As a Cards fan, I have some pretty fond memories haha ... that was some unbelievable clutch hitting, and less than stellar D from Cruz. Great series though
Randy Marsh He didn't kill two people you fuckin idiot. First off, it was never confirmed as to who was driving the boat. Also, 2/3 people aboard the boat, including Jose, were found with cocaine in their systems. Sadly, as much as I feel for the guy who chose not to do the drugs, there is an extremely strong chance that he knew and accepted the fact that the two other men were coked out, from then on its his choice over whether to get in the boat with them. Jose didn't kill anyone, they all just killed themselves.
It appears you're a cubs fan. thanks for not blaming bartman, that whole scenario really pisses me off. i think anyone else would have reached for that ball too in bartman's situation. I don't think alou had a play on that ball anyways.
Jamar Leonard Yes, heaven forbid you try to grab a free souvenir in a playoff game. Alou ruined this man's life (along with thousands of fans ruining his life). Many things to blame in Game 6, but not Steve.
Like I said it's not Bartman fault but I would trade a souvenir for an out in the playoffs any day. Even with 2 outs, we would have still blown this game
Pretty good list. I think you missed on 2 of them though: 1. I think the Mets worst moment was losing to the Cardinals in the 2006 NLCS. The Mets were heavy favorites. The last out of Beltran taking a called third strike with the bases loaded was far more devastating than Game 5 of the 2015 World Series. 2. For the Dodgers, I think it should have been Bobby Thomson's home run off of Ralph Branca. It was and still is an iconic moment. Honorable mention: Maybe the Astros loss against the Phillies in the 1980 NLCS surpasses their ALDS loss to the Royals. The Astros had a 5-run lead in the 8th inning with Nolan Ryan on the mound, and they lost in probably the best postseason series ever. Just my 2 cents.
I think that the 1988 NLCS was just as bad, if not worse for the Mets, As bad as the Thomson home run was, the 1952 World Series was a blown 3-2 lead, they were playing the Yankees who always beat then in the WS and they never won the Series and not a play-in series clincher, so that would be worse. I would argue too that the 1986 NLCS was just as bad for Houston.
Mets were truly beat in that series, that wasn't like they blew it, Wainwright's curve was really good (supposedly at the time the best in the game as Kershaw hadn't arrived on the scene yet).
@@wpreston86 The Shot happened with the Dodgers leading by 2 in the bottom of the 9th in the deciding game of a tiebreaker series... I think that's more devastating imo
@@mg-jf5ld I think this list had to do more with on-field stuff. Lyman Bostock bring shot and killed in 1978 in my opinion was much worse than Skaggs’ passing
Any Detroit tiger fan knows the worst moment was when Galaraga (sorry don't know how to spell his name) was throwing a perfect game and the batter hit an infield grounder and was called safe at first. Worst call in MLB history if you ask me. If you look at a video of it you can clearly see the runner was out.
Huge Tigers fan here. I care way more about losing championships than a blown call on a perfect game. The blown call sucked at the time, but it's way easier to get over that than a blown chance at a World Series
Michael Higer I mean it's not the first or last time we've blown a chance at the World Series. Very few pitchers every experience a no hitter. And for the call to have been so bad. That's just the worse.
princess Mo I'm not a Tigers fan but a huge baseball fan and I agree that should be in the video but Jim Joyce (first base umpire) admitted his mistake after the game. No reason to still be sour about it
SeñorTortas for the dodgers it would be Blowing the lead in the ninth of the 2017 World Series Or blowing the 4-0 lead going into the 7th in 2018 World Series or just losing back to back World Series
Bobby Thomson home run. That destroyed not only the dodgers but Ralph Branca. The Dodgers had a 13.5 game lead on the Giants but the giants came back and forced a three game playoff and came from behind in the last inning of the last game. Not to mention the giants were probably using a telescope and a buzzer to steal the catcher’s signs. Yeah, I would say that’s the worst loss in anyone’s franchise.
Alou wouldn't have caught that ball, no matter how much his ensuing tantrum might have led you to believe. He even admitted at one point that he wouldn't have. It really does piss me off that Cubs fans sent another Cubs fan into hiding. You're lying to yourself if you wouldn't have reached for that ball too.
Brannon H most cubs fans including me have kinda forgiven Bartman. he was just listening to the game with his headphones and saw a ball coming to him and caught it. anyone would have done the same
The Marlins one caught me by surprise and struck me right in the heart. It is true, and the despair felt by this community, this team, and his family that day and ever since is unknowable. Thank you.
