After dark every night I walk all over the downtown area in total safety.I've been doing this most nights for several years. What this bougois Is not telling you is the homeless people in the downtown area DONT BOTHER YOU unless you're such an idiot that you hang out with them (and I'm not talking about a social worker who's being PAID to do so)).The same goes for the Sandwich street area. After dark I have walked down Sandwich street to get to Riverside many times( and so have many high class, highly educated University of Windsor students) without EVER becoming a victim of ANY crime. The guy speaking in this video is some east end bourgeois who hasn't a clue what he's talking about.

Hey, thanks so much for the response! I actually discussed with a police officer and he was the source of my information for the downtown portion of this video, so id say thats a credible source! They may not bother you but they will break into your car which has happened to several people I know. I grew up on Harrison but I appreciate your assumptions. I can do a follow up video on this one maybe make it more clear why i chose these areas !

Fair. As a Windsorite, if i were giving advice to someone moving here with money. The poorest neighbourhoods have the highest crime, and the lowest prices for real estate. Rents are relatively low in those areas as well. Every city has these areas. There's also the Droullaird area, Remington Park, and Little River (used to be The Villages of Riverside).

Why would you use pictures of the bridge that isn't being built? The new bridge doesn't go anywhere near sandwich, it's way south closer to the expressway. I'm curious why crime rate is the only reason you list for these areas. Is there not more reasons you may want to go to or avoid a particular neighbourhood?

Your info on the new bridge and the boarded up homes on Indian Road (underneath the old Ambassador Bridge) is out dated and incorrect. You're showing the Ambassador Bridge Company's concept drawings for a new bridge. That is not the one being built. The new Gordie Howe bridge is currently being built about 3 kms west of the old bridge. And the boarded up homes on Indian Road have long since been torn down, and is being used as empty green space by the Ambassador Bridge Co.

I laughed out loud when I saw this video. Moved here from Detroit. Let me be perfectly clear here. Windsor no matter where you are is safe. Some areas may be run down, but perfectly safe to walk. Now Detroit on the other hand is NOT, and there you have areas that are not safe. But this is Windsor NOT Detroit. And if your going to do videos on Windsor at least be local… Best part about Windsor is it is NOT Toronto. Canada stops at London, and that is the way Windsorites want it to be.

Yeah I was thinking the same. I'm actually from Miami, Florida. Born and raised. 26 years old. I moved to a city called Penticton recently, but am considering moving to Windsor. Supposedly crime rates are bad in Penticton. But having been in Penticton and me being from Miami (born and raised) where it can be rough... I yawn at the "crime rates" 😂 and I'm a person of color. I guess it's the same in Windsor.

its a very big problem all cities are facing. With the rise in fentanyl, tranq and opioids it has really effected the well being of cities. Its terrible to see people struggle the way they do. Unfortunately that is powers higher than you or I can handle that need to be addressing those issues. Building a battery plant or new bridge wont help the hundreds ( maybe thousands) that are struggling with this.

I don’t see sandwich town getting much better anytime soon. It just seems to be locked in as a low income, lower quality of person part of the town. Which sucks. I hope I’m wrong because I love how historic it is, how it’s right on the water and it’s potential in general, but unless you start kicking the people out who live in the run down areas, not much will change.

I live in "midtown" off of Vic. Ave. It's urban but far enough out of the core to be surprisingly quiet and extremely walkable. Yes, you pretty much have to secure anything that is "take-able," so my patio furniture pieces all have a flimsy chain running through them (which only would slow someone down but that's enough where nothing's been ever been taken in over ten years). I would recommend *heavily* locking down bikes (and keeping them in sight as an extra precaution), or they are likely to be, eventually, nabbed (in one to five years). On the other glass half-full hand, whether it's a broken coffee maker, a wobbly chair, or an old futon frame, if you want to unload an item (and do I mean *any* item--even if you can't imagine why anyone would ever want it), placing it on the side of the alley will get it gone within a mere few hours and save you hassle of ever having to go to the dump. Digging a little deeper into the crime stats with a little extra nuance, far greater residential density can both mean more crimes but also more surveilling eyes to thwart and/or catch crooks. Our neighbourhood has both an informal and private community Facebook page for mass communication if someone notices something odd going on, to remind people to move their parked car on the first of the month to avoid ticketing, a photographic pet registry (so we can identify a lost pet or to whom an animal companion belongs), to strengthen our community connections with each other, and announce events, clean-up initiatives, etc. In the far more population sparse sub- and exurbs, the number of crimes reported is much lower than in the far more densely jam packed downtown. So, I'd be interested in the per capita crime rate based on residential density in, for example, making comparisons between wards; eighty crimes committed in a month in an area of 20 000 people (0.004%) vs. 50 with a population of 10 000 (0.005%) would actually, despite commonly held impressions, make a downtown resident less likely to be a target of crime. There are also more people and eyes on the street; the more foot traffic, the fewer crimes get committed. In a quiet, low density neighbourhood, a perfidious ne'er-do-well can get around all over an area without ever being seen or encountering another person. In our neighbourhood, with our foot traffic, observant and communicating residents, installed network of solar powered motion detector lights, cameras, and Ring doorbells, not so much. Anyway, just my two cents. windsorps.maps.arcgis.com/apps/dashboards/97664fba2c5d451eb7b3a7b8a51b6af7 www150.statcan.gc.ca/n1/pub/85-002-x/2020001/article/00001/windsor-eng.htm

Great insight into exploring crime on a per capita basis. Maybe if i went by ward it would paint a better picture. Thats great to hear how much pride yourself and the neighborhood has to create and protect eachother like that. I know a lot of communities around the city have their smaller group in order to help. Thanks so much for the feedback, I’ll definitely keep it in mind!
