👋 Is it worth upgrading to the newest generation R35 Nissan GTR? After 4 years owning my 2014 GTR, should I sell it and buy the newer 2017+ R35 GTR? Todays lets take my friends brand new to him 2017 Nissan GTR R35 for a spin and drive it back to back with my car! Not only are we going to compare the 2014 to the 2017 GTR and how the different generations compare, but we'll also test out how a bone stock GTR drives compared to my full bolt on R35 GTR! For sure the modifications in my car make it so much faster. I get so used to the power in my car that I forget how it was back in the stock days. Loved seeing how much more refined the transmission is for the newer R35 GTR is. Very smooth shifts that are noticeable quicker and less slop in the slow speeds. The new GTR is more forgiving as a daily driver. My 2014 GTR has more slop in the gears and is a bit slower to change gears. And slow speed clunks a bit more. The modification and tuning on the GTR makes such a noticeable difference too. SO much more top end in a FBO R35 than stock. I love it! The full exhaust sounds amazing in m y car too. The active valve in the 2017 and up GTR doesn't seem to do much. So of course mods will wake it up. For the pricing you can expect to pay about $105k for the new gen GTR in todays market on the low end, whereas I can sell mine for about $85k. So for $20k more you do get a better car with more revisions and refinements. Nicer interior and sharper looks. It's well worth it and maybe one day when the time comes I'll sway my beloved GTR for a newer body style R35! We'll see what happens if an R36 Nissan GTR comes out ;) 🏎

i bought an 18 FBO E85 track edition in april 2021 and i love it so much. yeah, its clunky and not fun on bad roads but every time i think about selling it (for a profit in this market) i just cant seem to pull the trigger. its just the best bang for your buck. appreciate your videos, been watching them years before i bought one!

I do love mine the way it sits for sure! If a Bayside Blue one came up for the right price. That’d be enough for me to want to upgrade. Aside from that, when the time comes to sell mine I’ll have to see if I swap for a newer one or not. I love mine!

Very nice content and candid comparison. 👍👍👏 I personally prefer previous gen. I like the 'old school' rawness and especially the noise she makes LOL 🤭 Plus, I love grey on GTR and dotted LED taillights vs. Halow LEDS.

I have to admit that I've been a GTR purist all these years until watching your videos. Now you have me thinking about going in a different direction. You've done amazing things to your car. Are there any ways the modifications have reduced the reliability and longevity of your car? That handbuilt drivetrain is a beautiful piece of art that I would want to preserve.

Honestly I've never had 1 single issue with my car. All the mods have made it more fun to drive and it hasn't changed any aspect of the normal driving. I'm sure if I only ran E85 and launched the car all the time, something would break. But I rarely launch the car and most of the time I use normal gas. So I really don't see any issues coming up. Really comes down to having a reliable tune and not beating on the car

I've never done a back to back. But the GTR is a much faster car then any of the Camaros. Twice the cost to tho lol Glad you enjoyed the video!

Great video!! You mentioned that an upgraded midpipe and larger intakes with a tune will get you that extra pull at higher speeds and the sound. I would add that the downpipes are an important piece to the equation also, especially for the sound aspect. I have the full titanium Armytrix exhaust from midpipe to catback exhaust, but with stock catted downpipes and mine doesn’t have the sound that your GTR has.

Yeah the midpipe and intakes is a great step for sure for the people who don't want to go too crazy with mods. Adding downpipes and injectors is the next step to get even more. The downpipes really wake up the sound and especially if you have an active exhaust, the differences with valve open vs close is huge!

I’ve had a 2009 and a 2014. Deff worth the price increase for the 17+ to me. The interior has began to feel really dated on the older model and the 17+ seem to be retaining their values very well.

They all hold value pretty well, so any year is a good choice. The 2017+ does have that modern touch to really fit in todays world. I like the old school feeling tho with mine. Something about that generation I like with cars

i purchased mine 2-3 months ago. i knew i wanted a 2017+ and ended up with 2020 anniversary edition. i have 2 kids that the gtr hauls around in the back, so i needed the most comfortable and refined one.

