Jared Letos joker has tattoos that basically say “I’m insane” and he wears metal teeth, and drives a super car. Goes to clubs, and wears jewelry. None of those traits relate to the actual joker. #longliveheath
@@roxyfoxyyy7 that's not Jared letos take on the joker. It was the bad writers take on the joker. I believe if it wasn't for the bad writers he'd be a good joker. I don't care how famous the actor may be. Everything goes the way the producers and directors wants it to go. Actors have almost no say so in the matter.
The main problem with the "Squad" Joker is that he kept trying to rescue Harley. One of the main points of Joker/Harley's disfunctional relationship is that Harley will do *anything* for Joker...and Joker will do *nothing* for her, unless it happens to be something he's doing (usually, Bat related) and she's "on the way."
Joker is a passionate person. Joker being passionate for Harley does not ruin his character. Its a change from the comics, but those don't have to be bad and the comics themselves change over time in each retelling. This isn't the Heath Ledger version of the Joker, its a Joker more like the Jack Nicholson Joker who is capable of having a gang, not killing all of them without reason because Chaos... The Joker/Harley relationship from the comics and TV series always left a bad taste in my mouth as too much. In a lot of ways Heath Ledgers Joker is great in a one shot movie, but who in their right mind would choose to work with/for that Joker? Leto is building a Joker that is unpredictable, but capable of building long term alliances.
I just feel so sorry for Jared Leto, it's like you did a HUGE homework assignment the you put so much time and effort and then for some reason the teacher says she didn't need it anymore
Urg that happened to me before! I had a geography project due, we had like 6weeks to do, I spent ages on it, finally the day had came to show our projects and it turned out we was getting a new geography teacher, all that hard work and no one ever got to show if. A few days after that I saw our class projects in the bin. (This happened like a year ago) I was so pissed.
Leto's joker was so fucking cringy lmao Not just the acting, but the look altogether. Joker having a fucking silver grill was enough to make me regret spending money on the ticket to go see Suicide Squad.
Cass Ott that’s fair. But ledger is really the only messy looking joker. Leto just looks so much cleaner than others because he’s shirtless half the time and it makes his pale skin too bright and noticeable and his hair was a much brighter green too
J- Rich although he did sign the contract jared said he felt tricked into playing the joker, read some interviews and news on it. Some people however twisted what he said and claim that jared swore at WB for how suicide squad turned out. But tht was false he swore at WB because of a part that said jared cant fo mountain climbing which he than swore at. Plus jared doesnt event watch his own movies
i CABAL i 16 year old girl here, who went to go see it in the cinema with her teenage girl group of friends... I LOVED nothing, absolutely nothing about the movie. Grew up with the intriguing psycho Joker from cartoon dc tv shows, this was 7/10 as disappointing as DCEU's Lex Luther
@@Quoteunquot3 While Ledger's and Phoenix's Joker were a representation of Nihilism and the embracement of the psychological "shadow", Leto's Joker looked just like some stupid gangster that lost his mind-- he labeled himself, wearing jewelry and tattoos-- the complete opposite of Joker's Nihilism.
@@Pan8oy What does nihilism even have to do with this? You're saying clowns are the opposite of nihilism? I don't get why people think it's enough to insert the word "nihilism" in a text to make it seem "deep".
This version of the Joker seemed forced and wooden. My god, they actually had "Damaged" tattooed on his forehead. At least we didn't find out the Joker's mom's name was Martha.
The damaged tattoo referenced his knocked out teeth in the comics oracle got back at him and broke his teeth it actually made him all depressed and angry at the thought of his smile being damaged but in this version it was Batman
@@mikel5163 Well to be fair, he didn't have much to work with. He played the role of over exaggerated, obnoxious, wannabe edgelord joker, as what the movie intreperted it to be, quite well. Still, i doubt that he would've been close Ledger and Phoenix even given a proper script
I loved Jared Leto's Joker and I didn't think Suicide Squad was a bad movie at all. I'm not sure why it got so many terrible reviews. It was way better than Thor 2 or Batman vs. Superman, or even Avengers 2. I saw Suicide Squad as an introduction to those characters for people who don't read comic books. Nicholson was horrible as the Joker, Ledger was awesome but lacked the sense of whimsy the Joker often has, while I thought Leto got the mix right. With the Joker, you can never really ask, 'to what end?' because the 'end' makes sense only in his insane mind. I saw this movie as a jumping off point for the Joker in future films with Batman or one featuring a more in-depth story about the Joker and Harley Quinn's relationship- even a second Suicide Squad. I think a lot of the problem was in the advertising. The Joker is not one of the main characters in Suicide Squad, so I did not expect to see much of him in it, while all of the advertising focused very heavily on the Joker, so by the time you see the film almost all of his scenes had already been shown in the trailers. Had they made it clear that the Joker was to have a smaller role viewers would have known it going in and might not have been as disappointed.
