I honestly don’t believe they are actually tumbling “leather” anymore, it seems like they just emboss the tumbled look into it. Tumbling leather would actually soften it as well.

Buying kicks in 2020 is absolutely frustrating.

I used to believe Nike cared about the consumer, but between the SNKRS/Nike app and all the hyped up releases and all around refusal to combat resellers or people taking advantage of the system I'm just happy to grab anything at retail nowadays. The retail chain I work work has a policy that they claim is handed down from Nike that we can't knowingly sell ti resellers, but I'm beginning to doubt that more and more.

I had the exact same "cancel" experience buying the "Sonics" pair. It went through on the day, and then was just cancelled without explanation. I didn't try again though, your review solidifies that decision. Thanks man.

Kemp wore them in, I believe, the 91 Dunk Contest. Barkley wore black and white ones with the Sixers. Been trying to cop a pair of that colorway for so long. Absolutely love the Flight 89s.

The whole Nike buying experience is horrible right now between jumping through hoops for the ability to buy the shoes and then the snail slow shipping process, the boxes that scream to the whole world what you bought and the shoddy craftsmanship, I seriously have to think how bad I want a shoe before purchasing. I had poor crafted kicks as well. The problem is I wanted the shoes so bad, waited for the shoe to release & it is difficult now to get it from Snkrs. When you call customer service, they will just ask you to return the item. They don’t understand your frustration in getting a flawed item. The struggle to acquire them. I guess they’re not a sneakerhead or a Jordan fan.

The classic Nike False Advertising case I had was with the Jordan 15 Retro a few years ago when they said there was forefoot zoom but it was just a different density foam. I returned them and got the Storm Blue Jordan 1 on discount so I won in the end.

In Canada, on the footlocker.ca there's the Jordan 1 Mid "USA" colorway with a gold swoosh and wings logo and the navy blue on the Js are leather but when you purchase it, the swoosh is navy and wings logo is white and the overlay isn't even leather ...... Bruuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuhh. I contacted them and they said "yes we realized its the wrong picture" so like why haven't you changed it? Can't be that hard right? 😭

Yoooooo. Same f***ing experience bro! I have almost every color way of 89s they have up on the site. I LOVE the 89s. Never had any issue with any of the other colors. I was trying to get the Sonics colorway. Ordered them a month goes by the ship date has long passed and they’re still not otw. I call them they tell me the warehouse they’re supposed to come from is sold out so they’re checking another warehouse. They give me a new ship date. That date passes. I call again just to cancel the order at this point. They give me ANOTHER ship date and they say the same thing I get an email and a “preparing shipment” update on Nike. Com. I noticed these two color ways are advertised different and they look more “retro” than the other color ways. The shape is a bit different and the material is supposed to be better. I still haven’t got my Sonics pair yet and now I see why. And IF I get them I’ll see how my pair turns out.

I appreciate your honesty and frustration on these. Seems like we either get insane materials on some garbage-ass silhouette that I almost want to buy just for the material quality or we get a silhouette we want, but the screw up the shape and use garbage-ass materials, so I can't bring myself to spend the money on it. It's a shame. Will definitely be looking for that Sonics colorway on sale in the future.

3 separate orders, each order the shoe(s) were clearly used. 1 was damaged upon delivery. Couldn't order another pair because by the time I received my item(s) my size or the shoe was no longer in stock. Customer rep legit suggested I just clean them and I could return if I still wasn't satisfied. Their best consolation for my grief was 10%...for 3 separate and repeated issues. Their QC needs some work man...

Man, you're not small. I think you have the most legit reviews. So no matter whose reviews I watch, I always search if you have done them too. I value your views on sneakers.

I had the same experience when the white/fire red 5's came out. I ordered 2 pairs and one of them had a piece of material missing. The material that wraps around the toe box. The shoe looked like a factory reject that not even Marshall's would sell!! I understand your pain bro. Send them back and get some fresh pairs.

MY BEST NIKE EXPERIENCE was when the laser orange 3 dropped & i bought them by accident then cancelled my order for my money back. Not only did i get my money back but i got the shoes still sent to me..Best Mistake Ever😂💯

totally feeling you on this one and you are absolutely correct speaking out facts. Out of my 10 last Nike orders I have returned 9. Quality is insanlely bad and I have no idea if they do not take any pride in manufacturing their products. Panels cut differently or crooked, too high, too short, different shapes, collars different heights, heels cut differently, bumps in midsoles our outsoles, one shoe smaller than the other etc. etc. It just hurts when you order something you have been happy to re-release and you know you're gonna get a shoe that you will have to return and exchange.

I had the same experience with the “Foot” stores and the Reebok Question red toes that just dropped. I ordered on Champs launch day and they processed and took my money. 5 days later got the email saying they canceled the order. Then I went to footlocker and they had my size in stock. Ordered again and now 7 days later they canceled on me. I checked both sites and Eastbay and they all showed 13 in stock. Unlike you I was over it and just saved my wallet.

