This child Leia is the most dislikeable little asshole I've ever seen. What an utterly ridiculous take on a beloved character. Completely unrealistic and exaggerated, with awful humour shoehorned in. The scene of the kidnappers "chasing" her is actually the worst thing I've ever seen. They are running at walking speed.

I have mixed feelings about the chase scene. It went on too long. But as an adult and parent who has run down a lot of kids, they can be pretty fast and agile. Unless there is immediate danger to the child, the easiest thing is to jog until they burn themselves out and run themselves into a corner. This also works on rabbits, cats, dogs, pigs, deer, raccoon, etc.

Bail should not even get Obi-Wan or any Jedi he knew to rescue Leia, ever. Consider this, the daughter of an Imperial Senator was kidnapped. That's a big deal, and it stands to reason that he would send the army or contract out bounty hunters to get Leia back. There's nothing suspicious about that. Having Kenobi rescue her becomes self-incriminating. Why would a wanted man suddenly risk everything to rescue her? How does he know she was kidnapped within days of the incident, presumably such news hasn't even leaked out of the palace? How does Kenobi intend to return Leia if it was some random rescue? These questions aren't that hard to think of, and the answers further implicate the Organas with traitorous Jedi. This is different from the beginning of A New Hope. Leia was caught by Imperials on a ship last spotted in the theft of the Death Star plans. But in this child kidnapping attempt, the Imperials could happily offer assistance, especially since the kidnapping was never sanctioned.

Yeah, one reason the original SW was timeless is that they didn't shove in 1970s things, which was trendy to do in films at the time. Like the music- most films were using "modern" popular music; having a full orchestral score was unusual. Plus, when they were influenced by politics, they worked it in seamlessly. There were many political issues that were the same then as they are today...except they were actually new then, rather than as we have now, with people pretending that the last 50 years didn't happen.

What 2022 politics are shoved into this show?

What I find annoying about is it’s not even politics but bad propaganda nobody believes. Most of the “real-world issues” they push is just a straight-up lie that falls apart under the tiniest bit of scrutiny. Which just goes to show they have no idea what they are talking about and why people like entertainment. Combine that with “products” that have no long term value in terms of rewatch value and we got the worst era of entertainment.

The Legends novel Kenobi did this right. It's about Kenobi dealing with his PTSD and a small plot involving a moisture farmer and his family terrorizing people by pretending to be tuskins. And it took place only 1 year after ROTS, not 10, when such a story would make sense. Was it necessary? No. Was it a decent and emotional story about moving on from traumatic events and second chances? Yes.

Leia falling and Kenobi catching her with the force and revealing himself is ripped out of Jedi Fallen Order, Cal saves his friend the same way and the inquisitors catch on to him because of it.

I actually think it's common with these shows. I did it with Doctor Show and Wheel of Time, others did it with Halo. You go back to the original work to cleanse your palette and watch something of quality again. Works a treat.

You can't even get the originals on DVD now. You have to go to...unofficial...downloads do get the pre-Special Edition versions of these movies.

(Assuming, of course, they didn't find some new way to f*ck it up somehow.) * There were actually several versions of Star Wars with minor variations pre-Special Edition. Ideally, all of those versions could be included but any of them would be acceptable.

To be honest I've been like that with quite a few things recently. All the roasting that Cowboy Bebop received from RU-vidrs prompted me to get the original anime. All the negativity towards the Rings of Power series made me finally buy The Hobbit and Lord of the Rigs novels. I remember after suffering through Falvon and the Winter Soldier I decided to watch the 70s and 90s Captain America movies. Oh and the recent stuff with Reed Richard's made me get the 90s Fantastic Four movie on bluray. The crap they're churning out really does help you realise how good the originals are.

You do know that droids are sentient and have feelings in Star Wars, right? Even the first Star Wars films, R2 and C3PO are shown to express cockiness, fear, worry and frustration. Well... as best as a robot can express those emotions. Droids can have autonomy in Star Wars.

In fairness, I thought it was weird when Amidala thanks R2D2 in TPM but I assume it was George's clunky efforts at putting in fan service. New viewers not having seen Ep 4-6 would have no idea who R2 was, but it was pretty bad writing then. Disney though has taken it up a notch and injected idealogy into it. This a manufacturered storyline to have Obi-Wan and Leia have some sort of personal relationship because Luke and Obi-Wan had one in the originals. Yes I only watched episode 1 for this review as I didn't want to taint this review with future knowledge. But I do talk about that in my upcoming episode 2 review because that plot hole is MASSIVE. They could TRY and say she only could sense him after he stared using the force again. But even in that case, why didn't she just read the mind of the villager at the same time. As we found out she had that power in episode 2 too lmao.

@@lordlossize The big reveal that REEEEva says to Obi Wan at the end of episode 2 is supposed to be a big moment but Disney Star Wars fans forget that in Revenge of the Sith, Obi Wan and Yoda witnessed Anakin's attack on the Temple and his meeting with Palpatine telling him to "Rise Lord Vader" so Obi Wan already knows Darth Vader is Anakin, that's a plothole. I have no idea how they are going to explain how REEEEva out of all other more powerful Inquisitors finds out that Vader is Anakin. Vader would kill anyone who found that out about him.

@@Vertical_Horizons actually Kenobi only didn’t know vader/anakin was alive. He knew Anakin became Darth Vader through the hologram message. But he thought he killed him and left him for dead on mustafar which is why he was surprised to find out he survived. Bare in mind obi-wan has been in exile for 10 years at this point with not much contact with anything outside of Tatooine. However I do agree with your second point, Reva should not know that Vader is Anakin.

@@bacongaming7828 A giant armored man/machine that's second to the Emperor called Darth Vader is a dead giveaway and would have been spoken about among everyone in the galaxy since Darth Vader is second in command of the Empire. Obi Wan would have heard of this so I can't buy that his isolation was total without overhearing people and Holonet News talk about Darth Vader.

@@Vertical_Horizons I do get what you mean, but do bare in mind tatooine is an outer rim planet with little imperial presence there as it is controlled by the Hutts. We haven’t had much indication to show that Obi-wan has really had much contact with anyone. But you are correct at the same time, it can be likely obi-wan may have heard of Darth Vader after their duel.

Somewhere in the multiverse is a timeline where they didn't and Star Wars is still good. Nowhere in the multiverse did Disney buy it and make this show good.

It comes off as amateurish try-hard bad villain wannabe instead of a cold calculating killer that we have come to associate Siths with. The open disrespect for the other inquisitors, the eye rolling way she projects intimidation through threats that don't make sense. And most egregious of all, the ungodly awkward cringey tone she adopts when trying to coax Obi-wan out of hiding at the cargo port. 10 years of obsession and rage against this Jedi and you start talking like you're playing hide and seek? "Obi waaaan" what's next? "Where are youuuuu"? So cringe. I felt like I was watching a drug dealer from The Wire, instead of a sophisticated, calculating and methodical killer like count dooku or darth sidious.