Heath Ledger's Joker was very dark, cunning, and anarchic. Jack Nicholson's Joker was whimsical, psychotic, and energetic. Jared Ledo's Joker was gangster, unstable, and cynical.
Exactly. Jared Leto's interptretation of the Joker is an unstable, megomaniac who will do whatever to takes to get his way. He IS a force a nature: The nature of impulse, and impatience. ALL of his scenes from the movie exemplify this: He tries to free Harley Quinn 3 times, and succeeds on the third try. Each time he barely thinks things through. He impulsively kills a gangbanger after impulsively offering Harley Quinn to him. When the Joker crashes, he impulsively swims away and leaves Harley behind, only to regret this later. This version of Joker is very well defined and if we get an extended edition, hopefully this will become more clear to the general public.
You're wrong. The beautiful thing about the Joker is that there are multiple versions/interpretations of him. So while you may prefer one over the other, that doesn't make one truly better then the other.
All the Jokers are great in their own way. All these videos compairing them needs to stop. All actor did the Joker in their own fashion great. Leto's is my new fave.
Just wanted to point out the club scene. The tattooed guy makes a comment about Harley, we see Joker make a face (along with a weird editing visual cue), and then Joker offers Harley to the man. It was clear to me, that the joker, for whatever reason, was irked by the comment, and put the man in a no win situation. He takes Harley, it shows he is willing to take another man's woman, he refuses her (as he does) he is insulting the Jones's generosity. A no win situation like that was very Joker esque. At least to me.
ohh let me try tattoo man (looks at harley) "your a lucky man, you got a bad b%*@h" (weird scene thing) (joker points at harley) "all she is, the fire in my woods, the itch in my crotch, I give you the one, the only infamous HARLEY QUINN" (Her dancing) (joker whistles) harley "puddin" joker "come to daddy, now,you are my gift to this...handsome Hunka, Hunka, you work for him now" (she sits on tattoo guys lap comments something, joker looks jealous) (tattoo man looks at him) "hey i don't want no beef" joker "ahh you want no beef? you want no beef?" harley "what you don't like me fine I'll take my business somewhere else then" tattoo man "nah joker that's your girl" joker "haha that's right" tattoo "yo j, J!" (BANG) and scene thank you
Wonder woman and Batman movies have to be Blockbusters to keep this awful franchise alive!cant believe how much warner bros dropped overall in fan service and the producers throw everything in every movie but just to say "Theres your fav character and what they do!".
His problem was he acted like he did amazing before the movie was released He saw what Heath ledger did and thought it would be easy then Phoenix came along and kicked the sh*t out of his version of joker and now he is sulking when he tried to cancel Joker
joker had 4 minutes of screen time nothing to do with the main plot yet still being compared to heath who had basically the entire movie surrounding him and obviously had much much more screentime so we can't just simply say leto was the worst when there was barley anything to judge off of and he wasn't the main focus
Well if we just compare their introduction scenes. Ledger was way more charismatic and funny. It just took the pencil trick and he had us. While Leto seemed just weird, he wasn't really scary to me, I didn't like how sexual he was, wasn't really funny or clever, he was just.."Meh". Of course deleted scenes could change my mind but until then I'm sticking to my guns.
I agree, they marketed wrong, made it look like he was the big next coming. I thought his portrayal had alot of promise but was wasted on this overhyped mess...really disappointed almost feel robbed of what could have been a really good performance...