Same thing happened to me two weeks ago on the nike app with a pair of Air Force 1 ‘07 midnight navy. I had to reorder the shoe 4 times until they actually shipped it.

Yeah I'm an old head so Flight 89 is in my top 5 all time. I ordered the 'Chicago' Flight 89, Baby blue and they were trash. They also felt fake so I'm with you.

Damn, those really looked like knock-offs! I hate those lousy crapmanship, my 11s low’s stitchings on the toe area of the patent leather look different between the left pair and the right pair, like from the top view you can really tell that it’s different. Once I got an 11s low which air unit squeaks every time I walk, only on the left pair tho! Why is it so damn difficult to have a proper Quality Control on their production! I hope Nike havin a frenzy reading all these comments. Btw I am from Indonesia, I feel awful for the bad quality comin from “made in indonesia” production. This is kinda funny tho, I once ordered an airmax 90 recraft and was surprised by the better craftsmanship, it surprised me even more knowing that it was “made in indonesia”. This is very inconsistence and unsustainable quality issues 🤷‍♂️

Do you remember an Air Flight 89 that had a Velcro strap across the forefoot? I think they would have come out on 1993 or 94....they were also nubuck, I believe?

I was in 7th grade when the 89’s were out. The best model of all was the Air Flight 89 low in black/grey. I had to wait until the 90’s came out, which were very cool but when I got my AF 89 highs in white/black, I LOooooooooved them!!! In Sole Provider, there is a great vintage ad of Ron Harper wearing them as “The Ohio Flyer!”

Omg bro I can’t even finish the video before I comment and say every damn time I order from Nike they send me a shoe that look like they been in somebody storage for years. And they look like they’re made by knock off companies. I’m from the 90’s and those are not good at all !

I havent been impressed with the quality of their shoes being shipped out of nike lately, I have had the same issues with order cancellations and then a cancel of the cancellation....its like come on folks what is up with the brand. Hope you get it sorted with those shoes bud.

Both has been released a couple of months ago in Europe. I peeped this video 2 years ago & I was like:” Ok, can’t have the sonic ones cause I trust the man’s expertise a lot. I still copped a sonic pair 1 week ago because I just absolutely love the looks. And I don’t know…for some reason material-wise the EU release seemed to be a whole other shoe. Thick smooth leathers, no dents & stuff…just impeccable workmanship. I’m super happy with these & I’m glad that I got my hands on a pair anyways…

LOL your title brought memories back for me…….In 96 I was managing the Footwear Dept. of a Bg Box sporting goods retailer. The company was going through growing pains and found themselves in a huge debt with Nike (rumours were over millions in debt) and Nike stopped shipping to us…..try hitting sales goals and targets without Nike production your shoe wall…..well I took the challenge face on and showed profit and beat targets for two years straight without Nike on the wall by training my staff and selling shoes technically for features and benefits rather than style……it was a tough go but we still had a good running selection, yeah I’ll cut it off there, the title of your video reminded me of my worst Nike shopping experience…….

yooo i have to agree with you man i also copped the supersonics colorway a month or two ago and was heavily disappointed when they arrived. the colorway is still clean af but the craftsmanship of the shoe left a lot to be desired 😩

I love the Air FLight '89's hands down but the major gripe I have about the flight 89's midsole/outsole IS IT IS NOT THE SAME MOLD as the Air Jordan 4 retro's. As I'm sure your aware the original FLIGHT 89'S had identical outsoles/midsoles as the air Jordan 4's. They look alike in appearance but these new flight '89 midsoles/outsoles are fuck'd by comparison to the actual Air Jordan 4 midsoles/outsoles. Hold up a pair of Jordan 4's to a pair of 89's they're different in shape especially the outsoles outrigger it's choked up in the sense that it doesn't flow nicely like the 4's do.

That’s a shame that these are so terrible. I had them in 89 and when they first retro’d. I loved playing in them and they were solid!

Nike definitely needs to work on their qc. I bought a pair of the ‘Yin-Yang’ Jordan 1 a while back, and when I received them, the toe boxes were COMPLETELY different. The leather on each shoe had a different texture. And the right shoe felt TOO snug for my size. I couldn’t even wear them as beaters smh🤦🏻‍♂️ And for the ‘UNC to Chicago’ Jordan 1, the tongue on the right shoe was short af! And the top lace holes were not punched in on the left.

The Mamba Fury that I had recently bought had something protruding underneath the midsole by the toebox area, it felt like a giant pebble . It made wearing the shoe uncomfortable and I had to return it right away. I didn't want to because I liked the CW but no way I was gonna settle for that defect.

Love this shoe too for a lot of the same reasons. Back in 2012 I bought some and fell in love with shoes all over again. I hope Nike brings these back with real materials soon. I took back the black and whites that just came out because they were plastic. I have seen better leather on Walmart shoes.

My mother wouldn't buy me Jordan's back in the day either, i had to get a pair of those but was on top of the world when I got them!!

