Will it BURGER? We turn a nuisance raccoon into a delicious meal using only wild ingredients including bear fat, yarrow, maple sugar, and wild leeks.
I am joined by Jeremy (One Wildcrafter) who is only eating wild food for a whole year!
Jeremy: / @onewildcrafter
Woodobo Spice: www.fowlersmakeryandmischief....
To learn how to degland a raccoon, be sure to Join the channel for the uncensored link: / @thewoodedbeardsman
Cutting boards by Adam Craig: www.inthestickswoodworking.com/
To catch wild raccoon in a live trap you need to think about bait first. Use anything that has a strong odor such as fish like tuna or salmon, sardins or even fresh fish. Raccoon are scavengers and are not trap shy, if there is food near them, they will investigate.
Use a good live trap with a quality latch mechanism that operates under relatively easy sensitivity. A quality trap will be reflected in the price you pay for it. The latch and the size of the wires will tell you if it's a good trap or not. Get a good one, as these will last a lifetime easily!
Most life traps run around $100-$250 and you can often find them on sale near the end of the fall. I own 5 live traps and can catch anything from a squirrel to a small coyote. Get various traps, but make sure you use the right size for the animal you want to get. Big raccoon can weight up to 50 pounds, so don't get the smallest trap.
Raccoon carry all kinds of nasty parasites and their feces is particularly nasty so use gloves when handling them.
To clean raccoon you need to understand where the glands are located. Find them in the front armpits, the rear leg in the join fold and along the tongue in 3 pairs to make 6. I have an unlisted video available for members of the channel to see these get removed.
We grinding up the raccoon meat and made really tasty burgers combined with wild spices. Raccoon meat is becoming one of my favourites!
The fat quality of the meat is great and if you get a big fall raccoon, you can also render the fat out of them for cooking as I did with my bear.
You might not think raccoon is edible, but we have learned over the years that raccoon, when properly cleaned and de-glanded, tastes really great.

You are literally killing and eating animals just for money. There is nothing to learn anymore because you've practically already covered everything. You are not respecting nature when you're just killing animals and eating them just so that you can make money for yourself. You would talk about respecting nature and all that, but now, you are just killing cold blood. It is all just for money and you won't stop because the money is good. So don't go and tell everyone about how much you "respect" nature, because from this point on, it is just killing for yourself and your greed for money.

Y'all are so correct and I've stated this for years, about folks being so far removed from the processing of the foods they eat. Even something as simple as eggs. Hand someone a fresh egg with poop on it and they gag at the thought of eating one. We have become too sterile from nature.

I really liked the way you addressed killing the animal, you made a lot of great points that were very respectful and true. Especially when you point out that the benefit of being a human predator is that you can reduce the suffering of your prey. Life in the ecosystem is brutal and most predators don't give their prey that benefit.

I've followed Jeremy ever since he started one wildcrafter and follow Delphanie on Instagram. I love what they're doing. I hunt, fish and trap for most of my meat, and have a pretty big garden as well. Almost literally the only reason I go to the store is to get foods for my two girls (and the animals of course) but those two are starting to come around to eating the same things that I do. They love venison and most fish but they're pallet is expanding. Yay!

almost 30% of the world still uses those table top manual grinders.. for everything including really fine spinach griding..so about 1 KG of spinach grounded down from that comes to 1 handful of spinach..and its very very fine... but not enough for 1 person 1 time meal. plus if your doing off-grid stuff.. those manual machines come handy alot. where did the raccoon skin go? Suggestion.. now that its almost summer.. you should quickly add framed mesh skirting to your cabin...but add a crawl space door with locks to one of the end..usually at the front.. so who know tomorrow you might need to fit your backside (no pun intended) under the cabin..to add or clean something under the cabin.. or store stuff.. it would be useful... so the skirting should be atleast 2 feet down..from the cabin edge..and why? critters do dig down the soft surfaces to get under homes or huts or cabins..to find a cool n dark and safe space from larger wild animals. As for the Weather here.. its been going up n down.. so today.. tho the day was almost cloudy.. it was 32c. Question: am goin to post a music video link... i hope you don't mind.. but i wanted to question what this orchestric music feels like... from old syfy tv shows (which do you think it reminds you of..listen to at full 100% volume). Tho this too is a music video (Orchestra) from the anime-tv show called star gazer battleship Yamato 2202 (2017).. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-ilhzG_YqaEw.html

When are you going to finish the interior of the cabin and another thing get a broom and sweep the floor, clean the ashes off the stove, just because it a cabin doesn't mean it can't be kept clean. By the way great videos. And I agree that you show how people how to hunt and trap and what type of wild plants are edible, how to skin animals how to preserve and smoke meat, prepare food. People might learn something to help them to survive out in the wild or even to be more self sustainable.
