain times in the year, Kings college chapel has some incredible tech. P.S. we have an organ, a like almost all churches in the uk.

Electrostatic discharge?! It’s so good to have some sort of idea what causes this issue! We have a campus that runs into the same issue with HDMI over Ethernet and I was so dumbfounded how it could be caused by people sitting and standing. The cables are run in the ceiling about 15 ft away from people but a group of 4 teenagers could stand up and down to make the screen blink. So weird

I have a friend that runs sound in another church and they had a similar problem. They switched from cat 5 to cat 6 cables and it seems to have cured the problem.

Thanks for sharing this! I feel like it's rare to see the tech solutions of small to medium-sized churches, where simplicity and functionality are the focus. This is one of the first videos about church tech that I watched and thought, "okay, we could do that at our church". Most church tech seems really out of reach, financially. I also really appreciate their focus on volunteers and trying to reduce the barrier of entry for people who want to serve in production.

Overall, I really love this Tech Tour series! Thanks Jake! A magazine I used to subscribe to used to only present large, very expensive church installs. Seeing as how most churches are less than 200 members, this is a great presentation of what that size of church uses and the costs associated with it. Thanks again!

Thanks so much for this. Spot on about the transitions between sung and spoken word - for us these transitions (all those mutings and un-mutings!) are where so many of the sound issues crop up on Sunday mornings. (We're in a evangelical Church of England church; there has been a church on the site for at least 700 years; the earliest "church tech" we know of in our case was a barrel organ that they were using by 1803 - long since replaced!)

Hi Jeff - Only certain configurations of Shure’s top-of-the-line Axient systems can change frequencies of both the transmitter and the receiver "on the fly” - Not the Shure ULXD.

Great Channel & Great Series. I actively look forward to this series. Next time you're in NC would love to give a tech tour of our church. We are a small 160- 200 people Sunday Morning church in the foothills of the mountains that has decided to be intentional about our worship set up. I just installed a new Allen & Heath SQ5, ab168 expander, Dante card, and full Shure in-ear monitor system. Over the next 5 month's (or when God provides) we plan to trade the electric drums for an acoustic kit, and install actual stage lighting (and remove the old outdoor style spotlights currently in use). This past Sunday was the 1st use of the new SQ5 and wow, that thing is amazing!. Love the channel, keep it up!

Great to see all of the thought put into everything. The only thing I would strongly disagree with would be the use of Optoma X600 projectors. Our church uses the same projectors. And while they are advertised as 6000 lumens, they are only 1 chip DLP so when displaying anything with color on the projector, it is only displaying around 1,100 lumens

Respectfully, i think they are mistaken about the frequency diversity and on-the-fly channel switching of the ULXD gear. In the video, Jeff said “If there is a problem with the frequency, they can switch the unit and the pack, at the same time, on the fly, to a different frequency.” I don’t believe that the Shure ULXD series supports this functionality. On-the-fly frequency hopping of a single transmitter and receiver pair is a feature of the Shure Axient ADX series gear, which is much more expensive. The closest thing that the ULXD gear can do is “Bodypack frequency diversity” where you have two body packs on a single person, one on freq A, and the other on freq B. On the other end you have two receivers, one tuned to freq A and the other on freq B. The two receivers can work together to monitor the two separate signals, and route the best one to a single audio output. You kinda-sorta have the functionality that was described in the video, but it requires two transmitters and two receivers for each audio source.

Do keep that center linearray speaker when switching to stereo. When my church switched to linearray stereo, the center disappered, and the spread is not funny. A 90 feet wide drumkit sounds ridiculous...! Our stage is wider than yours, but still consider keeping a summed mono speaker for better vocals, especially speakers/presenters/prachers. God bless.

Regarding the Churchfront narrator's statement that Shure ULXD is “pretty much” the top of the line: No! ULXD is not “pretty much” Shure’s top of the line. Axient Digital is Shure’s top of the line, and when fully-configured, can cost around $20,000 for 4 wireless microphones.