As a Mets fan, I really think Beltran taking strike 3 was worse. I mean by that time in the series, I think we all knew deep down we were getting outplayed, and it was the Royals' time. Doesn't mean it didn't hurt, but Beltran looking still makes me tear up. Also, that 2006 team never got back to the playoffs. This Mets team still can win it all with the same players. Just my opinion though.
Honestly as a big Met's fan I wasn't upset that lost the World Series because I was surprised that they made it in that year, and it was the greatest feeling actually seeing them in a World Series for the first time in my lifetime. (I was only 1 when they played in 2000). 2006 was what hurt me the most because Beltran was one of my favorite players growing up.
Cards fan here. I really do feel bad for Texas, they've had some solid teams year after year but have just had some tough luck. If the Cardinals don't make it into the postseason it's likely that I'll be cheering on the Rangers. Best of luck to you guys.
Don't forget the whole team still had game 7 to redeem themselves but they couldn't. Nelson Cruz sucked harder on Freese's triple and he doesn't get much blame, I wish Red Sox fans had treated Buckner the same way.
yeah -- must have been real hard after just starting to watch the royals in october of 2014 to see them lose a world series. royals fans bandwagoned SOOOOOO hard that year, it was ridiculous.
probably would have chosen the end of the 2014 world series for the Royals. we were 90 feet away from tying the game, and the heartbreak of not coming through was pretty painful. winning it all in 2015 eased the pain, no doubt, but it was just heartbreaking at the time. nice video. love seeing all the old clips
Paul K ya know, as a UNC fan, i can relate exactly to what you said. we got our hearts shattered by Nova but came back the next year and won it all. the redemption is a really good feeling
I agree that the loss in 2014 was harder for Royals fans. Besides which the Yankees were beating everybody back when the clip they used occurred, late 1970s.
Paul K, still think they should've sent Alex Gordon. I'd give him at least a 50/50 chance of scoring on that play. With Bumgarner pitching what % chance did you give Perez to drive him in on the next at bat? 10%. That would've been the most epic finish ever to a World Series. Either tie it on an inside the park homer, or get thrown out at the plate to end a world series.
I thought after you guys beat my Mariners that year there was no way you were going to lose, of course taking into consideration what else had gone on in the city. Just seemed like they were the team of destiny that year. Was really shocked that AZ pulled it off.
I may not like the Yankees, but to me, Luis Gonzalez hitting that squibber past Mariano Rivera is the worst moment in Major League Baseball History, simply because of 9/11. After 9/11, it didn't matter how much you hated the Yankees, because you were rooting for New York City. To me, Luis Gonzalez is worse than Osama bin Laden.
This was the 1952 Series. The Dodgers never won a Series and blew a 3-2 lead to their rival, the Yankees. The Shot Heard 'Round the World was the third game of a three game playoff to see who would get into the Series. I thin they were closer in 1952, so I say 1952 was worse.
I'm a rangers fan. I have bad memories of game six of the world series :(. also I thought the yankees moment would be when Gonzalez hit a walk off single to win the world series for the diamondbacks
fullhousefrek well the moment they chose was when their rivals the red sox came back from a 0 games to 3 in the alcs. Its the first time a team ever came back from behing behind 3-0 and to make matterd worse was that theybwere arch rivals and they eventualy ein the world series
As a giants fan, while its easy to remember the championships from 2010, 2012, 2014, i still have a hard time dealing with that game 6 collapse vs the angels. I will never get over that one
How is that relevant to what he was saying? The Giants that year were a force to be reckoned with that came back from huge series deficits in the DS and CS. I don't think anyone was all that shocked to see the Tigers lose, we just all thought the Tigers would put up more of a fight.
I was just a little 8 year old boy wearing my Bonds jersey sitting in front of the tv with my parents hoping the Giants would close out game 7 and make me the proudest kid alive. And when the dust settled and the Angels were the World champions...saddest night in my young years ever. But later on my dad( Sep 26 1960-Dec 3 2010) promised me that the giants would win the World Series in another 8 years, and by the weirdest coiendence, they did win it all 8 years later.Still the weirdest yet happiest sports moment in my life.Go Giants
No way the choke job against the Royals in the 2015 ALDS was a worst moment for the Astros than Lidge giving up the bomb to Pujols in the 2005 NLCS. It might have mattered more because we went on to win that series but ask any Astros fan and that's the moment they would pick.
I would say Lidge giving up the walk off to Podsednik in game 2 of the WS was worse than the Pujols blast. The Astros had a real chance to steal home field in that game and useless Lidge gave up a homer to Chicago's worst hitter. That was deflating.