+Aiden Pierce Leto had more relation to this Joker. stop calling the Nolan version because it isn't even canon and the Joker in that adaption had ZERO human relationships. last time I checked, that was the entire point of acting. not taking away from Ledger(GREAT for a movie, TERRIBLE for a comic.)
I never seen the movie. Butt i hate the fact that he has a "damaged" tatto on his forhead. Like some middle schooled emo teenage girl that draws fake tattos on their arms
I'm tired of this "Leto didn't get enough screen time to judge" cop out. Seeing more of this version wouldn't change opinions, it would only reinforce them. Ledger sold everybody within his first two minutes of screen time. Hell, if all we had ever seen of his Joker was the pencil scene, people wouldn't be saying "I dunno, he didn't get enough screen time to judge." They'd be saying "Joker was fucking awesome! Why didn't he get more screen time??"
Heath Ledger I think is the worst Joker ever because he works like a villain but not as a Joker. The Joker has to be 50% mad and 50% funny and charismatic and Nolan made him 100% crazy and Leto made him about 80% crazy but he still felt like the Joker and Ledger didn't.
As good as Ledgers preformance is he is not the Joker..he is just some lunatic that puts make-up,not funny, not charismatic at all. Honestly can you imagine Ledgers Joker having a relationship with Harley? I cant. That is to say Im not defending Letos Joker as i did not watch the movie but imo he looks more like the Joker than Ledger.
Jane Ross Lmao, This joker is a stereotypical mafia leader. The joker is supposed to be a creepy boi, who doesn’t care about money, who doesn’t care about women, he just cares about causing chaos.
@@lukasfotto328 absolutely, this is the most rubbish Joker. Doesn't resemble the character, and doesn't resemble anything interesting on its own merits either, even if it was meant to be an original character. The film definitely let the role down and you can see he's trying to make something of what he was given, but it's clear nobody knew what they were doing, and there's still no saving this interpretation whatever cut of the film you have access to. Then again that goes for the whole film in general. Such bad versions of so many of those characters...
This comment and replies here just confirms exactly what the video as saying. Leto did a great job and joker was good but they didn't use joker the best way they could so it makes it seems like joker was not played well but it has to do with the writers or producers
@I don’t like Lgbt people "guys, guys, i hate every popular thing and won't give a reason, aren't i cool? U girls better be quick because i am so hot and cool that i might suck my own dick"
Liam Galinato all she did was flash her ass and spit one liners not to mention her and boomerang dint even feel they belong in the movie like what exactly made them so elite to be part of the most bad people squad? , insanity shouldnt = super power , what should the next big super hero/antihero be the crazy cat lady everyone talks about flinging cats as combat weapons? lol
Even if they were making him the GANGSTER version of the Joker, this isn’t even an actual gangster. If they wanted to make him a gangster while still keeping him like the Joker, they should have given him a dark purple suit, and make him act like Tommy from Goodfellas. David Ayer made him what people THINK gangsters are like, but real gangsters are intimidating, well dressed men who can get in your head, and Jared Leto would’ve been GREAT at that role, whereas this Joker just seems like somebody who’s trying to be in an Eminem music video
It was confusing. It's like The Joker knew of the pop-culture interpretation of The Joker, and tried to copy that, without understanding that it's just a crude xerox that barely captures any detail. "Oh, he's pointlessly insane, and loves laughter and smiles and whatnot." He's unrealistic and flat, as a character. Heath Ledger made him a believable character.
Viktor Rebake I know right I can't see how people love this joker especially the guys cause I know the women just want to see Leto shirtless. I had to watch the dark knight after watching Leto to get that bad taste in my mouth
Goerge Sefer meh that's the audience they were clearly aiming for with both Harley and Joker especially their relationship, which was way off from the comics and as its own thing was unrealistic
we love this joker cuz its something new its diff then the others these actors dosent have to play joker the same way as the others do want ull haters go deep in a room wit nothing on no sound just think of it as a crazy house with no windows hese actors play joker the way they see it not the way ull see it sorry but ull dint have to go deep into that carter like they did
Danielle Merriweather just because "it's something new" doesn't make it a good interpretation. Joker has changed a lot over the years with Mark hamill, Jack Nicholson, Troy baker, and Heath ledger they were all different interpretations but they all kept the same spirit of the joker. Letos interpretation is too modernized and he doesn't feel as natural in his acting. Heath ledger spent days and hours writing in his notebook learning how to be crazy he internalized that behavior. Leto just felt like someone working at a haunted house just kinda acting random because that's his job
Adam Pezley557 AUTOMOOSE it’s literally the way the joker is supposed to act, he is supposed to act like a crazy lunatic. Sure Jared’s joker was more of a lunatic but keep in mind that there was ALL kinds of jokers for example. Heath ledgers has a drunk dad that carved a smile into his face. Jared’s Joker is the version where he falls into the acid. The joker isn’t necessarily ONE version of joker they are all different so they will all act different.
