On the absolute coldest night of the year…we had a surprise!
Dairy cows are extremely different from beef cows and are treated accordingly. Jersey dairy cows are not a very “hardy” breed…so it left us in a very difficult and unexpected situation.

Ot believe how fast the last 4 years have gone. You have come so far and learnt so much on you lifestyle block. He would have been fine in the barn. I use to work on Dairy farms in New Zealand and we calved over winter 1500 cows. Often below zero over night. They are hardier than you think. As long as the are up and moving and drinking. Best thing is a thick pure wool calf blanket to keep them warm.

you guys should try those cow ear warmers! sew a sock shut, then cut a hole in the middle of the sock! you can even put hand warmers in there. And try a dog coat!

Hi Phil and Alex Aww am delighted to see this new born calf. Mother and baby are doing well. The new born is well looked after by mom and human parents in a warm environment. However he was taken to the house to dry his coat out properly Much love and respect from across the pond in Uk x

congratulations! the calf is beautiful ❤ but i had to chuckle. 🤭 when I saw you guys so bundled up I thought it had to be doo cold, like -25 or something. silly me!! See I am Canadian and from Alberta. cold here means -25 😂 it was recently-40 plus a windchill of -52!! but lately it has been like spring to us, only -2 at night and about 5 above in the days. 😂 so watching you guys made me chuckle (all in fun and meant well) and I am glad you guys survived 😊 hope buttercup and her baby are well ❤

@@bathanytucker2701 it was very risky and the calf could have died from the freezing temperatures before they got to him. They shouldn’t have had the poor cow inseminated knowing that the calf would be born in winter, and that they didn’t have proper shelter.
