I mean some people wear them in the end, that's why the value stays so high and continues to rise, some oil prince somewhere wrecking a pair a week lol
What came first the chicken or the egg? the game fucked up as soon as Jordan brand began artificial inflation. Jordan brand created this monster by limiting production of there sneakers to artificially create scarcity and high demand for there sneakers... It's the same game that drives the value of diamonds, which are not at all a rare stone... De Beers has a global monopoly on diamond mining which allows them to manipulate the market value through the use of artificial inflation. The resale market of sneakers was essentially spawned on the heels of deadstock OG sneakers and highly limited/exclusive sneakers like the undefeated 4s selling for absurd amounts of money... or at least being listed at such ridiculous prices, that it seeded the thought in millions of minds that sneakers are an investment and if you cop the right pairs you could strike gold. I mean, you can price anything at any monetary value you want, whether or not it sells is another story... At the end of the day scarcity drives the market value, when something is highly limited and exclusive than its perceived as extra valuable and those with money to burn will purchase said product for the perceived status symbol it provides them. Basically all i'm saying is between wealthy buyers willing to pay the absurd resale prices and Jordan Brand making extremely limited friends and family sneakers, as well as creating scarcity through there regular production lines... It was only a matter of time before everything spiraled out of control. We all hate the idea of resellers and it's easy to push blame on the resellers and resale buyers for creating this entire mess, but at the end of the day, its Jordan Brand that has created the system and fed the fire which birthed the sneaker resale market into what it is today.
No one is happy especially if you grow up in the 80’s. My mom got me Jordan Ones Chicago’s for 40 bucks at JC Penny’s in 85 for my birthday plus a Thriller album. Best birthday memory ever.

If someone will pay $1000 for a $180 retail shoe, then re-sellers will always be around. As soon as these buyers stop paying the ballooned re-sell price, then things will calm down.
I agree. Life’s too short to not wear something you like. But at the same time, no need to spend that much money. I do understand the hesitation to wear a high value sneaker though. I have the Union 1’s and haven’t worn them yet and have been too afraid to almost.
For me, I rather buy reps than giving free money to resellers. Your money doesn't go to the brand, it goes to bots and resellers. They are at fault for making the sneaker price sky rocketing and killing the sneaker culture. Also Nike is dumb, they can make more money restocking or even make there shoes a pre order release. Forget brand loyalty when Nike doesn’t make the shoes available. I’m only loyal to wallet and hard earned money.
Nike is not dumb, those limited releases are like free press to them to sell all their other models, it's like the Bugatti Veyron, VW made it to prove it could be done, they lost money of every Veyron they ever sold but it brought recognition to their brand in the car world and helped them move their product.
@@CASTRO45ACP except they lost money because of how expensive to craft the vehicle was an all of the R&D and what not as opposed to taking a $170 Jordan and flipping the swoosh on it and calling it special. It’s not made of anything exotic. No extra anything put into it.
@@CASTRO45ACP stop it man, they’re losing money plain and simple bottom line is a lot of those shoes would still sell out if they made more, and last I checked a Bugatti is made from quality materials it’s one of the fastest cars in the world it’s all quality, Jordan’s often times feel like 220 receipt for a 2 dollar shoe with all the bad materials, they flip a swoosh make a “colab” with someone who has no idea about how to make shoes and call it a “special release” like look at the Jordan 1 union those are ugly as fuck and go up to almost 2,000 forget that
Even the authentics had quality control issues. Pretty sad that the “fakes” use the same stuff and provide the same or sometimes even better quality control.

I didn’t even get a chance to get started. I’ve been trying to give my money to Jordan Brand for almost two years now and guess how many times I’ve hit on anything? Zero!! I don’t buy resale as I wear my shoes so it’s not worth it to me. Imma keep trying but damn this is bullshit.

Right about that mane!! Trying to do more investing for my retirement, than copping these sneakers. Even at retail prices, the way JB drops stuff you still spending thousands.
This is how it was explained to me.. For every shoe, Nike puts out contracts to different factories that shows the design of the shoe and what they want when it's created. Whichever factory makes the best product based on the specs Nike gave them, they win the contract and they produce the shoe. However, remember there's multiple factories that were handed out those contracts on the specs. They're supposed to "throw them away" and not put the shoe into production, but some factories don't do that. They make almost identical reps and sell them because they have the original design specs. 👌🏾
That is what I Thought since I have seen today replicas that are very similar than OG's. That is a problem that Nike should take in consideration especially with the globalization of shipping....
