I just received my KG-935G and while I'm waiting on the battery to charge I thought I would express my appreciation to Randy for this wild adventure that he has taken me on. Several weeks ago I was considering dusting off the old CB radio and putting it back in service. While looking through some RU-vid videos Randy's face popped up with the subject matter of GMRS radio. After viewing the first one, 'What is GMRS?", I started binge watching more and more of his videos. Needless to say I was captivated. Up until that point I had never heard of GMRS, FRS, or MURS. I knew I was going to like Randy after watching his no nonsense approach to teaching and resistance for "complicated things". That along with a healthy dose of trolling sad hams had me hooked. So Randy, here's to you for your unique style and humor. You've created a new GMRS fan. I hope my meager contribution to your channel helps to keep you in business for years to come. Your efforts are appreciated. And now that the green light has come on the charger, I gotta go 😁😎😄
Alright, I’ve binge watched most of your radio videos over the Memorial Day weekend and I just ordered one of these tonight. Your content is so impressive, and you’ve made me confident in my ability to successfully navigate the GMRS world. Thanks for all you do!
Thanks Randy! I bought two and I have received and tested them a bit. I am very pleased with mine as well. It would be nice to see a video on antennas covering what we might want as radio users under different circumstances and whether the longer ones make a real difference. Also if you have a favorite. If you already have such a video and I missed it, apologies.
Thanks for all the info you provide. Your videos have helped me make a decision on where I’m going to start with GMRS radios. You’ve also helped me set my sights on a better radio after I get comfortable with my first set of “starter” radios. I’m still overwhelmed with all of the info surrounding gmrs but at least now I know where I want to start so I can learn more “hands on”. Keep up the good work, I appreciate the help your videos have given me.
I placed my order for this radio Friday (8/27/21) and those guys at BTWR had it shipped out in less than an hour. 👍 This is EXACTLY what I've been waiting for, living in the coastal plains of NC, I need the NOAA weather alerts for disaster preparedness. I can tune in to VHF marine radio chatter and whatever else is on FM above 136 Mhz, plus the KG-935G features a 76.02-108MHz commercial broadcast FM Radio. Thanks for the review Randy, and glad I could beat the rush. 😁
I just upgraded to this radio from my UV-82. Wow this is so much nicer. I'm glad I bought. Thank You for the excellent intro video! I have simplex tx/rx'd 26.5 miles.
I bought one. My collection of handheld GMRS radios is growing. As your favorite viewer, I want to say Thanks for the great videos. I love GMRS. I have a great repeater near me, so I can have really good range when needed. After demonstrating the repeater, my sister picked up a couple of 905G.
Nice to see some manufacturers embracing GMRS. Looks like Wouxun made a good radio. Imma gonna get one. I have plenty of amateur HTs but nothing I like really dedicated to GMRS has come out until now.
Only radio reviewer I enjoy watching. The only one that knows the value of my time, the importance of the first 10 seconds, and the likelihood I will not only like but lust after the KG-935G.
I feel so special every time you say you made this video for me. FYI for ya- I had my wife, who is chinese, say the company name, she said it looks like: Woo-shoon, or Wu-shoon. 🤙🏽🤙🏽🤙🏽
I just got the confirmation email with my GMRS call sign. Now its time to jump down the rabbit hole of GMRS, here we go!!! The KG-935g and KG-1000G are gonna be my first 2 radio's. Excited!!
This is totally a GMRS version of the KG-UV8H. Which by the way, I really think is a great entry level full duplex V+U amateur radio. I use it all the time in the backcountry in CO. 73 W0TRL
Just placed my order for this using your Affiliate Link (found in the description below) 👍 Out of stock on backorder. Now all I need to do is to watch out for Sad Ham advice 🤣
When I first saw this, I was mad. I have four KG-905's already and thought, "just my luck". They come out with a better radio and now I wish I had waited. While this is a neat looking radio, has listening capabilities beyond what my 905's will do, etc, in retrospect I believe I already have the best radios (for me at least). While the 935 has a neat color screen, receives VHF, decodes inversion scrambling, and more, I like that my 905 has a super heterodyne reciever which the 935 does not. This should give me better, less noisy, reception. Overall, I really like my 905's in that they are great for GMRS two-way comms. I don't really want or need the extra receive capabilities of the 935. There are only three negatives with the 905 that I wish they would change. Those include not being able to adjust the display light intensity, which is blinding at night in a vehicle, tone scan only scans a few seconds before turning off, and the volume could be louder, but as was explained to me by BTWR staff, the waterproofing reduces the receive audio. None are deal killers for me, just places where improvement could be made. I do want to purchase the longer antenna found on the 935 for my 905's.