Hey brother, any chance you could make a video on tv screens vs projectors? Pros and cons... I’m helping a church in Argentina update their technology and get more use of out it. And I need help on a few things... I haven’t seen much info out there on this subject. I’m sure there’s probably a rule of thumb to consider screen size according to the room, but I can’t find anything that goes straight to the point. Thanks for all your doing! It’s a huge blessing! Specially when other countries aren’t into technology much and one is trying to help them out.

Dacast for $250 /yr ? hmm that's cheap.. but I bet it has limited storage and bandwidth... how's that working for them? I've known Dacast for a long time.. it's like a prepaid service... or what I call pay as you go thing.. Could you explain a little bit further or ask them more in details about it Jake?.. Cause the best solution I have in mind right now and the best value I can recommend for churches looking into livestreaming is the Livestream/Vimeo Premium. It's $75 a month but you get a lot... no calculation of concurrent views, how many attendees, how long will you stream, things like that etc. The livestream/Vimeo Premium has unlimited Bandwidth, free stock footage (tons of footage) before they gave unlimited storage as well, but now I think it is up to 7 TB?.. don't quote me on that. =) So just wondering what's their take on DaCast.
@shelbyhanneman
@shelbyhanneman 4 года назад
I am guessing that its working for them because of the limited number of people watching the services. Like they said in the video they don't promote the livestreams and they didn't mention anything about streaming to facebook. My assumption is that they are saving a few hundred bucks a year by using Dacast, rather than paying for features and benefits they don't really need?

