Visit the favelas of other states , but not Rio. The favelas of Rio are very dangerous and shootouts between police and criminals happens very often. The other states rarely have this amount of dangerous in their favelas. I live in the hood in the state of São Paulo and it is safe and without shootouts and armed criminals.

I stayed at Sao Conrado this year, yea Gustavo is correct about it being a nice beach and safe. Definitely better than the hustle and bustle of Copacobana. Barra Di Tijuca beach is supposedly a really good beach as well.

The amazing thing about Rio is this: the poorest of the poor live way up on the hills and, despite their miserable living conditions, at least have the best possible view of the city's sights and the sea. The millionaires in Rio live in close proximity to the entrance of the favelas, just 2-5 kilometers (1.2-3.1 miles) away. It is quite incredible compared to other hotspots in North America or Europe, for example, in terms of the contrast.

he was saying "são conrado", it's the neighborhood of Rio that Rocinha is a part of (and the name of that beach). the "ão" is pronounced kind of like "ow" and "on" at the same time, but instead of making the N with your tongue, it's a "throat N" where you push the back of your tongue against the back of your mouth. like if you can make an "nnnnn" sound with your mouth wide open.

Callum go to Recreio dos bandirantes a very safe neighbourhood of Rio de janeiro next to the posh Barra da tijuca neighbourhood. Most Tourists only talk about copacabana. Barra da tijuca is the place to be too.

I would absolutely live there my life in usa is so depressing and hopeless it's horrific! I would rather hear gunshots everyday than family members threatening me with lawyers. I went to Rio this year during carnival and I will come in 2024 if I have to walk or swim there!

Gustavo mentioned a few times” the government doesn’t care about us” maybe if those people start paying taxes, land tax, water, electricity, internet etc etc etc they might do something for you! I am Brazilian, and the sad part is, those people don’t pay any tax causing the middle class to suffer! Someone has to pay it!!! Gringos going up and “showing” their life style is not doing any favour, apart from supporting those drug dealers!!
