My uncle, Tommy Devito, was the original band member who put it all together. He passed this year to Covid at the age of 92. The guy was an absolute character!

Not only is he still alive but is planning on a fall tour. I saw him year before last and he still sings live during his shows(with the help of a backing track). Still sounds good at 87.

Saw him too with my mom. I think he was 83 at the time. Fantastic! Yes, he is a huge icon with an amazing and distinct sound! Of course love Grease (Jay and Amber, you were or have watched the movie Grease and recently reacted to your the One That I Want by Olivia Newton-John and John Travolta). My all time favorite though is Who loves You.

All those early/mid 60s hits with the high voices,and Rag Doll is such a sad song it makes me slightly teary. Then their mid-70s comeback with songs like The Night (which I hope gets checked out as well),this one and Who Loves You (Pretty Baby)?

2.45 is when Frankie starts to sing.. He's sitting on the bar stool.. Frankie Valli and the 4 Seasons are BRILLIANT.. Have a look at 'Sherry', 'Big Girls don't Cry', 'Walk like a man', 'My Eyes Adored you' and there are so many more so many more fabulous songs to choose from.. Best wishes to you both, from Wales.

Frankie was dealing with hearing problems (that were eventually corrected) at the time they recorded this song, so he wasn't confident enough to sing lead on it. He has an amazing voice. Opus 17 (Don't You Worry 'bout Me) is one of my personal favorites of theirs.

The movie is based on the Broadway musical, “Jersey Boys “!!! Pop is a genre that is much older than this sound. Pop music is from the early 50’s. Popular songs that were hits and outside of blues, country, R&B, jazz and rock. I would argue that in fact each decade had its pop sounds by the crooners, chanteuses and the singers with the big bands and dance bands of the 20’s, 30’s and 40’s.

"Who Loves You" by Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons is in my humble opinion one of the greatest disco songs of all time. The arrangement is incredible and no one can help but dance to it. The first Beatle album ever released in the U.S. back in 1964 had Frankie Vallie and the Four Seasons on one side of the album and the Beatles on the other. This was a few months before the Beatles even came to America. The Four Seasons had already had two or three bit hits at the time. Frankie Vallie continues to tour fifty seven years later at Casinos. And he can still hit the high notes!

This song is "70s" Four seasons if you go back to 60s Four Seasons their sound is completely different but no matter what decade you choose all Four Seasons is good. Frankie Valli sings the theme for Grease as well ☺

This is a very unusual 4 Seasons hit because Frankie isn't singing lead, the drummer is. Frankie was the sound of the 4 seasons with his falsetto on most of their hits. I always admired him for serving the song, and putting his ego aside for this one.

This song is not from 1963, it is about a night in December of that year, it was released on December 1, 1975. Frankie Vallie's first record was released in 1953. "Oh What a Night" was a distinct change in sound for the Four Seasons moving them into the Disco era. They were one of few singing groups to successfully transition the eras of Doo-wop, Rock & Roll and Disco.

That "SOUND" is an electric guitar being played through a wah-wah pedal. Those pedals were used in almost every porno from the 70's as well. lol

Gerry Polci is the drummer. Frankie is the one sitting on the stool. One of a kind voice. Very distinct. Listen to Who Loves You. You should check the DVD Jersey Boys. It's Vallis story of how he began & all he went through. Great movie tons of their songs! You'd absolutely love it.

Gerry Polci later became a music teacher, and you'll see several comments on Four Seasons videos from this era, probably including this one as well as the live Midnight Special version, saying, "Hey that's my old band teacher, Mr. Polci!"

Just hearing the opening few bars of this just put a big grin on my face. It takes me back to a very specific time and place around late 1975 to early 1976, when I was out hitting the clubs and having a great time. Frankie Valli is the guy not playing any instrument on this but just singing. He also played Rusty Millio in The Sopranos. He is 87 now and still out there doing concerts. The album this track is from 'Who Loves You' is a great album that I have owned for nearly 50 years.

The Four Seasons started in the very early '60s when the sound was still '50s pop. They survived the Beatles revolution, and disco, making it to mid '70s still scoring hits like this one. Talent shines regardless of fads, but this is probably why you can hear that mix of styles.

Agreed! Just mentioned this in the comments above as the one that should definitely react to. Who loves you is definitely #1 for me! They do have so many good ones though as you mentioned. Can't Take My Eyes Off Of You is a fantastic song. Of course this is exactly what they were saying and they were accurate without knowing how different Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons can sound

This song came out in the 70's and was one of their last hits, but Frankie & the 4 Seasons had a long string of hits in the 60's. Frnkie is the guy who is sitting in the stool and singing the high parts, he is famous for his falsetto. Definitely go back to Sherry, Walk Like A Man, Rag Doll and so much more.

Their iconic songs were in the 60's, and this was a #1 hit from early 1976. They, like many others, were inspired by the style that was just beginning to blow up at the time - DISCO! Frankie Valli would later hit #1 with a solo hit, the title song to "Grease." :)

The verses were sung by the drummer Gerry Polci, the pre-chorus (starting "oh I, I got a funny feeling") is Frankie Valli, the usual lead singer, and the little bridge part (the "ball of thunder" part) by bassist Don Ciccone.

The Four Seasons span many decades, beginning back in the late 50s with doowop, then, early 60s pop, and what you just heard in this song during the disco era. Frankie is typically the lead singer, but in this song, the lead singer is the drummer, and each member got a chance to also do support lead. Frankie Valli is one of the best falsetto singers, but you didn't get to hear that in this song.

They were huge in the pre-Beatles era with a classic early-60’s Doo Wop sound combined offset by Frankie’s distinctive falsetto. They were one of the few bands of that were to remain relevant through and beyond the British Invasion. This pop song from 1975 incorporates substantial funk elements in a way that foreshadowed the incoming disco movement.

The vocals on this song are iconic. The drummer and then Frankie and the bass player they all sound incredible. This song has such an “ American 70s” sound to me. Just iconic. It came out in 1975. Disco was happening but the band had been around for many years . Their sound was 50s do-wop and pop ballads. Always great. Lots of hits. Sherry Baby, My Eyes Adored You… Check out the soundtrack and the 79? 1980? movie GREASE. The lead song features Frankie Valli.

It's terrific. You need to listen to Rag Doll which I consider their masterpiece. Fun fact: Actor Joe Pesci grew up with these guys and actually introduced members of the band to Bob Gaudio who would be a singer/songwriter for them

Amber - I googled and this is the drummer in the group with the great voice: Then they hired Gerry Polci as their new drummer-singer, and everything changed. Polci is the primary vocalist on “December, 1963 (Oh, What a Night),” the 1975 single that shot to Number One and became one of the group's most enduring songs - and arguably their biggest hit in the long run.

Since I first heard this in 6th grade back in the late 70’s this has been one of my favorite songs. It is one of those on my list of 50 songs if I had only them to listen to forever. 😁 Franki Valli is the falsetto sitting in the stool. That cool sound you heard was guitar scratching. Very prevalent in disco and disco-related songs in the late 70’s.