Had Leto just kept it simple and understood the character a bit more, he would have given us a better Joker. Pity, because he's a good actor and he transforms into every role he has played. After seeing Joaquin Phoenix's Joker, I think Leto should just give it up. Supposedly there is a Joker and Harley movie coming out too. Blah!! cancel it.
U cannot compare a stand alone movie the history of joker compare to this so many characters of a movie..if phoenix will put into this movie i dont think what the outcome looks like...
idiots these are two completely different worlds heath's joker was in a realistic world as the director wanted, Leto's was in a world where supernatural exists no correlation between these two jokers you cant compare them
@@silversmoke4159 that's makes no sense what do ever why would he risk his own life he that was true he has no reason to than he could be sent someone else
Not fair to compare Ledger's Joker to Leto's for 3 reasons. 1. Heath's Joker was the big bad of TDK. He was the driving force behind the plot. 2. Ledger's Joker had almost 3x more screen time. 3. Ledger's Joker, like Bale's Batman, is a more comic book inspired character, than adapted. Look at the DCEU, characters are very much adapted from the comics. Some have the odd change but mostly they're the same. I liked what I saw from Leto, except a few things. Like his snorting when he'd look at that dude. Or his blank stare at times. Joker is supposed to be very emotive. Ultimately, it's really not fair to say you hated a character that had fuck all to do with the plot and fuck all screen time. If he's in the Batfleck solo movie, and he's the main villain, then we can decide if he's good or bad.
Definitely. He was not given enough screen time to properly portray his version of the character, especially after Ledger's phenomenal performance. To be hyped up in all the trailers, posters and other marketing just to have less than 10 minutes of screen time, doesn't seem fair.
He tried way to hard. He should've just been his own interpretation of the Joker. IMO the joker from dead end was better😂 (like if u get that reference)
Leto's Joker had roughly the same amount of time as Darth Vader had in Star Wars A New Hope, the character of Darth Vader made a massive impact on audiences within those few mins, whereas Leto's Joker made no impact apart from audiences being confused as to why the character had no, well "character". This version of the Joker gets so much wrong about the fundamentals of what "The Joker" is that I really hope he's ret-conned out of the DCEU and maybe we'll get an actual Joker and not this Gugaloo wannabe Edgey TryHard.
@@jessejive117 It's a continuation of SwirlyJoe's remark that changed everything the character that Leto played was, I just added that if he's changing so many things might as well also change Leto for an actor that cared more about his portrayal of the character he's supposed to be playing rather than doing all his bullshit method acting pranks. In other words, Leto is as much to blame and should've been changed.
@@jessejive117 regardless of whatever you want to add to justify his "method acting" bullshit, he is clearly not a very beloved Joker and if that means he ain't returning, I'm happy with that.
I'm sorry but Leto's Joker has a laugh that sounds like a creaky door. He was never a proper fit for Joker although he is a fantastic actor all the same.
I think that if the Joker had been the villain, the movie would've been way better. I didn't mind Letos Joker, but I agree with you, they just didn't know what to do with him, and he doesn't stand out like other versions have
Dude think about that statement. I respect your opinion but the entire Suicide Squad against the Joker? Joker wouldn't last 10 seconds against them. Okay Okay so how would he beat Enchantress by herself. What about Diablo? Deadshot?...etc. Joker is an interesting character but lets not over rate him. Interesting and not powerful, so no he shouldn't be the major villain unless they're trying to kill him off.