The worst moment hands down was the previous year, 2004. Astros up in the series 3-2 against the Cards in the NLCS and Edmonds hits a walk off bomb to take game 6. Astros lose game 7.
None of these are even close to the worst for the Astros. It's a tie between game 6 of the 1986 NLCS and game 5 of the 1980 NLCS. In both cases, Astros were 6 outs or less away from their 1st world series. (Because everyone knew Scott would win 1986 game 7.) I think 1980 was worse, giving up 5 runs in the 8th.
Really cool compilation. It would have been nice to have a bit more info on each moment so we can locate ourselves within history... I was lucky to be in two of those games and watched at least 10 more live on TV.
I would think that the Royals' worst moment would be Game 7 of the 2014 World Series. They have the tying run on 3rd after a terrible fielding error, a great batter at the plate, and he pops out to end the Series.
People are still mad about 1977. Watching the Yankees celebrate on our home field AFTER the heartbreak of the Chambliss homer? MUCH MUCH worse. Younger Royals fan don't hate the Yankees but the OLDER ones are STILL galvanized.
As a Boston Red Sox fan, 1986 was a really tough year. The high was the Davey Henderson homer of Dickie Moore that put the Red Sox into the World Series only to have Bill Buckner let that grounder go through his legs. I didn't sleep very well that night because I was too focused on why then-manager, John McNamara, never put Dave Stapleton in as a defensive replacement for Buckner. The way the Red Sox came back against the New York Yankees in the 2004 American League Championship Series after being just one game away from elimination at 0-3, becoming the only team in Major League Baseball history to do it made up for that debacle by Buckner and many other terrible times endured by this Boston Red Sox fan.
That 2011 World Series was bigger heartbreak for me that the death of a loved one. I'll never be over that. Not even if they eventually win one. A strike away...TWICE!!! They had the plastic up in the locker room and the champagne chilling on ice.....So close.
I believe the worst baseball moment ever for the Royals was in 1977 when they lost the deciding 5th game of the ALCS in KC against the Yankees when they had a 3-1 lead going into the 8th. They gave up 1 run in the 8th, then 3 runs in the 9th and lost 5-3. That season they won 102 games, more than any other Royals team. One of those great teams in the 70s or early 80s should have won a World Series and 1977 was their best shot, so I think that was the most devastating when you look back at it (plus Royals vs Yankees was the best rivalry going in baseball during that time). I think they put the 1976 ALCS walk off loss in New York on there because it was dramatic, but even if they win that game they would have had no chance against the Reds that year. Sure the 2014 WS game 7 loss was heartbreaking, but really once Bumgarner came into that game with a lead, the Royals didn't have much of a shot. If Blanco doesn't completely botch Alex Gordon's 9th inning hit in CF, it would have been just a single and the ending would have been less dramatic.
In fairness game 3's 1-0 win could have gone either way, so they weren't totally out of it (that was the real turning point, because Verlander pitched like a true ace that game, but tantrum Lackey was able to get the win thanks to bitching about strikes to the umpire).
That's not the worst moment. 1987 is worse. They were the best team in the majors and beaten 4 games to 1 in the ALCS by a team who had the worst regular season record of all 4 postseason qualifiers. Furthermore, the Twins were 29-52 on the road during the regular season. That the Tigers were beaten at home, TWICE, clinching the pennant in Detroit, made it highly ironic.
your mum i know right. We best them at SF to go up 2-0 and then get swept at home. Just disgraceful. Another qualifier should be Roy Halladays no hitter against us.
I remember watching that Giant Angels game as an 11 year old. As soon as it ended, I turned the TV off and just went to bed. I didn't talk for about a week after because of how hurt I was. THANKS FOR BRINGING THAT BACK UP
You probably couldn't find footage of it, but the worst single moment for the Jays, IMO, was blowing the division to the Tigers in '87. Specifically the ball going through Manny Lee's legs in the second-last game of the season in the 12th, putting the Tigers in the driver's seat for good.
Bryce McNeil That game can easily be found on RU-vid, although I think it is not a complete recording. I made a .gif of Garth Iorg tapping weakly back to Frank Tanana for the final out of that game because I'm a glutton for punishment, I guess. Blowing a 3-1 series lead to the Royals in 1985 was pretty bad, though. Jim Freaking Sundburg!
T- Max you can find a million uploads of the last game of that season, but it took a long time for someone to upload the second to last game......but now here it is : /watch?v=JeGlLewLslI
Any cardinals fan knows the name Don Dinkenger who made what is known as "the call" to umpires still today. He had a big part in us losing the 85 world series.
travis staebell Any cardinals fan ignores how much the team completely unraveled from the bad call. They could've easily worked around it but completely fucked up.
