The stuttering lyrics were the singer Randy Bachman mimicking his brother Gary and apparently he never meant for that to be the released recording. Also Bachman was a founding member of The Guess Who.

I heard that they were in the studio and he did the stutter as a joke, and when they went to actually record he dropped the stutter. The producer said”wait why are you doing it different now?” He said “oh we were just joking around with that” the producer told them to keep it in…. Good call

The song was originally just simple chords the band played ad lib for sound checks. The band did the standard vocals like “check one two three” to balance the audio. Randy’s brother had a stutter so Randy was initially just doing sibling teasing and made up some lines. They were all laughing and the audience loved it. Randy was very reluctant to record it, but it became a hit.

A new great song every minute And The Tv shows the movies the clothes . Tv shows The Love Boat The Jeffersons Mash Chips Dukes of Hazard Dallas Threes Company Happy days Rock Ford files , Streets of San Fransisco The Waltons , Little House on the Prairie , Hawaii five 0 ,Soap . @@safffff1000 I grew up in a house where music was not played. I found music I liked but listened from almost all genres. I personally think the late 60's barely edges out the 70's but it is a close thing. My generation listened to 80's music. And there was some really good stuff there, but I felt it took a big step back from the previous 2 decades. My children listen to just about everything. But most of their friends in school have never heard of anyone who isn't current and in the style they like. They just don't try other stuff. Sad really.

Back in high school, we called WQAM in Miami & dedicated 'Taking Care of Business' to whatever school it was that we were playing football against that coming Friday night! If you know So. Florida football, you probably know that Okeechobee lost that game! But it was ballsy back then!

B.T.O. is such a great band. Definitely do Takin’ Care Of Business next. Their most famous song and some great guitar playing on it. Also, Randy Bachman was in The Guess Who, and they had a number of great songs too.

Randy Bachman first gained fame as a member of The Guess Who, who you've only done one reaction to(I think). Together with Burton Cummings, they were a powerhouse song writing team. Check out American Woman, Hang Onto Your Live, and one of my personal favorites, Undun.

Fun fact: Randy's brother had a studder and Randy was teasing him when he practiced the song, they actually recorded it without the studder but the producer love the studder and that's the way he put it out. He like all brothers do was teasing his brother in a joking manner and not out of meanness like alot of people think.

It was the most diverse decade. Soft rock, hard rock, other kinds of rock, phenomenal R&B and disco. And the best singers, too. Didn"t know Randy Bachman was in The Guess Who. Jay and Amber you need to revisit them. Do American Woman (Lenny Kravitz covered this) or Undun. A great group.

Exact same age. Was at DMV on my 16th birthday - now kids don't care to drive, would rather have Uber take them. Of course along with music cars were fun then too. Used my summer job money to buy a five year old Mustang which would be worth its weight in gold now for like 300 bucks or so.

Every time I hear 70s music like this, I think of summers as a teenager hanging out at the CNE on the midway with my friends enjoying the rides, games, the people!! Our local radio station 1050 CHUM was the music you'd hear throughout the midway!! It was such a great time to be alive!! Nothing absolutely NOTHING beats the 70s and 80s for awesome good-time music!! ❤from 🇨🇦

Randy started as "the GUESS WHO" and followed with "BTO" and is often in interviews still. A real CANADIAN talented group. You guys don't realize how OFTEN of the material is either written by a Canadian or also performed by Canadian talent as well.

This Canadian band can really rock and had quite a few bangers. TAKIN' CARE OF BUSINESS, GIMME YOUR MONEY PLEASE and LET IT RIDE are pure rock and roll. So many great groups came from Canada like the Guess Who, Rush, April Wine, Nickelback and the Band.

Amazing bit of trivia about Bachman's "stutter" in this. When they were recording it in the studio, he improvised it because his brother was there & he was poking fun at him... his brother had a stutter since childhood. Everyone liked it so much, they left it in the final recording.

My personal favorite is the very hard hitting “Let It Ride”. There are 2 main singers in this group. This guy also takes the lead on the infamous “Taking Care Of Business”. The other singer has a much harder “rock” voice which I prefer and he sings lead on the hits “Let It Ride” and “Roll On Down The Highway”

Not sure which decade I enjoyed the 70's or the 80's but both were full of great styles, great music, and for the most part super good vibes. Funny story about this song, the original track did not include the stutter of the Randy Bachman the singer, and former lead guitarist from The Guess Who, but Randy's brother who has a stutter sang the song in between takes, Randy loved the sound and decided to record it that way....just another rock n roll story....lol Hope you play more BTO like Roll On Down The Highway, my favourite!😁 Peace & Love 🙏❤

Randy Bachman was a founding member of the Guess Who and the stutter part was a tribute to his brother who had a stutter when they were growing up. There is a cool jazzy cover of this by his Guess Who band mate Burton Cummings on his solo album

When this came out...we lived in a house with a stereo mounted in a wall, and full house-speaker system. My brother would put this album on and play it throughout the house.*

This song was absolutely huge in 1974. Randy Bachman's brother was the bands manager for a time and he stuttered. This song was a bit of a teas from older brother Randy to his younger brother but wasn't supposed to be on the album...until the record company heard it and said "this song is going to be a huge hit!". Went to number one in 22 countries!

