I think you're missing a lot of the context surrounding this buyout. There hasn't been any evidence indicating individuals are buying large positions in the card to flip for profit. The vast majority of the purchases seem to have been made by Wubby's viewers buying 1 copy of the card as a joke. It's just a big meme in the community. There is no financial strength needed to hold these cards because for many of them it's the equivalent of donating on stream or buying merch. Holding isn't hard when nobody cares about a potential $20 profit. I doubt any of these cards are returning to the market.

This card was recently posted on reddit and sparked some discussions, obviously it was the art that was the talking point, not the oracle text.

Also there are only ~217K copies of each Mirage rares. 400 million card print run, best case 1 in 15 are rare so 26.6m rares spread evenly across the 110 rares. That is 242,242 copies of each one. So that is the high number, but there were also 60 card boosters that made for 3 rares for every 60 cards. That would give you 181,818 of each rare. So the truth is some where in the middle most likely. If you go half boosters and half the cards were starter decks you get 212,030. I like to slant it to a little more booster packs then starter decks. But who really knows?

The buyout does not do much in Europe, price went slightly above 5 Euros for a while. Foreign versions are cheaper. 900 copies available.

Rudy, you did troll me a bit. I did watch until the end, but when you first said foil reparations I had to go check and make sure there wasn't a from the vault printing I wasn't aware of.

As EDH is the overwhelming format these days, only cards that see at least a little play in EDH or have potential can cause a buyout. The drawing card ability is very nice in EDH games. Furthermore, the new mechanic committing a crime is the reason for its potential. The days of a 3 USD card are definitely over. There are more hidden edh treasures on the Reserved list.

All the people with a nostalgic love for old magic, are the ones who already own all the old magic. Why should new blood go after an old market? You buy what you know, and new blood likes the taste of volatility.

Foil mirage cards are way to common to collect, I only invest in foil homelands.

I think only certain high profile vintage cards are a safe bet. The cards that are iconic and will have a high demand. I know it's not MTG but I'm going in hard on base set unlimited Charizard
