Stephanie Mills originated the roll of Dorothy in the Broadway musical of The Wiz when she was just 17 in 1975-1979! They actually wanted her to play Dorothy in the movie but then Diana Ross wanted the roll and they thought she would bring in more numbers because of her fame, so they gave it to her. Stephanie is absolutely amazing and a wonderful person, who has a son with Down Syndrome and is an incredible mother above all else, unfortunately she just never got the appreciation and flowers she’s deserved for oh so long! It’s so nice to see younger generations appreciating her❤

Her live performance is the same as the one you just reviewed. Being fortunate enough to see her in the Broadway production of “The Wiz”, the musical film version is a close second. You (and your taste) are wise beyond your years MiLady.

Hey Liz! The Fantastic Stephanie Mills, FYI she was the original from the play "THE WIZ" which I saw on a high school class trip in NY (1975) That petite young lady have the most powerful voice with perfect pitch, "that girl can sang"!! One of the best musical plays I've seen! Well my Dear you take care and stay safe! Vibe Squad Out!

If you didn't know and if i haven't said it before. She is truly one of my favorites. I saw way back in the day when she preformed in the play called The W IZ. She sang this song and this was the beginning of my love for her and her music. I believe you will enjoy this ❤.

More Stephanie, please. "Still Mine", "Put Your Body In It", "Feel The Fire", and "Keep Away Girls" are some personal favorites. A lot of her music is not available on streaming platforms or an official RU-vid channel or RU-vid or her former record label(s) is blocking her albums in the US for some reason. About "Home", this was a 1989 rendition contemporized for her R&B audience a decade after her initial Broadway run in The Wiz. She'd previously recorded the song for the 1975 Wiz cast album and a 1975 studio album. All have very different arrangements. Live video and audio of the original Broadway production of The Wiz is scarce. But there is a 1975 performance of Stephanie singing "Home" on Sammy Davis Jr.'s talk/variety show Sammy & Company that's worth checking out.

You have to see her performance of this song live on the Apollo. You will see why this little 4'9" lady is a vocal beast. If you didn't know, Stephanie Mills is the original Dorothy from the Wiz, Broadway show when she was 16 in 1976, way before the movie.

She can make the song fantastic just by the way she can sing it. "Never Knew Love Like This Before" and "Deeper" are my ABSOLUTE favorite songs by Stephanie Mills. She was on "The Breakfast Club" NYC radio show. Stephanie Mills blows me away with her vocal talent (she reminds me of Patti LaBelle), AND her personal experiences. For fans of Michael Jackson, she has a few stories about him while working with him in "The Wiz". That is one interview that qualifies on the 'Don't Miss It/Must See' category, Lizzie. You've done your hair beautifully as usual, beautiful one. Your videos have qualities that are truly appreciated, Lizzie. Keep 'em coming.