Good recommendation on the 935 and just received one to augment the UV5X set I have. The 5X's are now for handout to people without radios on our trips and the quality build / improved RX/TX clarity of the 935 is very noticeable! All good radios with each model having a place in my adventures.
Thank you for the great review. I'm new to the GMRS and I have just received my License. I have ordered the KG-935G for my first radio, again thank you for the great review that made my decision on what radio to get easy.
Ordered mine over a month ago and just go the notification it has shipped today.....along with my new KG-1000G. Thanks for the great information on your channel.
Great radio. I bought one because of this video. The first radio I could fully program with just the keypad! It was as easy to program as Randy said it was. 👍👍
Was going to purchase the KG-1000G for the SXS for trail coms but decided to purchase this one! Will use it both in my truck for highway coms and the SXS and it’s IP 66 rating will work great for the type riding we do. I know it will have its limitations for mountain riding but we’ll make due!
Hi Randy, I recently discovered your channel, and I equally recently began watching too many of your videos! Love it! Keep up the good work. Your affiliate links below will very soon push me towards a 905/UV9/935 as soon as I make my mind up, as well as understand this dichotomy of supply and demand!
I am looking at purchasing this radio as an addition to my Wouxon KG-1000G. Always enjoy your reviews. Would like to see less unboxing and more coverage of the function and radio in action. I am still new to GMRS and learning repeater input, etc. Thanks again. Look forward to future reviews from Southern Illinois.
Look at my words. I’m sure you can tell these are my happy words, cause I have a new radio. I not only like my new radio, I lust for my new radio cause Randy said I would … and I do! My KG-935G is the best handheld GMRS I have, cause Randy said it would be … and it is! Distance, clarity, heft, beauty, … pause … while I wipe drool. In all sincerity, this is one great radio. It even does DTMF tones, and I don’t even know what they are. Randy, please don’t find a better radio!
Another great review. I couldn't resist the color screen (and other more important features) and ordered one of these. Thanks for taking the guessworks out of GMRS.
I just subbed last week after finding your channel. I was all set to purchase the Baofeng UV-9G you showed off 2-3 weeks ago. NOW you show me this darn thing!? Seriously, if you could own just one handheld, between the two, which one would it be?
I have the 905 and am happy with it. Superhet receiver on the 905 vs direct conversion on the 935 will make for a less noisy receiver on the 905. If there are things of great importance to you on VHF or FM broadcast, you might prefer the 935.
Great review of a great radio. However, I think I will stick with my KG-905G. It is simpler, and a superheterodyne radio. (And I only got it a week ago!)
The test is trying to maneuver through the FCC website, not a test for the license! I made it through the website for a friend which was hair pulling pain. I am glad that I only have to go to the website one more time for my license.
This radio does not use a superhet circuit, rather a DC type. Your thoughts on whether this is an upgrade or a cost savings thing. Due to cost, would probably be the sole purchase in my lifetime. Thank you.
Hi Randy! Another great vid and review/demo. I just pulled the trigger on this radio and knew I could count on you and your channel for some truthful feedback. So thanks for that. I’m pretty excited to get this radio up and running. I’ve been using the UV-5G radios and wanted to try something different. I’m not too far away from your location in SoCal, and would love to recruit your expertise in setting my new toy up once I receive it. If willing, maybe we could meet up on a local Jeep trail in the County and chat? If not, all good. I’d like to get set up on your repeater and a few other local ones if possible. Any assistance would, of course, be greatly appreciated, Sir! Again, awesome vid, and thank you for all you do for the folks getting in to the GMRS community!
Just ordered this radio, backordered of course. Brand new to GMRS, but these videos, this channel specifically, has been great to watch and will help me understand my new radio when I receive it. It makes it easier to watch when dickheads get called out. Makes my day better! Keep up the great content!