There’s no way they’re dumb enough to give the drawings and specs for a new shoe to multiple factories and just hope they toss them when they don’t get the contract. This is China where they are master imitators. They just buy the real shoe and source the closest material they can to make the shoes on their own. When it’s a new product, they have to reverse engineer it but with Jordan’s that have been around for years, they already have the plans and if they don’t, they’re for sale somewhere. Nike just isn’t giving them away willingly.
I'm from Brazil, and here in Brazil the pairs sold by nike are of a lower quality than pairs from other places. The resale here is also insane, any model is very expensive, because our currency is devalued. That is, if Nike doesn't care about selling quality pairs, why should people care about buying original pairs? Most of the time the UA pair and the original pair are made in the same country, use the same materials and the same cheap labor, the difference is that the "original" pair is resold for much more expensive, when in fact it cost the same cents to be manufactured, as well as the fake pair ...
This is the same issue I find with Transformers and Hasbro. Simply put, 3rd party often takes hasbro products and vastly improves on them: bigger, better paint, more detail, better working toy aka fixes existing issues w/toy or QC issues, or both. Plus, cheaper price.
Truth, same thing happened to me when I went into Hibbett one day. I told them kids working in there I hit on the Frag Jordan 3 and the first thing mentioned was resale and was I going to wear them🤷🏽♂️
Completely man, like what happened to getting them cuz you like em, funny thing is anything with a special label like “NRG” or “ Cactus Jack” will go for like 2,000 just cuz of that, some of them look nice but a lot are just ugly, like those union 4s they look like terrible, I swear they could take a Payless shoe stitch a jumpman and Nike with a lightning bolt or Dior on it and sell it for 1,000 sneaker game has been going downhill
It makes me feel very uncomfortable wearing my jordans because I have a pair that have a high resell price but I’m scared to wear them, I miss the days when we used to actually wear our shoes not hoard them because of the resell price
"Authenticy" is a state of mind. Many of the "real" and "UA" pairs are made in the same factories with same materials even by workers who used to be in the "real" factories. I'm all for copping retail, but end of the day you're playing yourself if you really care all that much about authenticity for a product strictly made in low supply to exploit people. I love shoes, but they brands aint ya friends.
@@dmillzzz1918 I'm not sure why you're coming at me so aggressively instead of having a dialogue. Obviously, there are differences between retail and UA sneakers. What you're failing to understand from my inital comment is that if you do your research you will find out that many factories are started up from previous employees tired of being paid poorly for highly skilled work. Many rep workers have better quality of life than the employees of multi-billion dollar companies like Nike. If "Authenticy" is so important to you then you should also be holding these companies accountable for the ways in which they exploit their workers. I love sneakers. I buy retail, resell, and reps. The most f'up thing is that those who actually wants to wear the shoes can never get them retail, only reseller get retail for flipping... that's wrong man
If I can't hit on the shoe for retail, I just forget about it. Unfortunately the scarcity drives up demand and hype, it's now no longer but genuinely liking the shoes you're buying and only about "how much resell can you get".
Yeah, I’m not buying a shoe for 400 either. I like shoes as much as the next guy but I don’t have it like that and can’t justify spending that kind of money. I’m not even a sneaker head like that but I tried to get pair of Kobe’s recently and that shit sold out in 3 minutes or something insane. Bought a pair of fakes on e-bay a long time ago (2012 hyperdunks lol) and I’m not going back to that to get burned again. Shot around in them once and you could tell by the foam/padding that they weren’t real.
I just came across this video and want to say I’m glad you touched on this topic. I became huge into sneakers in like 2015 and felt like it was not hard to get the shoes like it is now. I have not won a release since Footlocker and Champs switched over to the stupid FLX thing. Now SNKRS is like a needle in a haystack when it comes to getting a sneaker. I am not going to pay resell for any shoe at this point. Now seeing that replica sneakers are using the same materials it is just about them nailing certain details i will go that route. The everyday person does not have have $800 to throw on some damn shoes. Love this video you made!
Hey Guys! This topic has been on our minds for a bit and we want to hear what you guys think about it. Let us know your thoughts down below. Thanks for watching!