He absolutely did NOT have a stutter, it was just how he decided to sing this song. None of his other songs had any stutter in them, and his regular talking voice never had any kind of stutter. Stop making up lies.

@@onetruthmediacompany Randy Bachman didn't studder, his brother did. Randy told the story himself on his concert dvd "Every Song Tells a Story". Randy tells the audience a little story about how each song came about before performing it. It's one of my favorite dvd's. You should pick up a copy if you can but I believe they're getting hard to find, and expensive. Have a wonderful Sunday!

I remember hearing about this and am so glad they demanded it be on the album. It was a joke song to rib his brother and just meant as filler while they were figuring out other things. And it is truly an amazing song. I think my favorite of theirs is looking out for number 1, but this is up there for sure.

Always loved this song ! Loved growing up in the 70’s too , most people were so chill and laid back or maybe just the people I was around but I don’t think so because you see that in movies and such from that time as well! man it was an awesome time to be alive and I loved every dang minute of it . My kids laugh at the music I listen to and my hippie clothes 😂

Looking back now (I'm 70) it was amazing how from New York to Los Angeles and Washington to Florida we were all on the same page groovin' to the same vibe, fighting for the same issues and looking for love and peace. A whole nation of young people united by our music. And all we had was landlines, snail mail, and 3 TV channels!🔥🤣❤✌

This is the song that got played so much people got sick of it and in fact their other song Takin Care of Business was actually the music you would hear on hold at Office Depot for the longest time. The guitar Randy is playing will have a documentary about it in the near future. It was his favorite and he composed many hits on it. It was stolen in the mid 1970s and he had searched for it ever since. A man read about it and went on a quest to find it. He was a able to identify the unique wood pattern and found it being played by a musician in Japan. Randy agreed to buy the guy another similar guitar to get his back. He has yet to fly to Japan to recover it.

I learned from an interview with Randy Bachman years and years ago that he wanted BTO to be a rhythm based rock band. But I didn't know until very recently that they were sharing a dressing room with the Doobie Brothers in New Orleans during Mardi Gras in the first half of the 1970s when he worked out some of "Let It Ride" and the Doobies then based "Long Train Running" on his guitar noodlings as he ironed it out. That is astonishing and good to know because the Doobies are one of my all time favourite bands! Randy said in that interview eons ago, back in the 1970s IIRC, that he wanted a band that was rhythmically similar to CCR and the Doobies. Killer rhythm was the thing back in the 1970s and is much too absent from today's music. And BTO has so many excellent lead guitar solos! 😉🎸👌 That "70s sound of guitar" comes from there not being many guitar pedals to alter the sound of the guitar at the time. So if you were going to be an excellent guitarist you had to have "touch" in your fingers. There are plenty of good guitar players around today but also way too many that bury the actual tone of their guitars underneath a ton of effects pedals. The really good guitar players around today will tell you to develop your own signature "sound" with your guitar before drifting off into "guitar pedal-land" and obscurity because you just sound like some over processed thing that no one can get next to in their heart and mind. The lead guitarist in this song was Blair Thornton from Vancouver. 🎸🎸🎸

"B.T.O" as we affectionately called them always had this driving sound. Funny thing about that song and the stutter thing that Randy performed came about from him teasing his little brother who came into the sound studio, and he started to make fun of his speech problem. It ended up in the song and many other artists started using the stutter i.e. The Who, Elton John and so on.

I was 16 in 1976, I drove a 1966 Chevelle (2 door of course) I had an under dash 8 track tape player with this tape in most of the time. My hair was long my weed was cheap and life was worth living. I am 63 now and my hair is long, my Harley is loud and life is good. Thank you two for bringing back my youth for a few moments with your youth hearing the music with young ears and fresh minds. They were my first concert in 1973 in Bellingham Washington when I was a Freshman in college. Cool story is the backup band was Blind Willie. About ten years ago I took my guitar to get repaired at a guys shop in Spokane. He had a Gold record on his wall from this album. My guitar tech had played on this record. And I remember him from the concert in 73 playing lead for the backup band at my first concert. We became fast friends. It was a fun concert.

While being 60 might not sound like a benefit, living through these musical periods and how each song connected to my life is something that is organic. It is as if these songs were trading cards coming out one at a time, sometimes in bunches with connections to one another and still able to fan them out mentally. I am glad you are finding new music you love and sharing it with others. BTO was big and really different at the time.

Well said! As a fellow 60+ this is a thrill to watch our songs come back via these reaction videos. RSR has that excited new discovery approach that is a kick. A&A has a more cerebral reaction but with depth and a musical background. It is all awesome to me.