I agree, this channel is great. It is the main reason I decided to renew my GMRS license and get back on that band. I've made some great contacts already. It has been a lot of fun. Dare I say, it's much more fun than ham, where someone is there to school you on something every time you key up. I can't wait to get this radio.
Well, I just ordered mine from BTWR, and can't wait to get it. WELL I'M VERY HAPPY SO FAR. BUT ONE CRAZY THING. ALL OF THE CHANNELS THAT I GET, INCLUDING WEATHER, WERE COMING IN VERY RASPY OR NOT AT ALL. SO I TOOK THE ANTENNA OFF MY BOAFENG 8H, AND PUT IT ON MY NEW WOUXUN AND STATIC CLEARED RIGHT UP. COULD I HAVE RECEIVED A FAULT OR INCORRECT ANTENNA?
Hi Randy, I decided to order one and try it out. Hope to recieve it tomorrow 6-23-22. Also have the new uv9gx on order as well. Keep up the great videos.
@@mrbyamile6973 Thank God, You are an Inspiration. I'll be the little train I think I can, I think I can. Yeah the governmental organized crime unit called fcc even states that No One can Own a Frequency. So that means the fcc can Not tell you to stop talking on Free Airways.
I find the videos very helpful, Randy. I recently purchased a pair of Wouxum KG-935G at Two Way Radio and received them last Friday, Feb. 25, 2022 and when I opened the box to try them out, one of the radios is hard to turn on and to control volume. I wanted to know if anyone else has had this problem? I contacted Two Way Radio and spoke with Rob this morning. He had asked me to return the radio if I thought there was a problem. Now I have to pay to ship the radio back and be without a second radio.
@@TheNotaRubicon I tried to buy this radio from Two Way Radio back in January. The first one I got from them was defective. The radio kept warning me that the battery was low when in fact it was fully charged. I sent the radio back (at my own expense) and after waiting a couple of days after they received it, they finally sent me a new one. Well that radio was defective also. Every time I pressed the push to talk button, it would screech loud. I called the tech guy and he even heard the noise over the phone. So I sent that one back, also at my expense because the shipping label that they promised to send me never came. I won't get into the hassle that came after between me and Two Way Radio, but I' will say is that they showed me that they can't be trusted. In the end, I demanded a refund and eventually got it.. but only after I got my credit card bank involved. It's a shame because I really fell in love with this radio. I like how it felt and loved the look of it. It's too bad that this radio isn't sold on Amazon. At least with Amazon, their customer service is good. Randy, I know you have a relationship with this company and I apologize if my comment upsets you... but it is what it is. If you wish to delete this, I'm fine with that. You'll still be my favorite GMRS youtuber. :)
Great radio, best gmrs unit I have seen yet for that size., other than the 7 band Version. Good video as always. I do think it is a little pricey though.
I’m so excited to get mine in the mail! I also ordered an n9tax gmrs slim Jim. I have a Nagoya 771g as well. With your help Randy, I’ve be used my uv5r to learn as much as possible over the last year and help as many other users as possible. I’m excited to finally up my gear game and get into pro gmrs territory.
2 Days till it arrives, and got work the local repeater has been upgraded now to see if I dont screw up setting up the KG-935G and getting the tones in correctly
If this radio is part 95 FCC type acceptance for GMRS. Wouxun could have added the 5 MURS channels on VHF to operate under part 95. The radio hardware is capable of both VHF/UHF operations. Software limits the transmitter to only operate on the 30 GMRS/FRS channels.
Ok take it out on a hike or something and make a video please I love this radio I ordered mine yesterday I'm like a kid at Christmas I can't even sleep lol
Love the content - Not that you care, LOL.. but one of the things I would like to see when reviews are done is how fast these radios scan through their memory channels. Maybe it's just me, but I see very few reviews by You Tube creators shows or demonstrates the "scan rate", and haven't seen this information in any manuals. Maybe if you still have a bunch of these radios, you can compare some of them in a single video... just my unsolicited input, I don't know if anyone else is interested in this information. Keep up the entertaining videos....
Well, I asked about this radio in another video and was rewarded with this video so let's try it again to prove that I am your favorite viewer. Are you going to review the Wouxun KG XS20G?