Thanks man this video speaks what I've been having issues with the shoe industry. Fakes would not exist if shoes weren't made in limited numbers. I wear all my shoes. I love them as much as you. We share many things. Power rangers Jordan's and any 90s shoe. I wanted the 11s this past December but it ran out and and resellers are screwing over people. Sick of it.
Sup nightwing, this video and the last one about the industry as a whole really resonated with me and the way i look at the "sneaker community". It has changed so much since i've started and even though we're a dying breed i love to see likeminded people still exist and actually care for the shoe, the materials and the backstory and not about the value. But yeah, on topic, i'd never buy fakes but i do understand Nike's creating a need for them with their crazy release strategy. Man, i miss camping out. And getting J's at retail.
I remember the Eastbay Mags and circling shoes that I wanted like the old Toys R Us Christmas Mags lol. there's guys like you that keep the old school mindset alive of loving and learning the history of sneakers. 🤘
Exactly! Me too. Taking Ls left and right. Thanks to bots, we can't even get the sneaker and wear it. I refuse to pay resell prices.... It's not that important
The crazy part is you could be wearing a pair of authentic Travis Scott 1’s and somebody can come up and say yo those are fake, and right there they’ve created doubt and now people think your real pair is fake. There are material and build variations even in real pairs, so it gets really difficult to tell the real ones from the fake ones at times.
I hate their fees as a buyer. There are some great finds under retail. But with the processing fee, shipping, and tax the total goes back near retail price.
For real even Stock X cant authenticate anything, its a con... Even in this video, the only reason he can tell is because he knows which one is fake. If he just got the fakes, with nothing to compare them to its just a guess. Hell there is a reason Nike got outlets in every town, their manufacturing process doesnt produce perfect shoes. There are noticable differences in some Jordans from one size to another.
You literally make my day every single time that you upload a vid, doesn't even matter if I like the shoe or not, I just watch it and learn a lot. Keep it up guys!
Yessir. I’m with you. At this point idc if people make fun of my fakes. If you wanna spend $1k on a shoe and then wear it and devalue it, be my guest lmao
I personally salute/thank Chris, because he really made me realize “things are only worth what your willing to pay for them”. I always think about that when I purchase anything. 💯
Hopefully, they’re hearing you because you’re not alone with your thoughts!!! I do remember the days I could go in the store and buy a pair with no problems until now.... Keep it up & truly appreciate you!!!
I really have given up on getting Jordans even though I want them. I’m not wearing fakes so I’m pretty much out of luck. And I refuse to pay resell prices
@W It's not about other people caring, it's about me caring. I can't do fakes cuz half the fun is being able to cop an authentic sneaker for retail. It's like a sport to me and so I look at both paying resale and buying fakes as cheating personally. My sneakers are like trophies lol. If I take an L I just move on to the next fight. Also I like to sell my sneakers once I'm done with them to get the money I spent on them back😂
I blame the companies as well....I dont blame people wearing fakes. Why, because of these resellers trying to rip off faithful people. I have NEVER owned a pair of 11s because I can never afford and refuse to pay resell prices. I think jordan/nike should just push up the amount they make. That will solve the problem but I think they love this hype culture I hate it.
I agree with you too, but if you consistently go after what you like on SNKRS , Adidas and Confirmed apps, you WILL hit on some. I have copped some 11's, 13's, 1's, 5's and Yeezy's this way. Would like to try the UA's to see for myself though. Sneaker companies do not care, they counting their $$ AND they don't have those shoes sittin' in their warehouses waiting for a buyer! 🖕🏼resellers!
Absolutely I agree with you. It's like the greed of the companies/brands vs the greed of the reseller....and who pays the price??? It's us sneaker lovers! ☹️
While I agree companies are greedy, I also would argue you’re not trying bro. Lmao, I have had to TRY every time to get an 11. And if I try hard enough, I get them. I.e. driving a couple hours to a dead nearby mall if I have to. They make hundreds and thousands of pairs. They’re out there if you really want them.
If people ask they are replicas. And I wear the absolute fuck out of each of my replica pairs and never feel bad about wearing them in the elements. It’s a win win win honestly.
I work for Nike. I can't get everything. I've worn fakes in before and nobody notices. Shoes and jerseys. The jerseys are mainly for the quality. They charge $110 for a see through screen printed jersey vs a stitched one for $17 from overseas. The company really doesn't have much opportunity for their own employees to cop shoes too. I couldn't get the Grinches so I'll be copping the fakes too. I would much rather buy a fake than be out here lining a resellers pocket. That's just me though.