Wrong. That might have been a dumb call, but Jorge Orta ended up being the first out of the bottom of the 9th inning anyway. Jack Clark missed a fly ball. Todd Worrell threw a wild pitch. The Cardinals blew that.
as a mets fan, i didn't even think that was the worst moment in the series. by that point, we were already in a tough hole, down by more than two games. the real worst moment was when we were ready to wrap up game 1 on the road with a win and familia blew the save by throwing a cookie to Gordon. that was definitely the worst moment.
im a die hard phillies fan and that moment is etched deep in my mind...but mitch williams should of never had to shake off daulton bc he should never of been in to begin with...over managing and 3 pitchers later
The Dent HR deserves more attention-The Sox had a comfortable lead in the AL East before the Yankees took off. If they had won another game this never would have happened.
Before I start the video, as a Red Sox fan I pretty sure for ours it's gonna be the Bill Buckner play I am 99% sure if it's not then it is probably Bucky Dent's home run
There's a reason that he doesn't sound like he should be calling them. When asked in an interview, he said he doesn't watch sports in his free time, he watches Dancing With the Stars. He's a pretty boy for TV, nothing more.
Anyone from St. Louis will tell you that A. They hate him and his butt buddy Tim McCarver and B. The absolute only reason he has his job is because he is Jack Bucks son
Joe Sontag, I hardly think that real Cardinals fans hate Tim McCarver!!! They probably wouldn't have made it to the 1964 world series if it weren't for Tim McCarver. Or the '68 world series, for that matter. And how about the way McCarver hit in the 1964 world series? Simply put, the Redbirds wouldn't have won it all in '64 without Tim McCarver!!!!
Diamondbacks fan Here. In 2011 we lost to the brewers in game 5 in the 10th inning. Our 2000 loss to the Mets was in game 4 and it seemed like the Mets were in control the entire series. Granted we had 100 wins and Randy Johnson that year, but it felt like we had a better chance of beating the Brewers than those World Series bound Mets.
Considering how great those '90s Indians teams were, and how close the 1997 team was to winning it all, that was worse. Tony Fernandez basically had a Bill Buckner moment and Jose Mesa blew it in the 9th.
Not even close. You must be a newer baseball fan. Indians in 2016 weren't expected to get nearly that far, and got to within one game of winning the World Series without one of their best players (Brantley), and losing two of their top 3 pitchers right before the playoffs (Carrasco and Salazar). The Cubs were a big favorite.
Is it even possible to feel bad for the Yankees in their "worst moment"??? They had their thumb on the Red Sox for 84 years, and blew a 3-1 series lead. Boo hoo. At least you have 27 trophies to hug at night.
Jason Emmers its because it was a 3-0 lead and not a 3-1 lead. the only blown 3-0 lead in mlb history. not to mention that as a red sox fan i can admit that yanks team was probably more talented which adds even more salt to the wound
Yeah, I thought the same thing. But "worst" is a relative term. You could probably use: "That one time they came in second place and only had 3 players in the All Star Game". :D
Steinbrenner certainly thought it was the worst moment. I remember how obsessed (yes, OBSESSED) he was at getting back at the Red Sox for that ALCS during the 2004-05 offseason. Let's not forget that, just a season ago, the Yankees broke the Red Sox's hearts when (a) Aaron Boone homered in the 11th and (b) they nabbed A-Rod in just a week when the Red Sox couldn't do it over a few months, so for them to blow a 3-0 lead after ALL that...can you blame The Boss for being tormented?
It’s hard being a rangers fan for the past 7 years. 2010- swept in World Series 2011- blowing the World Series on one pitch twice 2012- were a superteam until September and I’m the wild card game Hamilton had “too much 24HR energy.” 2013-got 90 wins but lost a tiebreaker game to the rays to miss the playoffs 2014- 2nd worst team in baseball 2015- Bautista hit the three run home run 2016- the errors that lead to the jays winning 2017- we are now known as the other team in texas
I could go either way with the Padres moment in the video or Kirk Gibson's home run off of Goose Gossage in the deciding fifth game of the 1984 World Series vs. Detroit. After Gibson hit the home run, the Padres knew that they were toast.
As a lifelong Pirates fan I would have to disagree and say that the death of Roberto Clemente was our darkest moment. He was and still is one of the most iconic people in not just Pittsburgh sports, but the entire city's history.
Or perhaps both. In all my whining and complaining over our loss in 2001, I seem to have overlooked the debacle in the 2004 ALCS. But I'm leaning towards 2001 simply because of 9/11.