+I'mJustCam now i wont lie. The character itself the personality and motives were all over the place. We didnt get enough time to know the character. But the acting for the character was good. None of it was jareds fault
I feel kinda bad for Leto... He's such an incredible actor. His roles in Requiem for a dream, Dallas buyers club etc. were perfection. I don't know if he would have been as good as Joaquin in the new movie, but they really made him look like a fool in Suicide Squad, what a waste of talent...
Mister Leto fell for it, or was too stew-peed or too lazy to earn his money elsewhere (burgerflip, car-wash). It literally got him destroyed. Career off choices.
Agreed, Leto did a great job, but the character was poorly written. He didn't seem very evil, or very crazy. He was just some random mobster, who happened to look a bit like a clown, and his only motivation throughout the movie was to save his girlfriend, whom he genuinely seemed to care about, from legitimate danger. Does that really sound like a force of pure chaos incarnate? Cause that's the kind of Joker I want to see.
I feel likewise. I'd like to see more of this joker in a batman movie, where he can be featured. I hope they don't replace him as a knee jerk reaction.
Watching the DCEU is like watching a car crash in slow motion. You already know what the end result is going to be, but there's nothing you can do about it. You can hope that something can be salvaged from the wreckage.
Let's be real... Heath Ledger had the best written dialogue for a live action Joker. Give those lines to a decent enough actor and they would have killed it just as much. LIKE JARED LETO! ;)
@@CallumDMD Nope. Heath trained for the role, he put blood and sweat into it and made Joker his own. That's why it can't be topped. It's one of a kind.
@@MisterSandmanAU You can say that about every interpretation. I totally agree with Mr Sunday, he wasn't a great Joker in this film, but Heath Ledger wouldn't have been either.
DC should stop trying to compete with Marvel with creating a cinematic universe, and instead just concentrate on making one good film and then go on from there.
As someone who loves both dc and marvel. The dc movies do not feel as if they are trying to compete at all, the term is cannibalization. someone comes up with an innovative formula, like Moba games for example. Then a bunch of other developers make their own take, some worse, some better. DC isn't trying to perfectly mimic marvel, they are doing their own thing. They also aren't rushing the cinematic universe contrary to popular belief, because the pacing of multiple previous instances of DC have gone at this pace in the past |: Just never on the big screen.
+Captain Halo They are trying to compete with Marvel regarding cinematic universes though. They are not copying Marvel but it's stupid to say that the massive amounts of world building in the last two films are not related to DC trying to catch up.
The funniest part is that everyone who says Leto was great either have no reason or simply say "he acted like the joker", and give no expansion upon that statement or any other reasoning. And for the record, he did not act like the Joker. He acted like he was trying for a part in Boyz n the Hood and accidentally showed up at the auditions for the role of the Joker in Suicide Squad.
I want the solo Ben Affleck Batman movie to focus on the dynamic between The Joker & Batman, but with a unique twist that differs it from The Dark Knight...
I liked this jokers style in this movie. and yeah his script wasn't the best, but I think Ben affleck can change this around. I'm just really interested in this joker and those 10 mins just was not enough
I think we had enough of Batman v Joker movies. Would be cool to see a lot of bad guys team up against Batman, like Penguin, Joker..., you know. The classics.
fucker mcfuckface it’s partially his fault considering he only did method acting cus he wanted to have a headline on buzzfeed, Heath did it to act better, that’s the difference
The best? We still don't know (maybe). Better? Definitely. Leto's joker was insane, the clown prince (not an anarchist) of crime. I do like Ledger's Joker, but he wasn't the best. If we compare Ledger's and Leto's experience behind the cameras, and their acting skills, we would have an obvious winner: Jared.
+Jokergrin Rebirth I don't know about all that. Jared is a wonderful actor, but the stress to perfect the character wasn't one of the driving forces that literally killed Jared, as was the case with Heath.
I thought the joker was fine but the movie felt so cheesy, disjointed and like it lacked an actual story line. I don't think the critics were wrong about this movie not delivering.
True. And i think they should have had a storyline where they went on a mission not dealing with supernatural entities. Coz seriously how would they be blamed for anything going wrong in that scenario? everyone in the city saw what was happening. A more covert mission would have been more appropriate where if something did go wrong and it came to light they would be blamed, would make sense.
