Beyonce and Taylor Swift and the likes of them could not hold a candle to KD Lang. Her voice transends, it is sooo pure.. sooo smooth. I love her version of this song above all others.
Please react to KD Lang's tribute to Roy Orbinson by singing the best rendition of Crying I've ever heard. As a Orbinson fan I find it difficult to appreciate covers of his songs because he had such a unique voice and tone that I find covers just fall flat. But KD smashed it!!
Leonard Cohen, the man, the genius who wrote this masterpiece was sitting in the front row of this performance and when she was done he said he could retire the song because it now belonged to KD Lang❤
What an endorsement! You can't ask for anything better than that. Like when Dylan told Jimi that All Along the Watchtower was his now! Thank you, my friend!
Young kd and The Reclines performed on Johnny Carson. She reunited with her old group recently when they performed at the Canadian Country Music Awards. She was inducted into their Hall of Fame.
Heard it was Leonard Cohen who recommended k d lang to sing this song at the Vancouver BC Olympics opening ceremony in 2010. That is a beautiful video, of course the optics for the Olympics are great.
I’ve been a fan of KDs’ ever since I saw her in an old bar on lady’s night in Slave Lake, Alta, in oh, about ‘84 or so. Even then, with her raunchy western campy self, she was ALWAYS in complete control. Her choices man!! Such a singular talent. Then talk about that gorgeous texture. No one on earth sounds like that. As you can tell..I really like her. Love your thoughtful comments, so subbed. Peace out.
Thank you so much, my friend! Wow! '84? Amazing! I think she's great! Hands down just great. I guess I was just meant to find her now and be able to share that experience with you. I consider myself a big fan now. ❤️
k.d. lang is soooo good. That voice just moves right through you. It's funny, I was chatting with someone just a day or so ago about an artist who has a magnificent voice and wonderful tecnique. But, there is no emotion in the singing, no real feel for the song. That can't be said about lang. She has it all and is one of those artists who truely lives in the song. Thank you TripleG for suggesting this song, and thank you Bill for reacting to it.
The great Tony Bennett loved singing with her. They recorded together. Check out her duet s with Tony. Blue Velvet and Because of You. She also sang What a Wonderful World as a tribute to Tony at his Kennedy Center honors. Beautifully done.. Her major pop hit was Constant Craving which is like her signature song off her Ingenue album.
Check out when KD and the Reclines appeared on the Tonight Show with Johnny Carson. It’s the only time Carson was so blown away that he insisted they book her on again the next week.
I never thought I would love a voice more than the voice of Linda Ronstadt but KD Lang is incredible, both great voices, great range and feeling the songs they sing….especially live.
KD’s voice is like butter. Beautiful. She also has contributed to movie soundtracks and has collaborated with Roy Orbison, Elton John, The Killers, Tony Bennett, Anne Murray, Ann Wilson and Jane Siberry. Very talented!
Sorry ... late to this party...story of my life. 😅 What an awesome read you gave here and showed the reverence K.D. deserves. My 1st visit too. Subscribed.❤
12/8 time leaves great expressive room for singers. The singer doesn't have to wait for the band to catch up or leave off where the singer's choices are concerned. legato actually describes slowing down.
k.d.lang is AMAZING her version of Roy Orbisons Crying at his tribute concert or her unplugged version is a must ❤ his family have said the same about that song it is hers now ❤ please react to more k.d x she was a country singer for the first 7 years of her career Three cigarettes in an ashtray/turn me round from the Johnny Carson show is fabulous x her duet with Tony Bennett Blue Velvet is sublime ❤ great reaction have subscribed x
Thank you so much for the sub and your comment! I really appreciate the support! I did Crying. Here's the link: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-jV2At3WyNFY.htmlsi=lebmEpy3ZPd7j4iv I love Bennet! Got to check that one out! Welcome aboard, my friend! ❤️
@@BemusingBill In my humble opinion, her best version is live at The Logies May 2010. KD Lang is not underrated but she is underappreciated. She has one of the best voices of any singer.
Hell yeah! kd lang! Love her so much. Thanks for doing this one, and sharing your time with us. If I'm not mistaken, Leonard Cohen was in the audience here. She did an amazing MTV unplugged version of Orbison's Crying that will give you chills. She also did it as a duet with him, and sang at his tribute. Class act.