I figured the worst moment for the Twins was finding out that they only won their two Series because the building super messed with the ventilation so the wind blew in when their opponents were batting. (The Twins have never won a road game in the World Series.)
I think Gerrit Cole giving up a HR against the Cubs in the 2015 NL Wild Card game was the worst Pirates moment. Truly signaled the end of the Pirates playoff run in the 2010's.
Absolutely correct ! I thought the same thing, life and death v. a game whoever put this together really should be embarrassed by that. No, need to apologize for the name, I figured it was a bet/dare/joke.
I like how the White Sox worst moment is just some random bad play from their totally forgettable history where they're so terrible there isn't even a notable moment. Why was my dad born in the South Side.
04 Yankee collapse is probably the greatest moment in Sports I've ever witnessed. In over a hundred years of Baseball, it's been done only ONCE. That is simply incredible
Oh boo hoo!!!!! We just won the last 3 World Series and 4 of the last 5 and just because some morons flew a plane into a fucking building we think we are entitled to another one! Wahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh! Wahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!
as a tigers fan watching torii hunter fly over the wall made me sick. if we win game 2, we win that series, and we win the world series. what an absolute ball crusher that game was. a true kick to the scrotum.
Oh boo hoo! We just won the last 3 World Series and 4 of the last 5 and just because some morons flew a plane into a fucking building we think we are entitled to another one! Wahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh! Wahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!
No. The worse White Sox moment is the Black Sox Scandal. We had one of the best teams in MLB history but they ruined it and made the Sox one on of the worse teams for a hundred years
@@JayTemple True. Either team could have won the 1919 World Series. Sadly, the first World Series title for the Reds will be remembered as a a thrown World Series. And the White Sox are remembered for that.
As a Mariners fan it was that game 4 ALCS 2001 but not the walk off but inning before when Bernie Williams hit a HR to tie the game. Once it was tied I knew the Yankees were winning that game and ultimately the series.
Great compilation. That being said, there were a couple that I disagreed with. As a diehard Astros fan, although the 2015 ALDS loss hurt, the 1986 NLCS loss to the Mets hurt worse because the Astros outplayed the Mets in that series, but the umps took it away from us. From Joe West not calling Wally Backman out for being out of the basepath in Game 3, to the missed call at first in Game 5, every close call went the Mets' way. Game 3 was the only time in my life I ever cried after a ball game, because they stole it from us. I hated the Mets until this past season when we finally got our World Championship. I have forgiven the Mets now. The other one I take issue with is, how could the one for the Dodgers not be the 1951 Shot Heard 'Round the World? "The Giants won the pennant! The Giants won the pennant!" Remember, they had led the Giants by 13 games at one point. To lose it in that manner was far worse than losing in the World Series. At least all the teams that lost in the World Series won their league pennant that season.
What about the 16 inning game against the Mets in the playoffs in 1986? The Astros had the game in the bag pretty much going into the ninth inning. And they had their ace Mike Scott, who had the Mets scared shitless looming for Game 7 at the Astrodome. Had there been a seventh game, then I'm absolutely confident that the Astros would've won it. The Mets already knew that it would be a major struggle in trying to figure Mike Scott out so Game 6 in essence, became a de facto "do or die" game for the Mets.
I agree with a lot of the choices, but there are some that I would've done differently. They are: Baltimore Orioles: Jeffrey Maier Chicago White Sox: The Black Sox ScandalDetroit Tigers: Game 7 of the 1934 World SeriesMinnesota Twins: 2009 American League Division Series games 2 and 3Oakland Athletics: The Derek Jeter playSeattle Mariners: The 12-run collapse against the Cleveland Indians (the biggest reason we didn't win 117 games in the regular season, thanks to two bad calls in the 9th)Tampa Bay Rays: Game 4 of the 2013 American League Division SeriesToronto Blue Jays: 1987 late season collapseAtlanta Braves: 2011 game 162Colorado Rockies: The entire 2007 World Series Los Angeles Dodgers: Bobby Thomson homers off Ralph Branca New York Mets: Carbon copy collapses in 2007 and 2008Philadelphia Phillies: 1964 late-season collapse San Diego Padres: Final three games of the 2007 season (including the one-game play-off)San Francisco Giants: Final out of the 1962 World Series
PaladinCecil no, the 02 Giants blowing game six was worse. They had it all but completely wrapped up until Dusty Baker came and took Russ Ortiz out of the game. that one still hurts, as a Die Hard Giants fan. even our three recent World Series victories don't make up for that.
