Unlike Naked and Afraid, ALONE, or Survivorman, there is no limit to the tools we are allowed to use. Living off just WILD foods is harder than you think!
In this episode we catch a raccoon that has been stealing our crawfish. After we catch the raccoon, we clean it quickly, then dig a hole to bury it with hot coals and flint rocks to cook it. We use cactus pads to help steam the raccoon. I remove all the hair from the raccoon with hot steam, water and heat from the fire. We cook the raccoon overnight in a hangi or earth oven until it is fall off the bone tender! Cleaning the raccoon like this helps keeps all the flavor and fat, just like people would have done traditionally.
We hunt FERAL hog too!
We fish for catfish, alligator gar, long nose gar and drum, crawfish, crawdads, or yabbies, ghost shrimp, bluegill, rio grande perch, armored catfish, flathead catfish, blue catfish, alligator, freshwater clams, leopard Frog.
All wild foods are on the menu!
We seek out wild edibles including prickly pear cactus pads or nopal, cactus fruit or tuna, wild onions, mulberries, wild grape, Texas persimmons, pecan and anacua, mulberry, tasajillo, turks cap, yucca pods, cats briar, oion, chili pequin, duck weed, ground cherries, desert hackberry.

As a teen, I spent every summer in high-school traveling all over Texas and New Mexico . I'm blessed to have been born a Natural marksman. My first rifle was a Marlin Model 39a. .22 L.R. I hunted rattlesnakes nearly every day. Never brought one single one home to cook. I was frequently asked why not. My reply was "Hey, coyotes gotta eat too". I fed whole packs I'm sure. I fired at least 100 rounds every day. In Henrietta TX. They were absolutely infested. The hardware store owner gave me all the free CCI MiniMags I wanted. Seems the whole town heard about this kid from Kentucky. I had a ball in Texas. Fire ants and all. Appropriately named. Gotta try rattlesnake some day. Maybe do a recipe for them. You get to bite them.

You can tell that's flint by the yellowish color, and the sound they make when you tap them together. The high-pitch click they make indicates they are hard as glass. A third indicator would be to break them. The interior will be crystalline, much darker, and almost translucent.