+azraelblame exactly! I don't feel like there was a story line or anything and the whole "explanation" was thrown in as an afterthought. The plot didn't really flow the only thing that saved this movie for me was the acting (smith Robbie Davis)
the joker with all these accessories didnt make sense in the film because all the back story of the joker and how he became to be like that was deleted. the grills are because batman almost beat the joker to death knocking out all his front teeth, the tattoos have been seen in past comics on the joker, "the dragon" and the smile on his hand was so batman would never forget what he did to him as he couldnt smile the same ever again. if they had of added all of this back story it would of moulded the film and this version of the character in a much more favourable light
+Harper Productions I understand what they were going for, I just don't feel it was pulled off well. Felt too much like they were trying to reinvent the wheel and totally missed the mark. I was glad to hear initially that they had no intention of trying to mimic what Nolan did with Ledger, and I have alot of faith in Leto's acting. I just think the attempt to make The Joker feel more modern made him very un-Jokerish.
It's still fucking stupid. We see less than 15 minutes of Joker, just like Godzilla. Using a popular fictional character to gain traction for your near shitty film.
Kevin the Cow I see your point, the last action sequence was pretty cool. But I still stand by my point, Godzilla didn't even seem like the main character of the movie, and was used a pawn to attract a bigger audience to theaters.
+Not Spiderman Nicholson in 1989 R-rated Batman (check out his violent acts to putting a smile on his chick) and Heath Ledger's R-rated to PG-13 material in Dark Knight had an entire movie focused on them vs Batman. This movie put Joker/Harley with other villains (2 of which die) vs Enchantress and has lead to sub-Joker thoughts of Jarrod Leto!
The problem was that all that splurge and promotion was made around him for in the end cut out most of his scenes and worst than that was what they did to the scenes that remained in the film. The scenes in the film were the worst edited scenes that I ever saw, full of special effects to join the different parts of the footage. After that, they throw that disjointed scenes randomly to the film. David Ayer and his team were bastards!
His hair isn't even anything like Justin Bieber's you dumbass. Ledger's Joker had his hair slicked back meanwhile Justin Bieber had the Beatles haircut.
this comment speaks truth. idk if its jared's fault or the script he was given but this whole movie was just awful. infact, it was kinda a slap in the face. dude had like 10minutes of screentime too.
His design is based in many designs of the Joker in the comics: 66.media.tumblr.com/02c83902c54114c31f314d6584ddd36c/tumblr_obt7uazb0o1vajmnho1_540.jpg and the "ghetto teeth" are the grills he got after losing his teeth when Batman beated the shit out of him when he kidnapped/kill robin
So why is Ledger's performance critically acclaimed by movie critics, actors and fans yet no one gives a damn about Leto's?You know nothing about acting ability...leave that to people who do.
Bruce wayne Who knows, you? I'm a theater major in college, I think I know a thing or two. You work with what you get, and that's exactly what he did. Unfortunately, he got a shit script.
My thoughts on Leto's portrayal of The Joker is that the directors have no idea what the fuck they are doing. I don't mind the actor for the part, but they fucked it up. First of all he looks like a gangster, which is different and I have no problem with it, but if your trying to please the masses, you've already dug yourself a hole. Second of all he isn't even that crazy, The Joker I know would've beaten the man with a crowbar or stiletto knife in that club scene, aka been a lot more brutal. Third of all, the relationship between Harley and The Joker was absolute horse shit in this movie, its not a romance, its more of a super dysfunctional, ALMOST one sided relationship. Fourth, if he's crazy enough to tattoo every inch of his body and put a damaged tattoo on his forehead, why the hell does he have a clean hairstyle and dress normally. Surely he should look a lot scruffier (same clothes, but maybe a size too big, not properly put on and old and worn, plus his hair should be more
The directors are gonna make joker look diff this is 2016 an they don't have to look like that damn cartoon crap yeah he looks like a gangsta cuz he is one pplz are fucking judging em let em make there damn movies if u don't like how directors make there's movies then don't go watch there damn movies
+Danielle Merriweather that's great advice... seeing as they have gotten pretty low ratings over the movies they've released and a crap ton of hate on actor choices for characters and the actions of the characters in movies, if everyone were to do as you just said, their whole film studio would be broke and they'd have to stop producing DC related films, which would mean they no longer have the opportunity to listen to the fans' advice and improvement ideas, which if they don't listen to because they are arrogant AF, other directors can and learn from the previous mistakes.
