So for anyone that cares I worked it out to be that if you buy the unit (£750) and enough cans (£70 for 24) the first 368 pints would be £5 a pint (roughly what I pay where I live) to break even the cost of the tap, then after that just buying the cans it’s £2.91 a pint! And it’s still Guinness from a can…… can’t see how this will ever be worth it!

Don't necessarily think it's intended to save money on pints, but rather to have the convenience of a tap at home.

Plus, you could get a 50L keg for approx £150-160. So you could get 5 kegs. 88 pints X 5 kegs is 440 pints.. 440 pints / £750 is about £1.70 a pint. I mean.. That's all a little extreme.. Buut. It's good value!

Hate to break the bad news but save your money and go to Dublin on a slow day when the bar staff have time to pull to perfect non pasteurised pint the cans are good but they are pasteurised for long life and yes it does affect the taste and the atmosphere in the bar does have an impact on a great time it's something that cannot by replicated even though many have tried but you can't replicate Dublin people they are the people who really make special

Got the email from Guinness about it a week or so ago. Was genuinely interested until I saw the price. Complete rip off. No way it’s worth that much. Plus, I worry about being able to get the cans. Totally useless without that. It’s a no from me. If they ever stop the cans (like the surge ones) this is a redundant piece of furniture

Good, honest review. I would suggest they aren't releasing it in Ireland due to the fact the Guinness quality control team in Ireland might not know where the systems end up if people just buy them to install in their bars/restaurants. Guinness would not want to be associated with poor quality pints in Ireland, so they've perhaps bypassed the issue by not selling in Ireland.
@adambradyryan
@adambradyryan 2 года назад
Guinness also offer free maintenance to any of their customers in Ireland, meaning their kegs will be replaced and any equipment will be cleaned by someone sent by Guinness every so often, abroad this isn't an option so they cant assure quality so this is the next best bet.

this is designed for small restaurants and commercial use. This will bomb if targeted at home users! Especially when considering for €25 you can buy a nitrosurge device and have almost pub quality pints at home. Personally i do not get any metallic taste off nitrosurge cans and god knows I've drank enough of them haha :)

A social club I work in had one installed as we don't sell enough Guinness to keep it on draught and I've used it both to serve from and had a few from it myself and it gets a thumbs down from my view point. As you said the time it takes for it to do the process of pouring takes way too long when the place is crowded and the taste isn't enough to warrant it being there. Very much a gimmick to me. It looks nice on the bar but that's about it

They definitely be giving out different pints to the Guru once he mentions his name...I was in Dublin few days ago and was waiting on a bus on Eden Quay. Decided I'd have a pint in Mulligans and Bowes and the pints were shocking. One in Mulligans was spilt all over the glass before it was given to me and the barman in Bowes was firing out pints like it was a race. No dome or anything. Genuinely think I would've poured better pints at home with the nitrosurge. Disappointing experience to say the least.

Went to Bowes twice over the summer, once when it was near empty on a midweek afternoon and the other time when it was packed to the brim on the weekend. The first time I went there the barman must have worked some magic on the pints, some sort of stout substantiation because it was the best Guinness I've ever had. The second time was fairly disappointing, nothing like the first time I went there, so I'd suggest you go there on a slow and quiet day if you care about the quality of the Guinness

I know you mention the Fizzics machine in this video, I have one, I bought the nitrosurge unit (with the nitro cans), and genuinely the nitrosurge other than that first initial sup is nowhere near as nice as a regular can through a Fizzics machine when you take it as an overall pint. I find the nitrosurge pint gets really bitter on the second half. With the regular can, crack it very slightly (or do the pin trick) and put it through the Fizzics machine and it's definitely the best at Home Guinness pint hands down. I also tried the Nitro can through the Fizzics, and it's definitely nicer than the Nitro device, but again not as nice as the regular can when you deactivate the widget by either a slight crack or pin prick

I know I'm a bit late to this but I'm considering one of the following: fizzics, microdraught or a kegerator. The fizzics is by far the cheapest option. I'd be prepared to pay extra if the pint quality was worth it. If the microdraught produced as good or almost as good a pint as a kegerator with a lot less setup and fuss then I'd probaby settle for that. If it was the case that a kegerator setup properly would produce a far superior pint to either then I guess it would be worth the hassle and price. Any input from anyone?

Price of the machine is high but as you say alot of work has gone In to the design and build of it so that's understandable. But this would only be worth it if it meant you could Have pub quality draught for the price of the usual cans(if you get them on offer in supermarkets in UK they are often £1 a can or even slightly less) but at £3.40 a can I'd rather go and support my local social club and drink there. And for pubs and restaurants to use this wouldn't be financially viable, once they paid there alcohol tax on the can they would have to charge £7 a pint or more so be worth selling.. Also there is the very real possibility that because of the price of its not popular it will be discontinued in a few years and the cans won't be available

For how much Guinness sales must have suffered with pubs being closed and over the years with smoking bans and pubs being too expensive, so people drink at home more. You'd think they'd almost give these things away to encourage people to buy the overpriced cans for it. If the people into Guinness enough to watch RU-vid channels about the stuff are saying the price is bonkers then they'll sell FK all!

I prefer guinness original in cans or even better ,bottles...its better for slower drinking in the house.

When the hardware is so costly why not make the software ( guinness ) a fairer price

Would be good for the places where they don’t sell much like wedding venues or golf clubs. Speed doesn’t matter here as the bars aren’t as busy. Certainly worth a try.

Has anyone tried using a nitrosurge unit on the new micro draught cans?

yes i have and its no use at all. The microdraught tap pierces a hole in the top of the can & bottom for it to pour. Great pint from the tap even though its from a can. Id say slightly better than the nitrosurge but definetly not worth the price tag imho.