If I were to make a good bet, I'd say that k.d. and Tony did a duet at some point. Tony's worked with so many artists in his many decades- truly unbelievable! I'll have o see what she sang with him. I'd love to check them all out! ❤️
Leonard Cohen's music is absolutely fantastic! There really are countless cover versions of "Hallelujah", many of them are quite beautiful - including this one. But the most touching, emotional "Hallelujah" I've ever heard was Leonard Cohen himself at a concert. I wasn't the only one with tears in my eyes and there were standing ovations lasting several minutes! It was one of the most incredible concerts I've ever had the pleasure of seeing. It's wonderful that his music lives on, it is timeless. 💗
I do love the original version. I found it after hearing Jeff Buckley's singing it back in the 90s. To have witnessed Leonard in concert- so amazing! Thank you, my friend! ❤️
Leonard Cohen said that they could put this song to rest now after he heard kd lang sing it. When they asked him to sing it at tge Olympics, he told them to ask kd lang because it was her song now. He considered her version more than just a cover.
One word -God. If God had appearance in form this is what it looks like. That sound was from a deeper dimension being brought forth thru KD. What a gift to humanity. Consciousness loves seeing itself -the dance of Leila (sp?). The humility and reverence -a rarity . And your reaction outstanding - depth. Don’t hear many go as deep as you did. Truly appreciative 🙏🏻Respect🙏🏻
k.d. lang is just astounding. Her phrasing, her range, her interpretation, the absolute effortless power of her voice, her ability to reduce her audience to hushed awe ... and tears. She is just incredible. Check out the soundtrack song of a film she acted in: Salmonberries. The song is Barefoot. It's other-worldly. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-I4FkncWeIRs.html
Not too shabby for Canadian talent, huh? k.d. lang [lower case] likes to be barefoot often in her performances. Constant Craving, is great, & Miss Chatelaine is a fun one.
Bill, this is Gwen, thank you so much for another awesome reaction to one of my suggestions. Some people will say the 2010 Olympics performance is the best, but I prefer this version, personal preference, and all. k d lang is another one of those very underrated singers. I'm extremely happy you liked her version of this iconic song. Your tears brought on my tears. She did a duet with Roy Orbison of his song Crying. The link below is from the Roy Orbison tribute on 2/24/1990 at the Universal Amphitheater. I think you will really dig it. It was filmed using Video8 (8mm) tape recording and features the FM simulcast audio. I hope you enjoy it. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-_mOLtUWGyUc.htmlsi=CCYRJ1AD3uEJaV9b
I also think this is her best version. Sometimes it's easy to confuse "spectacular" with "the best". No doubt the Vancouver Olympics provided a truly spectacular setting, but I find this version unparalleled. Thanks for suggesting this one! 👍
Thank you so much, Gwen! My appologies not getting to your comment more timely. I love that Orbison song! k.d singing it? Well, I'll need me tissues methinks 😉. Thank you for the link! I had no idea how great she is. So thank you for introducing me to another amazing artist. All my love ❤️❤️
Sadly while Canada has plenty of Love to give to our talents, with such a small population, most of our talents must go international to "make it" financially. I loved Leonard Cohon but most of his songs are not best listened to by someone suffering from depression so had to stop listening to him for a very long time. Painful voice but such a poet🙄 Great recommendation Gwen.👍 I prefer the Juno version over the Olympic version too. Thank you Bill. 🥰🥰Much love from a Canadian Dear🇨🇦
My Dear friend, my strength and prayers in your ongoing battle. I'm sure quite a few artists would be hard to listen to. I get it, I really do. Funny to find out she sang it in the Olympics back in 2010. I'm a big Olympics fan (been glued to the set the last week!) so I likely heard her do this back then, but I have no recollection of it. I remember the respect given to the First Nations and the whales in the floor with the water blowing out of their spouts but not much else. The wonders of growing old! 😁 So many great Canadian artists! For me, #1 RUSH!! Then Triumph, Gordon Lightfoot, Cohen, Twain, Celine Dion, Bryan Adams....so many! Makes me want to take off, to the Great White North! 😉 My thanks and heartfelt love to you, Renee ❤️❤️❤️
I just found your channel and I love it!!! They way you review music with such an openness is such a delight! May I make A suggestion? Check out the live performance of Terrence Trent Darby singing Holding Onto You Live from London 1995. I would love to know what you think! Now I'm going to check out the rest of your channel😁
I remember Terrence Trent Darby! I can't remember any songs off the head, but I appreciate the recommendation! That you for checking out my channel! When I do that song I'll dedicate it to you, my friend! 🤘❤️🤘
K.D. is my ALL TIME FAVORITE female vocalist.😍 Leonard Cohen himself said - after hearing K.D. sing this - that “no one else should bother” singing it (because she’s the BEST). My FAVORITE performance, tho, is K.D. singing “Hallelujah” at: The 2010 OLYMPICS …UNbelievable! If anyone hasn’t seen that performance: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-tcOQSk_cMO0.htmlsi=yxk1avoPRNbH11DC
I vaguely remember that performance at the Olympics (I'm a self-professed Olympic nerd) but I really should watch it again. Thank you for the recommendation, my friend! ❤️