I couldn't help thinking he was a Gucci joker, like if Gucci wanted to make a Halloween costume of the joker. He didn't strike me as a criminal or a person who hated society or had hate in his heart at all.
***** I don't really have an interest in guys so how can it be looks? I'm planning on looking into the comics actually, my dad's an avid reader and enjoyed this new Joker. I'll openly admit I wasn't really huge on DC comics beyond the animated series and the movies prior to this. So I do have a little background in it. And I'm not saying he's the best, he wasn't, we all know that. That spot goes to Ledger. I'm just saying he was good for the Joker he was portraying. And I personally found it pretty enjoyable, but lacking from there being so little of him. Hell, I haven't side-by-sided the screentime, but I've heard people saying he gets more screentime in Purple Lambrogini than in the movie...So there's really not enough to get a feel for him.
+jhamil maruhom Of course I'm gonna judge the Joker according to what I've seen in the movie, which includes the script, the bad editing, and his almost nonsensical role all throughout. Don't expect me to analyze things that weren't there. I'm not a psychic. And by the way, none of my statement says that Jared Leto's Joker was bad. I compared him to another character, and it's up to you to decide whether to take it positively or otherwise. It's all a matter of perspective.
Awesome video, agree with almost everything you said (although I rather enjoyed Jared Leto's Joker). The only thing I disagree with is the Ace Chemicals scene. You can really tell when Harleen drops herself into the chemicals that Joker was like "Lmao she's dead I'm outta here" But as he's walking away, he snarls in doubt, almost hating himself for actually having feelings for Harleen, and that's why he turns around and saves her. That's just what I think, idunno I'm pretty dumb sometimes though
Caboose I loved this Joker but not how they handled him. I loved that scene was because we saw a human side of Joker. But it's to early to see that side of Joker
My favorite parts of the movie were the scene you're talking about where we see that he hates the fact that he loves her and dives in for her and where the squad was sickened by diablos story about his family. Makes it hard to not get attached to the "bad guys".
problem with "critics" is that they are from kiddos like you, that scene is the HQ origin in New 52 era of DC comics, but hey it sucks when movies get close to comics roots , i hate that shit... *sarcasm*
To be honest this role isn't meant for him at all. He might be a hardworking actor but he is just not talented enough. He was just trying too hard it's so cringy.
@@jessejive117 it can almost be stated as a fact since so overwhelming majority is of the same opinion. When you compare Leto's performance to Ledger's and the one of Joaquin Phoenix, you get to realize just how out of depth he is in this role.
Besides poor directing and editing. Leto's joker failed because Leto has too much ego. His ego works for his music career and other characters he's played. A good Joker has no ego. And Joker definitely doesn't have Leto's ego.
No, terrible point. A movie is a culmination of a bunch of puzzle pieces being put together, now sometimes that can make a beautiful picture but sometimes one of the puzzle pieces is missing, or is the wrong piece for this puzzle. Jared Leto's Joker was (at least in my opinion) not well played, regardless of how many lines he had or what they were or how long he was in it. If one of the background "artistes" was running around in circles when he was supposed to be running away from an explosion, that would add to the negatives of a movie. Speaking as someone who has worked on movies I know that things need to run as a well oiled machine, every actor has to do their part and Jared Leto took this in the wrong direction I think.
No, that's not what Joker is all about. Joker is deep, classy, crazy, and yet has an element of truth to his madness. That's what Joker is. He's an entity, not just some random psycho clown.
I actually found Heath's scenes much scarier. It has something to do with slightly irritatingly long (in a good/bad mesh sort of way) score Hans Zimmer composed for his "Wanna know how I got these scars?" moments. And even then, is "scary and unpredictable" ALL it takes to be the Joker? The Joker, to me, is more nuanced than Suicide Squad would have you believe. Heath Ledger actually showed an understanding of the Joker's philosophy and psyche. He's a clown who wants to prove to Batman that the world can easily be as corrupted as he is. Leto's Joker just shows that the filmmakers understood "The Joker is a clown who kills people and is crazy. See? We understand the character!"
