I used to love this song. Nowadays, I listen to people talk about how they hate each other. Please stop. It is depressing and hurtful. Why can’t people see how talking down to others causes pain?
Jennifer Scott I didn’t realize it was a different person on the album until recently - I bought the album for this song. Hard to believe I didn’t notice until I heard Nik that they’re different. This sounds odd to me now.
Me too. I feel pretty ignorant as I didn't know it was a cover. Nik has gone on to have many of his songs recorded by other people so... swings and roundabouts.
I'm sorry, but John Hughes knew music! I'm sure he wouldn't of added onto the soundtrack if he didn't like it. I'm sure he liked both versions. This one stands out, too!
What? This is the only version I heard of this song in the ‘80s when a friend gave me the soundtrack. And when I heard the original in recent years (& that that other version WAS the original) I was most disappointed. While I’ll give you that the original’s instrumentation is more rock ‘n roll or arguably better sounding, it’s vocal sounds like a songwriter’s guide vocal for the star who’ll sing it & make it a hit. Haha. Her vocal blows HIS out of the park. if you took this vocal, & put it on the original track, then you’d really have something! Besides, Kershaw gets the publishing royalties anyway, so what’s there to bitch about? There’s a practical zombie apocalypse going out there w/ this covid 19 stuff, anyway! Everybody, keep yourselves & your communities safe.
@@trevorgolding9200 Danny Hutton is not a “her.” He was (and is again currently) one of the vocalists in Three Dog Night. That being said, I love both versions but I believe Nik Kershaw’s original recording was what was actually in the movie.
@@ebkesq72 I never thought that HE was but to me the vocal sounds ambiguous if not feminine (which I don’t mean as an insult) & since the song’s credited to Danny Hutton’s Hitters (a band & not Danny Hutton solo), I thought that someone other than the bandleader might have been the singer-like in the J. Geils Band e.g. And I don’t know DH’s voice anyway, so I’ll defer to your knowledge./And while I don’t remember which version is in the movie itself, I know that THIS is the recording that’s on the soundtrack. Once again, it’s a GREAT SONG.
I love this song no matter who covers it, BUT I sure can't understand why they didn't use Nick Kershaw. I love his voice and the video that goes with this song.

This album was awesome even though my sister broke my tape of Rockwell and I destroyed her Pretty in Pink I still feel bad about it and miss her to this day
I agree but I feel that there aren't many of us that feel the same way! I have always loved this version better! Although I have to give Nik Kershaw a thumbs up because the video from the 80's was awesome!
Just found out about this song from watching Live Aid concert videos. I was at Live Aid in Philly, going through loops & found this from the London portion being performed by Nik Kershaw. I then looked him up, lived the 80's but don't remember him. Then looked up Danny based on Wiki page. This version is 80's Ballard worthy for sure! Both are 80's classic worthy even if they are new to me.

as a person who works in the music industry, I like both versions!!! maybe nick Kershaw's a little more, but they are both very good!!! This whole pretty in Pink soundtrack was excellent!!! I used to have it on vinyl and cassette!!!
I had it on vinyl - for this song. Didn’t know it was different until recently - looking up Howard Jones and found a duet of him and Nik on this song - it’s GOOD.
Maybe an unpopular opinion but I loved Blaine. I think he got caught up in peer pressure but in the end he realized that his peers were wrong. At the prom he let her know his true feelings for her in front of everyone and as Duckie said he came alone. Duckie was adorable too but she loved him like a brother. Personally I think it would've been weird to have Andie all of a sudden be in love with Duckie when she never showed any romantic interest in him. People just wanted the underdog to win but they forget that Andie was the underdog in this film too and she got her man in the end. It was sad to see Duckie get his heart broken but it happens. People fall in love with people who don't feel the same way. Andie and Blaine both felt the same way about eachother so the end made perfect sense to me.
This version is far superior to the Nik Kershaw version. The instrumental just slaps with 80s rock crunch! The tempo is slightly faster which eliminates the plodding of the original. And that vocal! THAT VOCAL! this is from the era of bands like Journey, Survivor, and Boston. That high belting male rock vocal was so in at the time and sets this song right up there with the greatest male rock shouters of the era!
This is the song that I associate with this movie; Nik K. can sing this song a trillion times & it would not do nothing to me. I lost my copy of this soundtrack. I saw this movie then & this version is very sentimental to me being a “wave” 80s teen. Andrew & Molly were great then...& now✌🏼👩🏻🦰

The guy singing, Danny Hutton, had a hit song 20 years earlier (1965) with “Roses and Rainbows,” and part of the band Three Dog Night (ask your grandparents). Like Cliff Richard. I don’t think he had a clue what mid-/80s teen/20-something angst was about.

Nik or Danny? I owned the album - I didn’t realize there was a difference until I heard this after listening to Nik - I was actually shocked when he started singing.
I never ever fight strangers, while, online. just, pointless. I have nothing against Nik Kershaw. having said this, it, just, baffles my mind when his loyal devoted fans claim' that "his version if better than this one"?! truly. to me, saying that is like saying that someone 'like' Carly Simon's version of a KISS classic; SAY.., 'DETROIT ROCK CITY".. would be better than their orig. version. just laughable. my only issue w. this version is that it isn't long enough. actually, (while, in audio/ visual school) I did make a pretty hot re-edit of this version. I got an A+ on that mix too. anyway, I've never seen Danny Hutton. or, even, his "Hitters", for that matter. lol. for all I know, he could be a 4ft. high green goblin. however!.. I do know real raw talent when I come across it. & this man 'does' have it. point blank. some, may see him as just another one hit wonder that was "given" this album soundtrack slot? this man 'has' !@#$%^&*()!@ soul (period). I really like this version but I do prefer Nik Kershaw's. I always found his to be so catchy but sad at the same time. Particularly the end of the song... but this one is good too ;)
