They are definitely strong but no one services their autos, drop the pan and clean the filter every 20k and you’ll have no dramas! This was previously owned by someone who towed a van around aus, I aussimed never serviced the auto.. hard life

RE4s can be built to handle massive power. Re5s are weaker and it is extremely hard to get newer trans controllers to work perfectly with such little tolerances for error for both hi range and low range. For a example go look at the RU-vidr Adam LZ trying to get the 10speed zf trans to work with a barra in his mustang. And that’s a professional driver and team and with more contacts then any of us.

@@Chasing_Back_Roads👍 for reassurance regarding RE4 trannie. I was considering to keep all as is and just closely monitor things and I think I'll retain this thinking. Any poor oil drain/filter exchange will be my lead to update my torque converter valve body. Yes, I'm a maintenance freak, need to be to retain a reliable trust worthy truck. Hope to keep it trucking a long long time into the future.

@@ianweal3081 I’ve just built mine to the max, will full manualised 4 position valve body and billet low stall converter behind a ZD. Built right they can handle 1000hp barra down the 1/4. The company that built mine said they have one behind a barra that runs 7.8s. But in saying that. If maintenance is let go or trans oil temps go to high which is very easy to do with the stock cooler the oil is as good as water once the oils burnt all the lubricants. I run a 9x13.5 cooler with a constant fan to keep on top of my temps.

I always had concerns with oil cooling going through radiator base only, I used to always add an air cooler as well, so was pleased to see Nissan had already supplied one as standard on ZD30 Patrols. I'll have a look at enlarging as you have done, good feedback, again thanks.

@@ianweal3081 thought I replied to this but it’s disappeared sorry. GZM Automotive in thomastown vic mate built mine. No we disconnected it because if it’s hot weather or working hard they are heating each other up. Think of it this way coolant is already around the 85c mark so it’s going to struggle to cool the trans oil much more then that in summer. Yes they do but if you live in a hotter part of australia or do heaps of hard 4wding or tow more then just a unbraked trailer or thru hills then the stock one isn’t enough. And all the kits you can buy are no point unless you have a constant fan - even if you doubled a kit up with the stock cooler if the vehicle is working hard the temperatures will run away and as soon as the lubricant pack in the oil is melted it’s as good as having water in the trans. The clutch packs will self destruct in seconds if they get too hot. I have deleted the stock power steering cooler and am using the stock auto cooler for the power steering and the transmission cooler stand-alone with a constant fan.

To be honest@@RoamLyfe I regret not thinking about it myself, until after rebuilding the gearbox & transfer case in my 80 Series. Personally I think it is a game changer that should not be overlooked, & is well worth the extra investment. Also, would the Runva fairlead fit better upside down?

Much more aftermarket support for the 4j ! The crd has broken three times on me already and honestly I see them for sale with blown motors all the time even the crd, g turbos injectors etc for sale on a motor that’s popped, I was originally gonna build it but the more I seen pop up with hurt motors started to scare me! Diesel conversions Australia have done a shut load of blown crd swaps too he said he’s flat out swapping them out!

I’ve been waiting 6 months for my Jimmy bar. He’s fucked me around big time but it’s finally on the way luckily
