You asked about the arrangement. great question, as they have a unique approach. The music comes first. it's pretty much finished before they hand it off to Maynard. He'll listen to it for a couple of weeks and then write the lyrics and vocals, inspired by the music.. Also he's a vocalist, not a lead singer. He's a 4th instrument. I hope you keep going down this rabbit hole, you won't be disappointed. I'm subbing so don't let me down lol. Spiral Out !

You need more Tool.😁♥️ It’s astonishing to me how many people don’t get even the most basic references in Tool lyrics. Or can’t understand the music cuz it’s not a generic verse, chorus, verse formula. You get it. As far as the formula… all four members are absolute fuckin MASTERS at what they do. Not only technical skill and talent but artistic creativity that is simply unmatched in music. Four dudes THAT intelligent, THAT creative and THAT unique… it’s kinda a miracle they manage to collaborate, if ya think about it. It’s my understanding that the drummer, bassist and guitarist all work out the music then hand it to Maynard for lyrics and vocals. He most often stands in the back of the stage, away from the limelight… Tool isn’t about the frontman. Maynard is just another instrument. Genius. Genius. Wings for Marie 1&2 is one of the most beautiful pieces of music ever written. As is Descending, Fear Inoculum, Lateralus…. God, they are all great. Aenema and Right In Two are straightforward, easily digestible but absolute gems, as well. Thanks for the great reaction. Here for more Tool!! 🌀Spiral out! Keep going!!

Maynard usually hits you with sarcastic snipes, humor, and wordplay in a lot of tracks. All three bands really. I'm just saying that b/cuz I saw you had a chuckle here and he goes in hard on Ænema. He's got words.

Polyrhythmic structure is the name for the juxtaposition you are talking about, one of my fav things to listen to and play (im a petrcussionist). Tool is very good at it and most of their music is structured that way. Love to see people discover Tool/their music for the first time. Do more and we’ll be here for it 🙂

46 x 2 - i agree. Or, do a long one - do Pneuma (audio) and follow with Pneuma (drum cam). Tool is usually better if you do audio only - OR - audio with lyrics. But - your channel bro, do it how you like.

I like to say that Maynard doesn't write TO the instrumentals, he writes AROUND them. That's the weaving you heard. If you focus your ear on a single instrument on subsequent listens, the song will change for you.
