Not everyone can afford the money to do full height cabinets, and builder always go cheap. Besides, all builders need to do is make it pretty looking and that'll sell the house.
Yes. Thank you! Although it felt like the cabinets made the biggest difference, it was a full kitchen renovation! Check out the full coverage over on my instagram if your interested!
Awesome job, love that you added more cabinet space above! I personally love the all white kitchen look, it brightens the space and makes it look bigger and clean. My kitchen is all white and honestly is not that hard to keep clean like some people might think.
Thank you! I completely agree. The added space is nice and it feels more custom to have them go all the way to the ceiling. Plus just like you said, the all white just feels clean. All of the cabinets doors are a high quality 3D laminate construction and they clean super easy!
Thank you! Unfortunately I don't have a RU-vid video on this. If you can overlook my cringy voice over, here's the link to my IG Reel where I showed building it 😅 instagram.com/reel/CjYIg5GN5Ss/?igsh=MzRlODBiNWFlZA==
So beautiful and glad that I came across your short as I am also creating a second layer of cabinets. I love that you created a face frame to cover top and bottom uppers cohesively!! 👏🏾👏🏾 Definitely going to do that!!
Ahh, just watched the full video. You used bondo to get that seamless look. I was going to use wood filler like you stated. Awesome job because it certainly looked like a face frame on screen. Thanks for the tip!!
Soooo much more storage and nice that you get to keep the functionality of the kitchen almost everyday of the reno yet looks like a totally new kitchen.
Wow what a difference some good old paint can do. And the added cabinets and brown molding took it over the top! Love this! I refaced an older kitchen a few years ago. Totally updated the whole apartment. And was incredibly simple. I didn’t even use our spray gun I rolled and hand painted. Looked great still.
Your Crown moulding is like icing on a yummy Bundt cake! Painting by hanging looks better and there are sets you can buy that make it so much easier than wire hanger etc. IMO, kitchen was nice in the BEFORE shot, but I live in a old farm house 🤪
Very nice. I just finished spraying (ben moore) all my doors (removed) and brushed the jambs, ca knockdown ceilings, room addition laundryroom. I’m tired (retired). You done a GREAT job! I will watch your video. What paint/sprayer did you use?
Yes I would but at 50 dollars per door (not including hardware, shipping or tax) I would try painting first because many can be saved cheaply but with a little more work. Seems like a great thing to consider if they can't be painted because replacing whole cabinets is quite expensive. Just my thoughts on it
I don’t see why not! As long as they are in decent sturdy condition. I just made a full length RU-vid video describing the process if you want to know more 👍
@@melaniesears5783 true, but believe it or not, I actually decided to bump out the whole wall of cabinets and now there’s a 3” air gap behind the fridge and all the cabinets. I’m not worried 👍
Hi. Looks good, but I have an important question. Will the existing French cleats or whatever attachment hardware that was originally there be strong enough to support the extra weight - cabinets, and whatever you load into them?! I've seen a couple of these type renos now, and I keep thinking about the fully loaded cabinets crashing down to the counter or the ground. Could hurt - a lot.
Well I thought it looked fine before, but hey if your guy is willing to do all that work then go ahead on i say, my husband would've been like, oh it's fine the way it is lol kudos to this guy! 👍
Thank you! The before kitchen was 20 years old so things were starting to show their age(up close there were a lot of things the camera didn’t show) so since I have the skills to do it I decided to renovate! 👊
@@randomdiyguy I love, love , love it! I want that exact thing for me! I would love to add the second cabinets on top & add the crown molding! The crown milding makes it look sooo expensive. I'd like to add a paint job by "THE GREAT KACHA"!
Just wonder the extra cabinet on top u install. Where u buy them that doesn't come with the door, cause home depot only sale the one that come with the door only.
Hey everyone!!! Quick question I've found that a good paint job on cabinets only lasts a good 5 years max before you see scratches in high traffic areas and cabinets faces. Sometimes a year or two before things start showing. What are everyone's experiences on cabinet painting longevity?
I would have just added the upper cabinets and trim and gotten doors that matched the old ones. Sand and paint. I do love the look of the frosted glass used in those cabinets. I would have used that for all of the upper cabinets.
Thank you! My original plan was to match the old cabinet doors for the uppers, but the old doors were laminate and we weren't happy with the color. Decided we like the true white and simpler doors. Also debated doing the glass on all the uppers, but didn't feel like our kitchen was big enough for it. 👍
@@randomdiyguy that totally makes sense. I want to diy our kitchen but I think I'm gonna do the upper cabinets with colored frosted glass or get some colored glass from old window panels... I haven't decided which style I want yet