It won’t. They tried that and it backfired. If shoes are too easy to cop hypebeasts will no longer have hype on the product. The shoes will be left sitting. Look at the Nike release calendar. Sneaker after sneaker after sneaker. And due to the hype the J’s and dunks all sell out instantly. Nike would prefer that than to meet demand on each release. What I do hope is that they look at the recent yeezy bred rerelease. The production was HUGE, 500K pairs. Global sell out. On the back of last dance they could easily retro OGs with plenty of supply and make bank. Looks unlikely tho
@@BurnMyEyes0107 I’m glad you point that out because people seem to forget Nike listened and increased production years ago and a lot of retros sat, went on sale, or went to outlets and Nike didn’t like that. I also remember because of that ppl saying Jordan’s are dying and all that and I never cared. It was just great to catch em easily and a lot of times on sale. You also perfectly said how they’ve countered by cramming releases on to the calendar, hype them, produce less, & sell out rather than less releases more pairs that ended up sitting. I still wish they’d just produce more but what’s happening now is EXACTLY what Nike wants.
@@BurnMyEyes0107 you are right but when stock numbers were high they were putting out bullshit ass colorways I remember working at footaction and footlocker 2014 2015 they were just some wack cw at that time
The only reason why shoetuber say they can't wear fake is to only protect their channel integrity and views. If they didn't have a channel they would rock reps all day.
All the arguments for not buying reps are getting ridiculous now too. They're basically not trying to say, if other people can get them, then I don't feel cool anymore. Or how should I feel if I'm the only one paying resell/not making as much money by reselling. Its never about culture.
Awesome video, man! Love the channel. It's a no-brainer when a resell price of a sneaker goes for 2-3k and one can find the fake shoe for 100 dollars or so. And you know the worst part? Its freaking better quality sometimes - goodbye glue stains, manufacturer issues. It's ridiculous, man. Still, i refrain from buying those, but can't blame anyone for doing so. Totally justified
Love this vid! I agree with everything. Back in the day you only missed out if you came too late, your size was gone or you didn’t have the money. Now, BOTS!!!!
Love the content bro. I completely agree with you. For me, I don’t wear fakes. I pay resell when it’s reasonable, but most of the time, I just buy something else that I can afford.
I can’t believe where the sneaker game has gone. I remember spending the summer in Cali with my grandmother (I’m from NY) and she took me to JC Penny and bought me me the entire “Bred 1” set. This was in ‘86, I was 7yrs old. I got the nylon pants, the shorts and the red tee that had the old Jordan logo (basketball with wings). I say all of that to make an important point. My mother bought me the Jordan 2’s when they released. I HAD THEM BEFORE MY GRANDMOTHER GOT ME THE BRED 1s!!!! So back then, you were STILL able to get your hands on a pair of Jays for RETAIL months later!!!!! I wasn’t a big basketball fan yet, so I really didn’t understand why everyone was so impressed with my kicks. I started to watch basketball around the time the 5’s were released. But again, it still amazes me that we’ve gotten to the point that it is damn near impossible to simply buy a sneaker you like. I remember being able to buy a pair, ruining them and possibly buying them AGAIN!!!!! Those days are certainly gone now...smh
Big props for this video man! You not only highlighted the problem, but you proposed a reasonable solution too. Great video to get the message out there 🤟
Finally somone that understands why people buy Reps... I've tried for years to buy a sneaker off nike and have never had luck no way in the world would i ever spend that amount of money for resale price. Shout out to the Plug you can never tell a difference unless you have them side by side ;)
The biggest problem is bulk resellers/bots, rigged raffles and backdooring. That's were option B is available for those that are tired of taking L's every release that just want to wear them.
True. I dont think the problem is resellers, anyone can sell anything. I think the problem is with the tools people are using to buy the pair. Nike or jordan or adidas can make 100mil pairs, bots can still eat these up imo.
