Really solid guide! Although I would personally never take scourge reaver legplates as they are unholy bis and you can get aldriana and set legplates but that's personal choice I guess. For all guys blood tap canceling can be good and bad so use if you know why you are using it :P
Made these lists with the intention of not going any leather just because I find it easier to fight for gear with your Unholy, Frost, and sometimes Warrior or Paladin rather than all of them as well as your Ferals, Rogues, and sometimes Hunters. Of course you're probably not going to get the first Scourge Reaver's Legplates. As you said they're Unholy BiS but you shouldn't need to until Glorenzelg. The swap is because that weapon just has way too much expertise and dropping it for other stats is just better.
@@Willixson I understand but you're also simming with t10 hc gloves which is quite unrealistic, well even sanctified gloves is a bit unrealistic beucase in true bis you are not wearing gloves, so unless you have hyper luck in voa you will not have sanctified gloves. And you shouldn't really grief raid with taking 5 normal marks and 5 hc.
mate you’d be surprised how close blood dk is in dps, this is even with dancing rune weapon being bugged, apparently in icc blood will be best dps class for dks
youre wrong about the AoE priority. you do not blood boil in this build and ignore DnD. DnD has no target cap and does more damage than blood boil for the amount of runes it uses to match DnD's throughout + the GCD expenditures from preventing u from using other abilities. Other than that, very solid guide. You can blood boil AFTER you DnD, but DnD is the priority.
The part you left out of the guide is "When does frost or blood surpass unholy so I can reroll out of this god forsaken hardcore cheese parsing, RNGesus proc based, snapshotting dingleberry spec where I use my aoe spell for everything?" If you can add that section, I'll forward this to my raid lead and guild master so we can start the paperwork with Human Resources.
I think the sad answer is "never." People have been saying each phase that "AP will make frost overtake unholy next tier," and it's yet to even be close to true. Enhancement shamans by and large pump comparably to both blood and frost, and more importantly provide both of their unique buffs in one package + bloodlust. So much as I wish it wasn't the case, unholy's here to stay since it's hard to make the case for not playing unholy when your token bloodluster's providing the other 2 specs' raid buffs.
frost and blood will 100% overtake unholy and enhancement in ST by quite a bit i imagine but unholy and enhancement will still retain their value throughout a big portion of ICC not just because it will take time for blood and frost to get gear but also because of their superior utility and better cleave (although there really isnt much cleave in icc)
I would guess 2/3 morbidity is more valuable bcs it scales with sudden doom, but does it? I mean death coil is not just a filler, since its got a chance to proc with every heartstrike (dacning rune weapon heartstrikes can proc death coil too), i mean blood dk is basically a heart strike spammer so the death coil procs alot even without actually spending runic power on them, so i would say that morbidity scales good with this mechanic, but im not sure if morbidity scales all death coils (with random procs from hearstrike included), or it adds bonus dmg only to the runic power spent deathcoils which are manually casted. Also i have question - why the cancle aura on blood tap? Ive watched some Incandenza blood dps videos and it seems like hes keeping the buff.
Great guide, good old times when DK was actually a fantastic class to play. Nowadays it's alot different. In my book mainly cause blood became tank and they changed the way Death Strike works

Nice guide, thanks for the content! I have a few questions, do we actually prio ourselves for frenzy? Or does that grief our raid's overall dps by not giving to a feral or fury war? If so, would the 2nd blood dps frenzy themself? Or 3rd? (Assuming 1 feral, 1 fury) Is DRW actually fixed in the game currently? Or that still being worked on?
Jokingly I would say yes you're prio, but realistically there's more to that question than a binary yes or no. In a vacuum you'd use it on your Feral or Fury 100% of the time to see the highest results. Most likely the feral. BUT that's assuming they're playing really well AND they're not already getting one from your blood tank since you can't stack them so you having casted it on yourself during your cooldowns and trinket procs will more than likely be more than you casting on your feral/fury after their procs and cooldowns have faded. You can check how much physical damage you and your allies are doing in warcraft logs (since frenzy is only a physical damage increase) by going to the damage done tab and at the top right above the timeline in the "filter expression" box type "ability.type=1". You can also select and highlight portions of the fight by click and dragging on the timeline so you can select the start of fights with bloodlust only rather than the entire encounter. You'll have to subtract frenzy's damage from your DPS numbers though because the bonus damage is applied to your DPS on logs. The question of if it's "grief" comes down to personal opinion. At how much DPS loss do you consider it grief to cast it on yourself. 100 DPS? 500? that's for you to decide. If you're the top physical DPS during bloodlust then obviously it is actually optimal for you to cast it on yourself. Keep in mind though if you open up fights with bloodboil spam (anub) you will probably never want to cast it on yourself since bloodboil is shadow damage so you're seeing no benefit. For DRW bugfixes yes most of them are in the game. The ones that aren't (and probably won't be) are DRW healing aggro, diseases resisting after DRW expires, and the first hit doing minimum base damage. The latter two are systemic issues that extend further than just DRW so they would have to fundamentally alter how the game works at its core and it just not something they should bother with for what would amount to be maybe a 50 - 100 DPS increase. The former probably could and should have been fixed but they just didn't and I don't see them going back to change it.
for some reason I don't fully understand my diseases aren't going up to 20 seconds like yours. It just stops at 15, is there a reason for this or just some bug?
Bryntroll is a very good weapon and is what I'm going to be rocking until any Heroic LKs or Shadowmourne. Warmace of Menethil Heroic from 10 mans is better than Bryntroll but that also means you're killing heroic 10 man LK. Then if you can make use of the Hit from Heroic Cryptmaker that's also a good option