I'm sure it was a slip of the tongue but you're looking at the 2nd and 3rd iterations. CBA, DBA, refresh of the DBA that people refer to as the EBA

Yeah technically you’re right. But in my mind the 2017 was when they did the biggest upgrade since the interior is much sofas is the front and rear end. Also from 2009-2016, every year for tweaked. I think 2017 and up is all identical. But you are correct technically speaking

@@BrosFOURRSpeed actually in 2012 between the CBA and the DBA is the biggest changes. They changed the entire fuel management from the CBA package to the DBA package. They also added the DRLs and revamped the front and rear trims. They also upgraded the turbo inlets getting rid of a factory restriction and bumping the HP 45 hp.

Can't really tell a whole lot of difference in them other than a few changes to the interior. Haven't seen a GTR like this because that color is insane in the membrane 😄

Three years ago a bought my 2017 GTR with only 5300 miles on. Currently they are going for about 130k+ with 30k miles on them. i dont think its the right time to buy just yet. Great video love seen all your content on the GTR and the R8. Keep doing what you two are doing and keep moving forward.

I had a FBO 09 and swapped it to a 2017 Gunmetal with Rakuda Tan (orange) interior. After having the 09 for 6 years out of which it was 5 years FBO ai decided to keep the 2017 stock. Just slapped a Midpipe and a Set Of Brixton forged on it. I'll keep it stock because FBO the car never drove right in stop and go traffic although I swapped tuners 3 times.

Did you have any tuning on the 09 for the transmission? My car drives exactly the same as it did bone stock. So I havent lost any of that. I do like the more refinements in the 2017+. I can see just a midpipe with intakes and stage 2 tune being a great setup for that to keep it more chill but very quick

I'm nt sure what I like better to be honest. I think both have their benefits. I had them on the Supra and had no complaints. Being aluminum is much nicer then plastic tho

That's awesome! If you thinking about it, Do it, return everything back to stock :) grab some of the parts and slap it on 2017! BUT I think IF I Ever own 2017! GTR the only thing I would do to it! is Turbo Swap, Tune, and Midpipe and call it a day! and its plenty FAST! Rest be just exterior pieces and wheels of course! Even 2017 has not bad looking wheels so just suspension! I guess!

Yeah if and when the time comes, I can swap over all the parts. I have all my stock parts from mine. So would be a great way to go! These make a ton of power! You do have to remove the engine to swap turbos, so a midpipe, intakes and tune is probably a better way to go. lol

If that's what you want to do, that'd give you some top end! But even just doing downpipes and injectors with flex fuel will give you a ton of power for much less. Endless options

What did your friend pay for his 2017? How many miles were/are on it? The GT-R market is crazy!! Great comparison video.....I just finished my 3" intakes and have the y-pipe in the garage ready to install to get to that stage 2 tune.

I don’t know exacts. But he got it on the very low end with 12k miles. 1 owner car too. So while the market is crazy high he got a great deal. He could probably turn around and sell this for $120k I bet! So he got lucky

@@koolkeith8908 to my knowledge you can’t run bigger unrestricted intakes without a tune. Definitely can hear air induction. I haven’t run the car hard yet so performance is to be determined. I’m running my Cobb intakes with the stage 1+ Big SF tune. Adding a aftermarket y pipe and you can run an off the shelf stage 2 tube from Cobb.

@@spinevice7689 I drove mine for about a month with full exhaust, intakes, arm fuel pumps with no problem before getting it tuned. I put the injectors in right before getting it tuned-I’m sure that could cause an issue.