I thought I was the only one getting annoyed by the reselling industry, people are now hogging sneakers only to sell them for profit, they resort to bots now and not even 1 minute out, the shoes are sold out, bruh
Have you watched any of these reseller videos on RU-vid? The resellers are killing guys trying to sell their shoes to them and CRUSHING people who buy those shoes from them. That is what has really effed up the sneaker game for those of us who just want the shoe to wear, for their collection or both. 🖕🏼resellers!
i saw a video the other day of a guy with 100 pairs from like on finish line. its rediculius, the only time i dont care bout resellers is when theyre going out buying them from othrr people
Honestly I wanna resell sneakers but without the use of bots and gross over pricing. I don't want to use bots because its just unfair on people wanting the shoe normally. I hope this doesn't come off as dickish.
Well said and nicely put, got screwed on those, was on shoulda had em and then the SNKRS app disconnected and when I got back , SOLD OUT, tired of that from SNKRS and Nike, made a complaint and asked a few questions but never got a response or reply, shows me where I sit as a customer/consumer
damn i rly want reps since I'm still a teenager and i can't afford the expensive resell prices. but I'm afraid to get called out and get asked where i bought them...
Hilarious how the "shoe industry" is a perfectly operating industry with minimal "problems". This 0.5% of the industry, all these collectible, rare, limited , expensive resale shoes etc... Only problems are the idiots that pay these hundreds and thousands of dollars for them.
Very valid points man. I agree if you push people they will resort to what they need to do. With image being so "important" people will fake it. But to each its own. But quality is quality.
There’s no hype or marketing for Nike if they do that. It helps the consumer for sure but they’re too greedy. All they’d do is limit the preorder which would still generate a resell market.
No body is going to tell you exactly how they do it but to see a guy with 50 to 100 pair in a pic and I wanted one pair 🤔, is a real bitch! Sometimes I wonder if these brands are in with the resellers because of all the money left on the table.
I have a real L&F and a rep pair. The Rep pair actually came out better than the real pair. The lateral side on the real right shoe looks like it has a damn Bunion. Can't believe it made it through QC.
This year has definitely ruined my experience with sneakers. From not being able to buy the ones I want because of resellers to not having anywhere to wear what I already own.
That’s why I’m doing nonikeshoes this month as my protest on Nike after I couldn’t get grinches like ur right if they had a million pairs they would still make money it’s frustrating

When people saying "I can't wear fakes" Please give me a reason why not? Its just freaking shoe. Same materials same quality. It goes on your feet and touch the dirty ground.
Simple economic principle at play called "Willingness to Pay" -- companies and resellers benefit (profit) the most when they can sell us their products/goods as close to this price as possible. This would maximize their bottom line. If they could, they would target each of our individual "willingness to pay" prices for every product and only sell to those who have the highest willingness to pay -- In a way, resellers play this role in the secondary market. But at the end of the day, people who aren't willing to pay can hold off, look for alternatives, or as Chris highlighted, buy replicas for hundreds less. Great video highlighting a valid concern. Thanks Chris.
#StopTheResell Don’t buy shoes for resell especially from resellers. Let them bot buy and by thousands. But don’t buy from them. If people don’t buy they don’t sell. Make them sell for retail.
you have to understand supply and demand. in business there's something called sales velocity. Just like how hype shoes increase in price, because it sold out; certain shoes go on sale, because they don't sell at a given price. everything has a price based on what most people are willing to pay. also, understand why louis vuitton can make billions at their price point versus why nike makes billions at its price points. resell is not the problem. counterfeit items are the problem. nike should see how chanel or louis vuitton combats fakes

Ima be completely honest with y’all I buy UAs. I’m sick and tired of taking Ls on snrks and I don’t trust private sellers. The only thing I hate is when ppl sell UAs as real. That’s some shady shit.
Alot of people don't remember but man I remember when tonywild , scoop , jeerzy deep, niolinares were all replica heads. That movement made a hard push back in the day. It died down when the sellers started scamming though. Nio also went to jail but it was a wild ride back in the day.
I love your videos! I have thought about getting certain kicks at times but would look at your video on them before purchasing. You always keep it real too! Keep up the great work!
Reps over pay resell and pocketing resellers. Reps are excellent nowadays, same quality same materials. Save money and be smart. Invest your money to other things and just buy reps. No one can tell 6ft away on feet. Nike fault for making it limited and not making available for all of us. Hype shoes cost over $500 average.
If I miss out on the retail release, I will just do without the shoe. 9 times out of 10, I just take the money that I was going to spend with that company and spend it with another company
I love the way you presented this. It is a problem, but like you said I can’t be mad at anyone because at the end on the day it’s their money they are spending