‘O dry bones, hear the word of the Lord! Thus says the Lord God to these bones: “Surely I will cause breath to enter into you, and you shall live. I will put sinews on you and bring flesh upon you, cover you with skin and put breath in you; and you shall live. Then you shall know that I am the Lord.” ’ ”‘Thus says the Lord God: “Come from the four winds, O breath, and breathe on these slain, that they may live.” ‘Thus says the Lord God: “Behold, O My people, I will open your graves and cause you to come up from your graves, and bring you into the land of Israel. Then you shall know that I am the Lord, when I have opened your graves, O My people, and brought you up from your graves. I will put My Spirit in you, and you shall live, and I will place you in your own land. Then you shall know that I, the Lord, have spoken it and performed it,” says the Lord.’ ” ‘Thus says the Lord God: “Surely I will take the children of Israel from among the nations, wherever they have gone, and will gather them from every side and bring them into their own land; and I will make them one nation in the land, on the mountains of Israel; and one king shall be king over them all; they shall no longer be two nations, nor shall they ever be divided into two kingdoms again. They shall not defile themselves anymore with their idols, nor with their detestable things, nor with any of their transgressions; but I will deliver them from all their dwelling places in which they have sinned, and will cleanse them. Then they shall be My people, and I will be their God. “David My servant shall be king over them, and they shall all have one shepherd; they shall also walk in My judgments and observe My statutes, and do them. Then they shall dwell in the land that I have given to Jacob My servant, where your fathers dwelt; and they shall dwell there, they, their children, and their children’s children, forever; and My servant David shall be their prince forever. Moreover I will make a covenant of peace with them, and it shall be an everlasting covenant with them; I will establish them and multiply them, and I will set My sanctuary in their midst forevermore. My tabernacle also shall be with them; indeed I will be their God, and they shall be My people. The nations also will know that I, the Lord, sanctify Israel, when My sanctuary is in their midst forevermore.” ’ ”Listen carefully to Me, and eat what is good, And let your soul delight itself in abundance. Incline your ear, and come to Me. Hear, and your soul shall live; And I will make an everlasting covenant with you- The sure mercies of David. Indeed I have given him as a witness to the people, A leader and commander for the people. Surely you shall call a nation you do not know, And nations who do not know you shall run to you, Because of the Lord your God, And the Holy One of Israel; For He has glorified you.” Seek the Lord while He may be found, Call upon Him while He is near. Let the wicked forsake his way, And the unrighteous man his thoughts; Let him return to the Lord, And He will have mercy on him; And to our God, For He will abundantly pardon. “For My thoughts are not your thoughts, Nor are your ways My ways,” says the Lord. “For as the heavens are higher than the earth, So are My ways higher than your ways, And My thoughts than your thoughts. “For as the rain comes down, and the snow from heaven, And do not return there, But water the earth, And make it bring forth and bud, That it may give seed to the sower And bread to the eater, So shall My word be that goes forth from My mouth; It shall not return to Me void, But it shall accomplish what I please, And it shall prosper in the thing for which I sent it. “For you shall go out with joy, And be led out with peace; The mountains and the hills Shall break forth into singing before you, And all the trees of the field shall clap their hands. Instead of the thorn shall come up the cypress tree, And instead of the brier shall come up the myrtle tree; And it shall be to the Lord for a name, For an everlasting sign that shall not be cut off.”So God, who knows the heart, acknowledged them by giving them the Holy Spirit, just as He did to us, and made no distinction between us and them, purifying their hearts by faith. Now therefore, why do you test God by putting a yoke on the neck of the disciples which neither our fathers nor we were able to bear? But we believe that through the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ we shall be saved in the same manner as they.” Then all the multitude kept silent and listened to Barnabas and Paul declaring how many miracles and wonders God had worked through them among the Gentiles. And after they had become silent, James answered, saying, “Men and brethren, listen to me: Simon has declared how God at the first visited the Gentiles to take out of them a people for His name. And with this the words of the prophets agree, just as it is written: ‘After this I will return And will rebuild the tabernacle of David, which has fallen down; I will rebuild its ruins, And I will set it up; So that the rest of mankind may seek the Lord, Even all the Gentiles who are called by My name, Says the Lord who does all these things.’ “Known to God from eternity are all His works.The Lord also shall save the tents of Judah first, that the glory of the house of David and the glory of the inhabitants of Jerusalem do not magnify themselves against Judah. In that day shall the Lord defend the inhabitants of Jerusalem; and he that is feeble among them at that day shall be as David; and the house of David shall be as God, as the angel of the Lord before them. And it shall come to pass in that day, that I will seek to destroy all the nations that come against Jerusalem. And I will pour upon the house of David, and upon the inhabitants of Jerusalem, the spirit of grace and of supplications: and they shall look upon me whom they have pierced, and they shall mourn for him, as one mourneth for his only son, and shall be in bitterness for him, as one that is in bitterness for his firstborn. In that day shall there be a great mourning in Jerusalem, as the mourning of Hadadrimmon in the valley of Megiddon. And the land shall mourn, every family apart; the family of the house of David apart, and their wives apart; the family of the house of Nathan apart, and their wives apart; The family of the house of Levi apart, and their wives apart; the family of Shimei apart, and their wives apart; All the families that remain, every family apart, and their wives apart.In that day there shall be a fountain opened to the house of David and to the inhabitants of Jerusalem for sin and for uncleanness. And it shall come to pass in that day, saith the Lord of hosts, that I will cut off the names of the idols out of the land, and they shall no more be remembered: and also I will cause the prophets and the unclean spirit to pass out of the land. And it shall come to pass, that when any shall yet prophesy, then his father and his mother that begat him shall say unto him, Thou shalt not live; for thou speakest lies in the name of the Lord: and his father and his mother that begat him shall thrust him through when he prophesieth. And it shall come to pass in that day, that the prophets shall be ashamed every one of his vision, when he hath prophesied; neither shall they wear a rough garment to deceive: But he shall say, I am no prophet, I am an husbandman; for man taught me to keep cattle from my youth. And one shall say unto him, What are these wounds in thine hands? Then he shall answer, Those with which I was wounded in the house of my friends. Awake, O sword, against my shepherd, and against the man that is my fellow, saith the Lord of hosts: smite the shepherd, and the sheep shall be scattered: and I will turn mine hand upon the little ones. And it shall come to pass, that in all the land, saith the Lord, two parts therein shall be cut off and die; but the third shall be left therein. And I will bring the third part through the fire, and will refine them as silver is refined, and will try them as gold is tried: they shall call on my name, and I will hear them: I will say, It is my people: and they shall say, The Lord is my God.
