@@edgar6051 Why would i if i can get even a freaking KIA which will be far more capable? A freaking KIA Stinger will smoke any 535d. Im not even talking about Tesla. BMWs are buttom feeders cars atm. Same as other ICE cars.
@@banksmartlyI'd get the 530d, more reliable but you still need a new timing chain under preventable maintenance at 120k. Most of the time a timing chain rattle is caused by a worn out tensioner
The highest mile beamer I ever saw was in a dealership I worked at in 2022. 2007 BMW 3 series. It had around 460,000 miles on it. You can tell bits and pieces of the interior were replaced. According to receiving and sales, they stated this was the original engine and transmission (turbo was replaced at some point. But timely maintenance was key). I got the full story from the sales rep: The owner had taken excellent care of the car, having to do a few DIY stuff to it. He was the third owner and the previous owner had a job that he traveled a lot, so the car mostly got driven around the US. He received it around the 300K~. He drove it up until he graduated and got a good job, he drove off with a 2018 BMW 5 Series. Signs of rust were all over the car, the interior was stiff, cracked, chipped, worn. New pieces mixed with old. The third owner said the biggest issue he had was when the second blower motor went out and being a college student who couldn't afford the costly maintenance of taking out the entire dash. He hired a friend who simply put a new blower motor in, but broke the connector. The connector was then rewired to a switch and the battery, where if you flicked the three throw switch you would get low, medium or high speeds. The car went to wholesale and was sold to a Buy Here Pay Here guy from Ohio at auction. I believe if IIRC it sold for around $3500. We all gathered around to marvel at such a rare sight. The second owner you could see he did replace bits and bobs here and there. The manual even had dates and what work was done in the notes section. I can guarantee if you take care of something and do the work yourself. Its probably not that bad. Looking for a diesel 3 series here in the US. I'm still a few months out from trading my current car so we will see what happens.
I’ve had my 2011 bmw 5 series for over 6 years now done just over 140.000miles and still going strong . I love to upgrade but finding it hard to let it go
My younger brother got a 528i for his first car bout a year ago. Now has 130k miles on it and runs pretty good. Feel like the suspension could use a refresh but if you take care of these they tend to run great over time. Hope he ends up getting an M like me when he’s old enough lol. Bmw is a life long love story. 😂😄
@@dariuslewis9320 haha i was doing some research after the comment i made and i agree you are correct👍😀 how is the m5 engine reliability? Was it always better or even worse or what is the situation?
Love them, just can't get away with the placement of the speed readout. Always had to crane my neck down to look behind the wheel at the needle. A digital one in the center would have been great
Do you have cruise control? Where you have the LIM button, on the F30 it has the ‘Set’ button to set the cruise control speed. It’s different on the F10 with a speed limiter button
Yes it's definently worth it!! My f31 318d n47n is on 220k miles, and pull alright still on stage 1 tune. And the interior is till great, there are some stone chips on the paint. . Howevere you should change the timing chain immeediatly. Other than that, the car as a whole is bulletproff.
they are reliable just make sure they have maintenance done prior to buying, for me all i’ve done for mine is engine mounts and all your oil gaskets and all bushing are good
I bought a high mileage E46 convertible it’s a 320ci with the 2.2 straight 6 engine on 261k miles now I’ve spent a fair bit of money on it but I think it’s been worth it the shell looks like it’s done 90k miles
Having owned a F10 for 6 years it’s definitely worth picking up a higher mileage car provided it has full and regular service history, although the 530d will be more durable than the 520d as the 3.0d engine will be less stressed over the life of the vehicle and has less reliability issues. Just remember it will cost more to repair/maintain than a Ford mondeo!!
Less stressed? Most 520d’s ended up as fleet cars sitting on the motorway at 70mph all day, they were designed to sit in 6th gear and deliver over 60mpg. The 530d will likely be more stressed as they were bought by people who wanted a bit of performance, and they were likely more aggressively driven.
It only needs replacing once if the place you take it to does the job properly. Post 2011, the chains weren’t as problematic as BMW added a technical service enhancement to the N47 which saw the issues rectified, BMW will rectify the chain issue on cars that have a full BMW service history and develop symptoms of chain failure. Most chain issues on post 2011 cars are down to user error, people seem to think they can run these cars with 20,000 miles between oil changes, BMW poorly advised customers that the service intervals were every 15,000 miles or 24 months (which ever comes first), as per usual, people try to run these cars on a shoestring budget and then wonder why the car develops problems. Stick to 8,000 mile/12 month service intervals and the engine will last, or simply buy the 530d.
If your car has a specific maintenance interval for your timing chain or guides, I would just go off that. You could probably push it a little bit further. Don't EVER go with that "if it ain't broke don't fix it" mentality when it comes to timing. Otherwise you'll probably end up replacing the engine.
@simpromedia2663 tbh my friend I do about 15000 miles a year 90% motorway my 2012 530d gives me 60mpg and that's with driving 60mph. I know if you drive quicker it drinks more but the car is so comfortable I don't want to get out😂
Love my 530d f11, but the 2.0 lump makes the f11 feel like a Mondeo performance wise. Great for practicality and economy, but is lacklustre to do the chassis credibility.
I have a work car 2017 Toyota with 260k and the interior is quite bad and steering wheel feels like cheap rubber and is all flaking off🤢 I have a 2000 e46 and e92, both with 155k and the interior is in top condition and the steering wheel is nice to hold in both so BMW can't be that bad, the ride quality is also 10x better than the new Toyota. The japonese may have done a better job with mechanical longivity but BMW is unrivalled in all other areas
I don’t get the point of getting a car this old beyond sheer nostalgia. No one outside of the car club will think you own a BMW (just the cheapest model with a big engine you could find). A brand new mainstream (non luxury) car seems way more appealing in nearly every aspect than a severely outdated odometer and infotainment system in this car. The leather seats maybe spotless but they looks like they died and came back from the underworld and the car looks like it’s been dragged 180K+ miles no matter how you want to see it. Of course with that said to each their own. All I am saying is that you’re not buying a BMW, you’re buying the perception of owning one as compensation of not being able to afford a current one.
Yes because they a very reliable car brand and never brake down what people don’t know is BMWs are actually the second most reliable car after Toyota Toyota is the most reliable then bmw
Bro FUCK NO I wouldn’t buy ANY bmw with anything over 20k miles hell no and did you hear the engine? I mean your head was right besides it it doesn’t sound good at all sounds like a ticking timing bomb quite literally