I have a special place in my heart for the Flight 89s because they are the shoes UNLV wore when they destroyed Duke for the 1990 championship, so I always am looking to re-up,. This summer they put out the white and red edition again, and stupid me dutifully shelled out a pair for the sake of nostalgia; they are straight ass. As Nightwing says, pretty much every single edition of the 89 Flights gets worse. A few years ago Nikelab did editions in tumbled leather in red, vachetta, blue, and I think olive or grey. Those were gorgeous and well done. But the GEs are brutal and i felt like a sucker for trying to reconnect with my youth. Thanks Nike!

Saw this in footlocker yesterday but the toe shape is boxy and roomy than usual They dont make Air Flights like they used to

I went onto the Nike app. If you click on the green and yellow ones it lists 2 color ways. The green ones and the purple ones. Both appear to use the same material. But on the Nike app they also have the purple ones by themselves that look like the ones they shipped you. So weird.

I had a pair of these in a light grey. I loved them. My worst experience with Nike is probably when I ordered a pair of shoes from the website and never got them. I can’t remember exactly what happened but Nike claimed they couldn’t give me a refund. Because I was working finish line, and Nike was literally next door, I walked over there and talked to one of the managers I knew very well. He ordered the shoes to the store, and he gave them to me without any issues because he’s been on the wrong end of that before. Honestly if I didn’t know the guy, I feel like Nike would have just sworn up and down that there was nothing that could be done

For the first time in a long time, I’ve been buying more of other brands over Nike. They keep raising the prices on everything and the materials get worse. Not to mention how they constantly put the wrong material information on shoes. Genuine leather ends up being synthetic. Shit has gotten so annoying lol not to mention the limited availability of so many good shoes. I can't believe the Air Max 1 is beginning to retail for $140 now and GR colorways are being made into limited SNKRS drops.

I totally understand why you feel the way you do. You and I are a bit older and for me, the Flight 89's were the very first pair of Nike's that I ever owned. Before these shoes it was all just no-name cheapos, understandably cos I was young and still growing. But I begged my mother for a pair of Nike's and these were the pair. They had everything I wanted...the swoosh, the air bubble window, the logo at the back...I wore the hell out of them! If I ordered a pair now out of pure nostalgia and got this kind of experience, it would totally tarnish these childhood memories I have.

Flight 89’ used to have pillows on the heel. Same as the OG 4. They have never done it the same.

I ordered the red Nike Air More Uptempo 720, and when it arrived, it had a black scuff mark on the toe box of one of the shoes, like it was machinery oil, or something. I sent it back for an exchange, and they sent me another pair that had the same black scuff mark on the same area of the toe box. I liked the design of the shoe so much, I decided to just keep it. And then they were having like 30% off, so I ordered another pair, and once again, same black scuff mark on the toe box. Terrible quality control. 😔

Wow, they changed the heel collar to leather horrendous!! 2013 version quality was ok but at least the collar was plush

DEVASTATED with how those Green/Yellow Flights came out. I'm 41 so I was 12-13 and Kemp was by far my favorite player (his dunks were something nobody had seen at the time ... He had the power of Dominique but smooth like Jordan). Nike had a GOLDEN opportunity to release a Kemp throwback, which should've also came in black cause that's what Kemp usually wore and with the green/yellow it'd look sick ... Like a dark grey more than black). NO EXCUSE and such a wasted opportunity.

I remember a classmate of mine lent me his pair of these way back in my HS days (so I had the OGs I think.). It was the first time I played in a Nike Air product. It was so bouncy vs my other shoes.

The wifey maybe right, someone I know who worked at a Nike retail store but still had their discount after they quit. Would use their discount and sell the shoes back on eBay. Their Nike account was shadow banned, couldn’t order anymore shoes.

I’m looking at the Nike app now and it’s the same photo for both of these shoes but it looks like they photoshopped the different colorways. Maybe that’s why the materials look the same on the website and not in hand.

I bought two pairs of the air flight 89s relatively close together, 1 pair was the all star weekend pair (black orange and green), and a white and olive pair. The all star colourway is great, the leather is a thinner cut but it’s nice and soft, and they have that super squishy polyurethane midsole. They some in that retro black with the orange lid sportswear box. Would recommend if you like the colourway, I’m a big fan of Halloween so I had to cop. The white and olive pair came in a normal nsw box and is pretty much in line with your original review. The leather is so stiff it’s way too tight around the toe. So if you want a nice quality pair of air flights try for that all star colourway, I think you’ll be more satisfied. Thanks for the great content hope y’all are well!

I’m right there with you, Chris. I got the white/red pair as a Christmas gift last year and wanted so desperately to wear them, but the synthetic leather is so stiff and the shape is just too square-ish for me to rock. Eh, maybe I’ll try this week to see what I can do.

I just bought the white and red color way of the air flight 89s as a gift for my dad. Because of COVID he hasn’t worn them anywhere yet lol. But I think they are a cool shoe they have a very nostalgic look to them very 80s. My pops really likes the way they looked. Also I’m digging the new little intro graphic with the footprint. Sorry the kicks were built so poorly, thankfully the ones I got for my dad were built nicely.