@@spinevice7689 yeah you’ll need the stage 2 tune to run 3in intakes. 2.75in intakes won’t require a tune

I kept going back and forth on trading up for a 17'+ but like you mentioned I can't justify it. I'd be paying almost 30k+ for essentially the same car. I paid a slight premium as I bought mine at the beginning of the price hike and still have equity considering where prices have topped now. I do prefer the exterior cosmetic enhancements of the 17+ but I'll just do a bumper conversion and call it a day. I rather put the 30k+ into performance modifications rather than spend that plus the upgrade cost which would just be a ridiculous amount at that point for an R35. To each their own 🤷‍♂️

Yeah I like the new car a ton. But it'd be a lot of money to swap into one. For that I can put a healthy down payment on the new Z lol. Bumper swaps could be a cool idea. When I bought mine, the 2017 was only like $10k or so more. If that was the case I'd be more interested

The 2017 looks much aggressive & they have refined it even more. Some few bolt ons & a tune will do the job. I am surprised when you told the steering on the 17 was much lighter, beacuse both cars have hydraulic steering & Nissan has refined that too. Plus the orange looks awesome. Consider going orange for the next GT-R

I thinking they tuned the newer car to be lighter to make it more comfortable to drive. I feel like the suspension also was a tad softer. So it got the refinements and lost some of the hard core aspects. I do like the newer look and interior. But I like the heavier steering better. That orange was very nice! If a Bayside blue one ever comes up at a good deal, that's what I'd do

I have considered that car. Two years ago and last year I looked and found some around $115k. But now they are all over $130k +. If the market chills back down I could maybe see one at some point. Those are very fast and pretty cool to drive. But I have other cars on the radar for the next 5 years. So we’ll see

Hey Bros FOURR Speed - an exhausts question for you. For a new GTR would would cause it not to pass inspection? So if I get downpipes and a Y-pipe will I pass? The Boost Logic 4.5 system with new downpipes will it pass vehicle inspection?? Basically do i have to have a cataylic convertor on it or will catted mid pipes suffice??

Depends on your state and tuning. If your tune deletes the codes for cats you can still pass if your state only does OBD2 for emissions. If they visually check, or put a sensor in the tail pipe, you might fail. So depends if you know a shop too, to help you out

I think u should go on buying the 2017 model because it looks more cooler and has a lot of new feature’s.the descion is up to you if u want to sell the 2014 or just keep it,like I said it’s ur decision If u ask me I would prefer u to get the 2017 gtr

The exhaust valve switch helps to make cold starts half as loud to not wake up neighbors etc. It only sends exhaust gasses thru one side of the muffler as well. Otherwise, it's mostly useless.

Oh wow. That seems useless since it’s so quite in the stock form. Not much louder then a normal car on the cold start. I wonder if it makes a good difference if you add a midpipe

I have just done a dba to eba gtr upgrade. I love all the modern touches....however, i hate the light steering. I want my heavy dba steering back. It lacks communication. I need to do something about it as i cant see me pushing this one as hard as the dba as i cant read what its doing

Yeah I've heard maybe 2019 and up has that light steering? I didn't seem to notice a difference with his 2017. But I can see what you mean! We just bought a 2024 Audi RS3 and the steering is super electronic. Love the old school cars with heavy steering!

@BrosFOURRSpeed this is a 2018 uk model no idea if it was different over your end, but I can feel a massive difference. Though my dba was running on larger width tyres and lower profile. Where as the 2018 is still on stock size tyres, so I do wonder if that has anything to do with it too. It surprises me that you couldn't feel any difference, makes me want to dig further into this to figure out what's different

would it be possible to put the 2017 steering wheel on the 2012 gtr? i just turned 23 i have a decent job i guess, 3k a month, looking to save all 2023 to put a downpayment for one! 🙏🏼

Oh sweet! I would assume so. However I'm not sure if all of the plugs would be interchangeable. Might have to check some forums to see. But you can get some sweet custom steering wheels made for under $1k and have carbon fiber or custom leather/alcantara colors

I’d be curious if you could notice any difference between my FBO vs yours 🤔 I have a spicy AMS performance alpha 7. My turbos are pretty taxed out at 685whp on E. Was able to crack off a 9.83 on a no prep track!

