what does dramatic flick mean, like good style or just a better flick?
@Ohgreatcj.
@Ohgreatcj. 3 года назад
@@joshmolina6528 dramatic meaning a bit faster and a little less control sometimes. If you see a good pair of vulcanized shoes, then go for it. If you’re used to skating cup soles then just expect to change up your skating a bit. Nothing bad. I recently bought me some Kyle walker pros because I want to give vulcanized shoes another shot. My advice: Go with what feels right for you. Personally, I love cup soles for the protection.

Honestly I enjoy the flick on cupsoles more than on vulc shoes. Idk I just feel like when I'm doing it on a cupsole, since the suede is the part of the shoe that is flicking, it feels so much more precise and more controlled. On a vulc you have this big rubber part that makes my flicks more inconsistent. That rubber kinda separates my foot from the board, but when you are flicking with the suede part it feels like your actual toe is doing the flick which makes it more controlled. Also, that rubber on the vulcs wears out super fast for me, and I absolutely hate that my kickflips feel some way one week and they feel completely different the next week because the rubber wore out which makes the flick feel different.

board feel - The bottom/outsole of vulcs is more flexible, meaning you're going to feel a lot more through the shoe. Stiffness/break-in time - cup soles are all one piece and they're carved instead of melted into shape, so generally they're going to stay stiffer longer and take more time to break in (I say generally, because eS is ridiculously soft).
@elcamaleon97

landing protection coulda been covered too. Landing primo in vulc (vans specifically) is genuinely painful in comparison to cup soles
@austinshore7538
@austinshore7538 3 года назад
vulc shoes are baked in an oven, which makes the rubber compound softer, so the material grips not and feels more broken in off the bat. where cup shoes are not and are given a thicker mid sole most of the time.
@the_crusty_ledge
@the_crusty_ledge 3 года назад
The biggest difference is a Cup sole shoe is built and can have more padding in the outsole, which makes it more stable protecting your ankle/knee joints, not to mention protecting the small bones and muscles in your feet . A vulc is cooked and the only way to add padding is with an insole and they lack real structure and support. . I've skated on and off over 30 years. Vulc shoes will destroy your feet over time and you end up standing on a thicker insole which isn't good on your arches. Now that is somewhat my opinion. . but my feet at this point can't handle a vulc shoe for more than 1 hour and a cup sole I can skate in all day at 41 years old.
@colinhawks2469
@colinhawks2469 3 года назад
Another thing to consider is also the quality of vulc because not all vulcs are created equally. The same is true for cupsoles but arguably to a lesser extent. For example, Vans vulc (which gets all floppy rather quickly) vs Nike SB Shane vulc (which holds its form very well and doesn’t get all floppy). Thin and floppy vulc tends to leave feet hurting...lemon drop!

Vulc is more flimsy and wears down faster, but feels broken in much faster, and have better board feel. Cupsoles are stiffer and take longer to break in but last longer and are better for large drops.

If your foot sits higher or lower on a shoe has nothing to do with the shoe being cupsole or vulc.This has to do only with the padding of the sole and the insole. Usually your foot sits lower on vulcs as the sole is made from a thinner layer and usually the insoles are not that thick(there are exceptions of course).For that reason(your foot sitting lower) we say that with vulc we are having better boardfeel. Cupsoles include usually more tech and indeed the foot sits higher than in vulcs.With cups you have better cushion and a bit less boardfeel although nowadays materials have improved a lot. For the flick, in vulcs, due to this extra layer of thermoplastic material, your toes are sitting 2-3 cm back from the edge of the shoe and this can affect your foot positioning when doing flip tricks.With cupsoles, flip tricks are usually more in point as your toes are closer to the edge of the shoe and as a result there is a more accurate flick.

All I know is (and what honestly confuses me most) is that when I went from Nike Bruin SB’s (vulc), to eS accel slims (cupsole)… the NIKE’S HAD INFINITELY BETTER IMPACT SUPPORT with a bouncy rubber outsole and a zoom insole. Maybe the eS shoes are just poorly made now since they’re resurgence, but I couldn’t believe how much pain the accels caused and how thin they were compared to the sole of the Nike bruins. 🤷‍♂️ On a different note, I just wish the Tiago 1010’s had better grip and ball of foot support… because that shoe would be pretty perfect otherwise. And it’s not nearly as bulky as I thought it would be from photos online. PS: Christian PLEASE release your signature insole 🙏 otherwise I may consider the FP insole for whatever next shoe I go for… maybe Etnies marana 🙏

I love how cupsole shoes provide a lot more comfort and support. I'd probably say I am not a fan of vulc shoes for that reason. But at the same time I can't deny they tend to flick ever so slightly easier. And they're also less durable than the cupsole shoes IMHO. So yeah, that's like 3 pros versus 1 pro basically. Some of the thinner cupsoles shoes, like Adidas Liberty Cup and Adidas 3st.004 still have an amazing flick. The Liberty Cup maybe isn't super durable, but I'd gladly get those shoes again if they wear down. So far my favourite shoes though are the eS Accel OG (probably would love the Accel Slims better, but haven't tried them) and the Etnies Joslin 1 (a bit hit or miss when it comes to the flick if my foot isn't angled properly; ie. takes some getting used to). To be fair though, the eS Accel OG kind of require a more 'brute force' flick if you know what I mean. Something like Vans 112 Pros take much less effort to flip a board with. But to flimsy.

Vulc sole - heat compressed giving it a very flexible, grippy sole. Have more board feel, easier for tech skaters. Cup sole - cold concrete compressed mold. Gives the sole more structure and impact protection. Great for gnarly gap or big stair set skaters.

Your foot actually sits higher on a cupsole than vulc. Vulc has literally rubber stacked with insole foam then maybe padding. Been skating almost 20 years now (I’m about to turn 26) and I bought my *first* ever pair of Vans to skate in a few months ago, sk8-hi’s! I was super pumped to get ‘em because obviously everyone LOVE vans, but personally I was super disappointed in them and now that they’re falling apart I’m looking for alternatives. Probably another pair of Lakai’s but I’m also looking at Fallen again! I couldn’t put my finger on why I’m so unhappy with the vans until now. I’ve been trying to explain to ppl that I feel like I’m standing on top of the shoe as opposed to in it and I now realize that I’ve skated cupsoles my entire life. They say vulcs have better board feel but only on the top of your foot in my experience, which is not necessarily where I want to be feeling anything 🤦🏻‍♂️ Not only that but my feet are also dead after even just an hour of skating. Not comfortable, not enough feel where I want it, and I also feel that waffle pattern is maybe even TOO sticky for my taste. I do love the classic look of a pair of vans though and they’ll continue to be in my wardrobe, just not for skating. Wish I had videos like this back in the day!

I like them both but I usually prefer vulc. Sometimes I get cupsole shoes that I can skate properly right after wearing them first time (like Nike slip-on Janoski which I skated for like 4 months and stopped skating them last weekend and they are awesome), sometimes it takes 2 weeks just for me to get used to them (happens to me with pretty much all the Vans Pro cupsoles). When I get a new pair of Cons 1star or any Lakai vulc I know they are gonna kickflip just the way I like it right out of the box. But hey, I'm old and I skate mostly ledges, flatbars, transitions. If I were 15 years younger and still jumping down stuff that's higher than my waist I d probably go cupsole all the way.
