@@emiliomgbih80 depends on the view of what does masculinity mean. I was also surprised when reading the upper comment, and yes, if he meant that old masculinity everyone imagines when the word is used, this music really has nothing to do with that. But I think we should go beyond and rebuild the definition, the male sex needs a purification and new meaning in the social context. Something similiar to what feminism achieved and continues on with women. I would recommend you reading Elisabeth Badinter´s (French feminist and philosopher) book XY: On Masculine Identity. after considering these things, I could say that Wovenhand do have a good sense of masculinity, especially in this video (the voice, the looks, the music...).

Heavy n dark but in a positive way......I saw them in 2020 in ATL right b4 we went full retard w/the covid thing.....afterwards I met him n was surprised to find he was a smaller humble man......but behind his eyes I could perceive the Spirit of the Living God......

I must have watched this set six or seven times now. Can't get enough. The music, the presence of DEE as night falls and the stage falls into shadow. Stunning. Wish I could have been there in person.

The chills that run through me are insane. Can this even be real? This music is the way my heart feels. Super intense in spirit so much so that truly I may spontaneously combust as from what my friends tell me happens from time to time through time. :) Putting off an old man so the new man can come alive into a yet newer creation. My God, how did I survive all these shows without exploding into fiery confetti???

Ok, I was a 16 Horsepower fan from start to finish, and was lucky enough to catch them live, and it was one of the most moving shows I’ve ever seen in my life. While I might not be the believer that he is, I very much felt the heart of his convictions, and it touched me deeply. I continued to stay connected to Wovenhand when he first started them obtaining the first few releases then eventually dropping back from following them much furter. I can appreciate an artist who experiments with his music so that it’s not always the same, but I have to admit that while I loved 16 Horsepower, a band that might’ve been a challenge to most, the further along with Wovenhand he started to become a challenge to me. A couple of years ago they came to town and I excitedly anticipated going. It was powerful, loud, but I literally felt like I was in an echo chamber for the entirety of the show never once making out a single solitary word in any song. Whatever his message was I haven’t a clue. Sure it would’ve had to have been Christian, but other than that I couldn’t begin to know. I stuck it out and with probably about 15 minutes left to the show I just bailed because I couldn’t take it anymore. The venue was small and it was so loud that it hurt. I’m listening to this show here and I’m digging it much better than when I went because I can control the volume, but I still can’t make out a word through all of the echoes. I get the haunting vibes and it’s very cool, but still the echoes man. This was recorded around the same time that I went to the show, so it’s definitely the same material. I realize that music is a matter of taste, and while this echo thing of his just might be a phase that he’s going through, I do hope that he eventually gets away from it to go on and experiment in a more different direction with more audible vocals.

I have been to 2 Woven Hand concerts. The first one was in a barn-like structure and the sound quality sucked. The experience of the concert was lost too. It was like a wall of noise with some mumbling. The second time was in a more professional setting. It was in fact more or less this section of songs. The sound quality was excellent and I could understand every word he sung. One of the best concerts I have been to. No echo and every instrument was clearly and separately hearable.

It's quite influenced by 80s goth rock - especially Fields of the Nephilim who also had a Western aesthetic - and all the reverb common to that genre.

as my watching of this concert in May 2022, for the I don't know how many is the number of times, comes to an end, Psalm 45:1 comes to mind-- "My thoughts are filled with beautiful words for the king, and I will use my voice as a writer would use pen and ink." We have witnessed that very thing in the words and music. Philippians chapter 4 continues in that vein-- "Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable-- if anything is excellent or praiseworthy-- think about such things." I sit here hand to my mouth reverently, thanking our Maker for the blessing that is these men... more than that for Him giving His Son as a ransom.

About the 24th minutes Obscura starts. It’s brilliant. It Dark, like the Doors “The End”. I’m by no means a musician, but the use the same keyboard sound, mimicking some reed instrument perhaps, as his live version of “Kingdom of Ice”. I want the lute riffs more and more.

I've seen wovenhand 4 times live and it's been incredible every time. Although I feel like a lot of crowds don't really 'get' it. I saw them at Muddy Roots and the audience was downright fucking rude. I'm not sure what they were expecting or why they reacted with such hostility but it was heartbreaking.

It's supposed to be full of reverb if you have heard the album versions. This sounds amazing to me, especially considering it's outdoors.

Check out the self-titled album which includes that song. That album has a very different vibe than this era, but it's probably my favorite one start to finish. "Story and Pictures" is just so achingly beautiful. Also don't miss "White Bird" on the Blush Music album, which is mostly reworked versions of s/t material made for a modern dance performance, however it contains several songs exclusive to that album. Mosaic, Ten Stones, and The Threshing floor are also favorites. But you should definitely check out his previous band 16 Horsepower. Amazing dark Americana.

People, can´t you tell me what kind of effect does Mr. Edwards use in the first tones of Five by five, after 8:25? To me it sounds like some sing of whales, can it be some flanger or chorus or what?

I'm not sure I even like his music... he's pretty weird. But he's definitely a very good arranger. And his timbral choices are unusual. Note he switches to a Gold Tone, 5-String Banjo (EB-5) at 13:08. Pretty smart.

Achh, no way, although I love The Cult, that's a pretty big insult to Wovenhand. Totally different bands. David Eugene Edwards is writing and crafting songs from an entirely different plane of reality than Astbury and Duffy.