That's something I should have mentioned that was entirely optional. In theory it shouldn't matter, but in practice for me it does. It's something I started personally doing very recently. If you notice in the background footage I'm not doing it. I started using a cancel aura because if you don't, after you empower and use your first heartstrike into bloodtap, that left blood rune will stay a death rune so the game will prioritize the right blood rune then the left one. Then when your blood runes come back the game will use the right rune then the left one because the right one came up first. Normally that wouldn't be an issue BUT and I'm not sure if this is just my UI not displaying my runes properly or if this is for everyone. If I then use that right rune then try and blood tap it just turns my left rune, that was up anyways, into a death rune so I basically just did nothing. if I wait and use blood tap after using both runes it reactivates the one I just used (left rune) not the right rune so the right rune has had time to recharge while I added an extra 1.5 seconds to the left one. so after like 2 blood taps it creates a weird gap I didn't like between the two runes. I hope I explained that well enough. You can see this for yourself on a dummy and trying to use blood tap with the cancel aura or not (you will have to be sitting there hitting it for a minute for your blood tap to refresh). I might make an unlisted video for it just to show what I'm talking about.
Shadowed Unit Frames with the Rune Bar turned on. I've been meaning to turn it off since it doesn't work properly all the time. The other, bigger runes are actually just Sarthe's DK weakaura package with everything other than the runes deleted
get rid of your enhc shamans :D so you can be the one who brings the must needed 10% ap boost for all brown and yellow boys, plus you can play the sacrificed lamb for "downgrading" to blood insted of playing unholy and get some bonus points later on to be considered for shadowmourn
as a raid lead who has been convinced - it's a mentality thing. if they're hard on unholy, find other Unholys, and/or push the question as much as you can without being insistent. you can bait them with "maybe blood does more damage in ICC", but if you're in an optimized raid setting, blood won't be on their mind. for me, it's either my best DK player was miserable, or I had to find more Unholy DKs. I went with option 2.
My best friend is die hard blood dk he consistently is top dps in TOC in a geared group he beats afflic locks all other dks and a chad ret pally in 25 and 10
Shadowed Unit Frames is what I'm using for my group's, target's, and my frame, WeaponSwingTimer that's just a holdover from when I played Arms in TBC, Details for the meters and threat, Plater for the enemy HP bars, NameplateSCT for the combat text, and everything else is a WeakAura.
Why play Blood and grief your raid though especially in TOGC. Look at a fight like Jaraxxus. The highest Unholy according to WOL does 15k on HM while the highest Blood DPS just breaks 11k. That's a HUGE gap.
The biggest reason why is because it's fun. I like the archetype of healing from doing damage, but I don't really like to tank so I play this. It's also disingenuous for you to say 15K for unholy and "just breaks 11K" for blood on Jaraxxus. When in reality, at the time of this comment, the top DPS for unholy is 14,457 and blood DPS is 11,871. That's a difference of 2586 DPS. Now hypothetically if that top unholy were to have played blood instead and performed well. we can assume he would have lost around the same personal DPS and that personal DPS loss is only around 1.03% of his raid's total DPS. If 1.03% raid DPS is the difference between you killing or not killing a boss you have bigger problems in your raid. As well if 2586 DPS in this scenario is "grief" and the boss taking maybe at worst 3 seconds longer is a deal breaker then that's your opinion. At the end of the day something a grey as this being "grief" comes down to a matter of opinion. Some people think that just clearing the content is good enough so it doesn't matter how you do it. Others want to clear it as fast and efficiently as possible. If you're the latter you're obviously not going to bring blood DPS nor should they. Different strokes for different folks. I and the other people who play it don't care about meter topping or playing "the best" spec. They just want to play something they find fun and at the end of the day isn't that why we play video games?

The top parse is unholy, Júmanji Luna - Gehennas (EU) 251ilvl 14,859.3dps. After 826 parses you have the first non-unholy dk, frost, Sludgedk who - Faerlina (US) 246ilvl 12,519.9dps. The first blood DK is ranked 4160 (!) Manfoodle Despair - Benediction (US) 250ilvl 11,404.7dp. The gap is collosal.
@@Willixson If everyone had the same way of thinking as you do, people would do tenths of thousands of dps less as a whole raid. You're kind of a liability to the raid due to your way of thinking and try incredibly hard to weasel out of it.
@@ashrasmun1 I would much rather have him in my raids than someone with your general attitude. What kind of elitist nonsense are you even spouting criticising someone for playing a GAME to have FUN. Unholy parses quite a bit higher than both blood and frost right now, but it does so by using cheese snapshotting in burst phases. Outside of those burst phases it is dire, and you just sit there using your diseases and morb off cd. The only fun to be had in that spec is to look at a big number on an external damage meter, or to link your "mates" to your Warcraft logs page where you had a good parse a few weeks back so you can show people just how super amazing you are. I would wager that you still parse poorly even when trying to sweat it out on an S+ tier spec.
@@Danen3 there's better choices that net higher results. Just because something is able to be done, does not mean it is efficient, and a blood dps is objectively inefficient.
half the specs in the game are "objectively inefficient" given that. why doesn't every guild bring only the raid buffs/debuffs they need and then fill the remaining slots with 10-15 unholys?

sure, no ones arguing blood > unholy, but unholy is better than just about everything. but there's 0 reason to bring anything other than unholy dks/aff locks outside of it's unique buff/debuff. and no one outside of hardcore guilds is taking that many unholys. blood is a perfectly serviceable spec, like many of the others you see in raid. not as good as unholy, but nothing is