I have an 8w BaoFeng connected to a Authentic Genuine Nagoya UT-72 Super Loading Coil 19-Inch Magnetic Mount and I was testing it from my truck back to my home to a BaoFeng UV5R 8 watt at a distance of 1 and 2 miles. I was on GMRS 19. The unit in my home never even lit up. I say all this because you said you can transmit without a repeater 13 miles from your basement. What am I missing? WRNU356 BTW I'm in Florida. It's kind of flat around here. One my thing the receiving radio has a 29 Inch Foldable/Tactical Raido Antenna Walkie Talkies Dual Band UV VHF/UHF 144/430Mhz Antennas Two Way Radio Connector for Kenwood Baofeng UV-5R UV82 888S F8HP Retevis H777 by WMM (72 cm)
Where he lives, he is apparently in a high place AND there are mountain ranges all around him. He enjoys line of sight that most of us do not. That plus there are repeaters on top of mountains that give him extraordinary coverage. There are trade-offs in everything. He puts up with California taxes, politics, restrictions, and other bs, and in return he has phenominal radio coverage. Living in SC, I enjoy greater freedom but my radio coverage sucks.
Have you checked both to be on high power and both have the squelch set low enough? I have a UV5R I was playing with on the 2M ham band (listen only, no license yet) and couldn't hear a nearby repeater until I dropped the squelch way down.
as far as transmitting and receiving, they are on par with each other.. Th UV9G does more than the KG-935G but is more complicated.. IMO, the 935G is better suited for day-to-day communications, the UV9G is better for SHTF'ing ..
@@TheNotaRubicon Randy… Would you kindly provide some clarification? In watching your earlier videos, I got the impression that SOC was “bad” (inferior) and the Superheterodyne chip was “good” (better). The 935 is the new flagship HT, yet it deviates from the 805/905 with a SOC??? Was I reading the earlier vids wrong? TIA for any info you provide.
Traveling on I70 with wife in one car and me in the other how far of a reach could I expect? If only 2-3 miles I will spend the money to get two 50watt mobiles but would rather have the option of carrying the handhelds.
I used to have my gmrs license as kaf 5813 but I let it go a long time ago because this hobby was not very popular now that I see it's getting pretty popular I might go ahead and get my gmrs license again .
Hello, I enjoy your FRS/GMRS radio content. I recently purchased a KG-935G and I have other FRS/GMRS radios as well. I am a retired search and rescue volunteer in Colorado. A friend and I are developing a procedure for finding lost persons that have radios and - at least initially - we have no other info about them and want to try to use the radio to help find them. We may know their channel and subcode but want a procedure for finding their channel and subcode when we don't. We also wonder if their are good ways to DF to find their physical location or direction. I would be very interested in hearing your thoughts as well as others in this thread. Thanks!
@NotaRubicon Productions .... Could the Wouxun KG-935G be used as home base radio ? I bought it to be a companion to my MXT575 while on the trail... but instead of dropping extra $$$ , I wondered if it could pull double duty. I'm guessing if it could, I would need a "home" antenna ? or would a true base station design be much better for home use (If so, unit suggestion/antenna suggestion)? Thanks... and once again, thank you for the informative video !
I'm starting to really get the hang of using this radio. What can be suggested for an upgraded antenna. Do they make ones that are more sensative but not longer?
No joking, I got signed up with FCC a few months back and finely submitted for GMRS license and it's still $70.00. I'm starting with a recommend one from here the KG-1000G.
I just ordered (2) KG-935G from the website. When we apply first time to the FCC for a GMRS license, does the process require that our home address is published to the public just as they do for HAM licenses?
Oh wait! I thought you said it wasn't a test with the FCC. Do you know when more will be available? Are there instructions with the purchase how to contact the FCC?
I have a good question for you, Randy, I noticed that you like the radios that have the superheterodyne radio built-in to them but for some reason, you really like this one even though this does not have superheterodyne. Do you notice any difference between superheterodyne and this type of radio? I’m new to the gmrs environment, so I just figured I would ask.
Most normal people will never notice the difference.. the ONLY time I ever notice the difference is IF I drive somewhere that is near a high-power transmitter - THEN i will hear bleedover from that transmitter on the non-superhet that I wont hear at all on the SuperHet radio.
With there being so many GMRS radios on the market it's really hard to chose so I'll ask a question to all. What's a better radio and why. The KG935G or the KG-UV9GX or KG-UV9GX + ?