GGHHHH I absolutely loved this Joker, BUT HE NEEDED MORE TIME. I was personally very disappointed about how little screen time he got, ESPECIALLY AFTER FINDING OUT HOW MANY SCENES THEY JUST DECIDED TO CUT OUT.
he could ha e had more screen time yes.. however I think that was the PR people hyping him up. this was about Harley and the suicide squad. joker has been around for 75 or so years. he did a great job for what was provided, but this movie was not about him.
Feel bad for Leto, you can see the disappointment. I'm really hoping he comes back, he took this role very seriously and I honestly like him more than I liked Ledger. (Please don't threaten me or tell me to kill myself)
I feel bad for Leto as well, to be honest. Although I thought it was a terrible interpretation and terrible job in general. I do think he's talented enough to make a good Joker though.
+MizzReyRey he wasn't the Joker in this movie. Just seemed like someone dressed up as the Joker. And it's exactly how this dude explains in the video, not a fully realized or driven character. In some scenes he seems fucking ballistic, and then others a caring lover for Harley Quinn. When in reality the character never cares THAT much for Harley Quinn. He uses and abuses her to get what he needs and when he doesn't he just lets her go. I understand comic to movie adaptation and interpretation. But it just seemed so random and inconsistent throughout this movie his attraction and attention towards Harley. Ledger, which I find to be the perfect Joker as he did a different take on Joker, a far more sinister and scary take while also keeping it true to character by referencing The Killing Joke a bit, he has a more consistent way of doing what he did. He made plans, he went through with them, he wanted to play around with the bat and he wanted to show batman that "one bad day" can turn even the best of us into cold-hearted criminals, which is what the Joker in the killing joke attempted to do with Gordon. Jared, I personally did like. I just didn't like that he had no consistent character. He offers Harley to a gangster, then gets overly jealous and shoots him in the head, for what reason? No reason necessary, and he just begins driving like a madman, then leaves her to die, then he was actually looking for her endlessly? I am waiting until he has his real solo film against Batman to actually give out judgment. But what I got from this take on the Joker, is that he is all too human vs being just a force of nature, which is what Heath was. Jared gets a 7/10 for his Joker and how he made that awful script work. But.. I hope he gets more time.
MizzReyRey While Jack Nicholson's joker feels a little antiquated in this day and age, I would still place him miles above this particular interpretation. It just feels like all style (-and terrible style at that) and no substance. But that goes for the entire Suicide Squad movie, to be honest. I think I may have had marginally less trouble with this Joker if it wasn't for the ridiculous tattoos, the lack of eyebrows and the god-awful rims. Although that wouldn't change the fact that he just didn't strike me as a force to be reckoned with.
Imagine being jaret ledo - not only you are the worst joker in history, but also right before arguably the best joker in history came up, just to add more contrast and make you look even worse. That gotta hurt bro.
The thing about deadpool is that hes so quirky and wild with all his insults and fourth wall shenanigans that almost anything works for him. So long as you stick with the costume and characters, youre good. However with other comic book characters, any change can have drastic repercussions to how the audience takes it. Creating a comic book character that is universally loved is very improbable.
Worst Joker? Hell yeah! he was more of a modern day douche bag hipster wannabe thug and he only reminded me of wack rappers like Stitches and Riff Raff. Had the character at least behaved like Kakihara from Itchi The Killer then maybe i'd say he had potential, but his Joker came off as weak and boring.
To be fair though, spiderman in civil war had little screen time to judge his performance and people loved it,I can get the dissapointment, after all the hype he got a couple of scenes and didn't really stand out, hopefully his next appearance or the deleted scenes can leave a better impression
Heath Ledger's joker wouldn't have fit in with this universe anyways. He would have came up with this huge complicated plan to foil batman and Affleck would have just killed him....
Leto's joker needs to basically be a mob boss so his ass is protected from getting killed by batman. I mean let's face it, Affleck makes Bale's batman look like peter pan.