The resale prices on GTR are really good, I can probably sell an older GTR for more than purchase amount if I had one. The newest GTR models cost around 130 to 150K USD in FL, getting expensive but the experience is still so good!

If you're ready to spent again for a couple of mods sure why not upgrade to a new one. But in my opinion I gotta say I'll stick with the old one same engine minimal differences just some better looking exterior and some more features. Probably, I think you should stick with your old one and wait for the new-engined "Godzilla" to be released in few more years. I really am sad to know that there are more cars evolving, getting faster like the 911 turbo s the 992 its crazy fast. Wait Nissan to pull the trigger and lets see how many can it kill on the future 😁😁😁.

Yeah I don’t see me selling mine for a newer one any time soon. Unless a Bayside blue one comes up for a heck of a deal. I won’t be doing anything. I’ll have mine for a few more years and then once we know if an R36 is coming, I’ll see what makes the most sense

I'm 50/50 on that. My Supra was like that and I think both setups had their pros and cons. The aluminum does look and feel much nicer then plastic tho

@@BrosFOURRSpeed I drive my 09 Gtr R35 in manual mode all the time, so when you Turning right or left you can grab second gear, if the paddles are on the column . For track driving the paddles are better if they are on the steering wheel because most tracks don’t have 90 degree corners. I think the alfa quadrifoglio have the best paddles for street and track. Ps if you drive in auto mode, it makes no difference.

Yeah I notice the track and mountain drives the wheel mounted are very nice to keep your finger tips on the actual paddle. But around town it can get confusing if your wheel is upside down.

That’s a cool spec! When I bought mine the 2017s were about $10k more. I couldn’t quite stretch for that. Now these are over $100k. But mines at least going for $85k. But the gap is larger

@@BrosFOURRSpeed my buddy has a 2017 and the Interior is nicer for sure, same with the updated front and rear bumper, other than that his car feels softer and it makes the same rattles lol, his radio did go bad twice and he also had his transmission rebuilt recently from a broken fork, he's fbo 93oct same as me

@@BrosFOURRSpeedthe 2017+ does have the paddles mounted on the steering wheel, and the cabin road noise is a little less, other than that the suspension feels softer even in R mode, also the 2017+ will be losing the app support for GPS and other features since 3g won't be available after March

2017 and newer seem to be all the same. 2009-2016, every year they made some slight revisions. But I think once they hit 2017 they left it the same

Our monthly views are about the same as always. But less then 1% of our subscribers watch our videos. Looks like less then 15% even see a video of ours pop up. So for some reason RU-vid screws us on that. So our views add up over time. We don’t get the instant subscriber views like others.

But I’m not that interested in getting rid of it anyhow, especially not enough to return back to stock. I did put my deposit down for the Z, though 😎.

Honestly I can’t justify the price. You’re laying double the money just to have carbon fiber and a more track focused car. These Premium trims are already such aggressive daily drivers, the Nismo would be uncomfortable. And you don’t get any more power or speed. I’ll buy a Lambo before a Nismo GTR 😅

@@BrosFOURRSpeed not true. Nismo's are completely different animals. You should take a review from an owner. There is a reason why they cost that much. Also FBO E85 Nismos put down 700 to 750 whp.

Yeah I'm sure there are a ton of differences that you can feel. But stock they make the same power and 0-60. I feel like for me I won't get double the fun for double the cost. Impressive they can make another 100hp on E85 tho vs the Premiums

@@BrosFOURRSpeed not really. Stock for stock, they do not make same power. For example your 2014 stock makes 545 hp. Nismo stock makes 600 hp, on top of that is lighter with carbon bits. Also 0-60 is different. Nismo is faster. Stock nismos trap 10.8-10.9 @ 127-128 mph on a good day. Stock base GT-Rs are not getting those results.

They are both the same generation overall. R35. Technically yes this is the 3rd version. But 09 to 16 are just mechanical differences really. This is the first R35 to get a real change thats more visually noticeable. And price point on the used market, 2017+ is drastically more then 2016-
