WORST Move In Chess HISTORY?! 

In Christian Hesse's book "The Joys of Chess," there is a chapter entitled, "The worst of the worst." He writes, "Theoretically, the worst worst move must be one that overlooks mate in one and at the same time directly allows the opponent to mate in one. That must have happened in the history of chess, though we cannot immediately think of an example." Congratulations for finding not only an example of such a move, but one that *forces* the opponent to mate in one!

He had mate in one but decided to give forced mate in one to is opponent. That's the best gentleman move in history.

Multiple missed mates and forces his opponent to mate him in one. Honestly impressive.

When I saw that title I thought "No way, I'm sure I've played worse moves than whatever this is", but yeah, I don't think I've ever forced my opponent to win the game by making his only legal move 'checkmating me'.

Title is absolutely not clickbait. Not only did we have a missed mate, but literally created a situation where the opponents only legal move on the board was to win the game. Wouldn’t have believed it was possible until this video. Amazing content, and absolutely the gentleman of the year. Forcing your opponent to victory, whether they like it or not.

This literally cannot be worse. Going from 1 move checkmate to FORCED checkmate by your opponent in 1. It cannot be worse than this. It's not possible. The annotations in chess are: ?, ?!, !?, ?? etc. The annotation for this move is: ???XD

Ok, I've played many atrocious moves in chess, but I'm pretty sure none of them involved missing mate in one, hanging mate in one, and legally forcing the opponent to play the only winning move at the same time. That's so absurd, and so beautiful at the same time.

OK, I hung mate several times yesterday when I lost 100 Elo, and my opponents hung mate a few times in a winning position too but to force your opponent to check-mate you is not something one sees every day. The title really did not lie.

7:00 I think I’m not mistaken when I say that Qc5 is bad because you threaten the knight but their rook also threatens your knight. However, I think instead there is an insane Qc4. Because if black takes with the rook on b2, then knight b3 traps the rook. Right?

It's not just giving forced mate to the opponent in one, but marching the opponent's king to the position that allows such a forced mate.

I have never commented on a chess video, and was very skeptical of the title, but this was the most hilarious blunder I have ever seen. I wonder if BLACK saw the chance at the checkmate as he was pushing his king forward but figured it would never happen.

Great video (as usual)! This game should be immortalized for future generations. Forcing your opponent to checkmate you when an alternate move would checkmate your opponent must be the definition of the worst move possible, so definitely no clickbait in the title.

A situation in a game made me think of a great content idea for your 'How to lose at chess' series. 'Worst move in the position'. You could take a position submitted by a user and try and find the worst moves, or maybe even 'worst pawn move in the position'. My actual idea was to have the analysis board have an 'worst move'. Sounds silly, but it could be instructional!
