you know every now and then I take a look at this series and I think to myself "what more can I add?" and there's always something more cause there are so many small details in this thing. thanks a bunch dude.
This truly is the best speedrun edu-tainment content there is, really fantastic work! When people only watch WR-caliber Celeste speedruns, they don't realize that Celeste is also one of the most accessible speedgames because it offers such a degree of challenge-by-choice. So having a tutorial series that layers things in a bit at a time in such a digestible way complements the game perfectly, and is such a vital part of this and any speedrun community. And let me just corroborate that this is WAYYY more than you """need""" to get sub-50. If you get consistent with everything here (or even like 70% of it), you can get sub-40 and beyond. Heck, some of these are things that I didn't implement until I had a time well under 35 (although I think I'm just stubborn with new strats, since I first learned from the Benteezy tutorial). So if you see a strat here and go "oh hell no I'm not doing that," then don't, because your sub-50 doesn't hinge on it. I guarantee that you'll come back later and go "what the heck, that's free, why didn't I do that before?" because you just get better the more you play. (Also LMAO "Space Jam Haters" really got me)
Thank you so much!!! 🥺 Celeste really is sooooo special. Also 100% not everything here is necessary for sub 50! I do believe that these strats will get you there in the easiest way possible, but there’s plenty of ways to learn and develop as a Celeste runner!
wtf, i just started speedrunning celeste and was using your videos (thanks btw) but i'm completely shocked you only have 3.6k subs, super high quality videos great work
Thank you for this guide! I've loved celeste since I played it a few years ago and have recently gotten back into it in a big way. I finally hit sub 50 after weeks of playing and although it may not be a WR it feel so good to accomplish this! I feel like I did my best and am now feeling even more encouraged to keep enjoying the journey of getting faster!
My old record was 57 min. But after the break I had problems getting below 1h. Thanks to your guide I smashed my old record with an 54.xx after some training. thank you for your effort and pleose keep doing these :)
been excited for this video for a while :D PB is currently 41:05.986, but there are a good amount of strats here that I haven't implemented so I think this video about sub 50 could help me get sub 40 lol love the video editing in this, keep up the good work!
Sub-hour video was amazing! It was enough for me to guide myself to sub-50 using harder strats and just me being better at the game than I was at sub-hour. I want to get 45 minutes or even 39, but I need a sum of best to go that low lol Also great video! I already know it’s going to be awesome :) Edit: it was so good! You’re very good at editing lol edit 2: HOLY CRAP. I spent ~3 hours in 2a, 3a, and 6a, and for each one EXCEPT 2A, I TOOK AWAY MORE THAN 1 MINUTE OFF MY PREVIOUS PB. 3a old PB was somewhere around 8 minutes. New routes? Now it's at 6:52!!!! 6a old PB was 9:42 (I think) and new PB was 8:20. THAT WAS A BAD RUN TOO. (Sadly, my game crashed at the end, SCREW SC2020 FOR CRASHING MY GAME!!!)
@@AverageImposter I spent another hour grinding 7a just now and I did get a new pb (also I decided to learn 57:24 just because I felt like it lol) I think I just need to get more consistency and sub 40 may come soon! I'll also definitely do more runs because there is no way I'm getting sub-40 without doing a couple runs beforehand lol
Thank you for this series!! This has been great to get me started! I am not subhour yet, but this makes me think i can do it before the end of the year!
Thanks! I got a 58:04 right before starting a new job and took a break - a few de-rust runs last week and I matched that time, and these strats are exactly what I was looking for!
Your guide is really helpful with me getting into speedruning celeste recently and now I need to use this vid to help push my pb below the 50 min mark :)
YOOOOOO I do sliiiiiightly overprepare runners with these videos just to make it as easy as possible to break the time barriers, but breaking another one doesn’t hurt at all 😁 thanks for watching!
After some weeks of practice using the strats in this video, I'm now sitting comfy at 43:23. As I try to shave off the last few minutes, I eagerly await the next video in the series.
Still using just the strats in this video and the reference playlist I now have a 39:13! Can't wait to see the sub 40 video to hopefully push that number down even further.
Thanks to this guide, subhour guide, and basic mechanics guide, I went from not speedrunning the game at all to top 1000 run with a time of 40:19.423 in 10 days! Thanks for the tutorials and just a tip, not dying saves a lot more time than you think.
Wtf that’s nuts!!! Congrats!! I’m so glad all of my videos have been able to push your limits in this way, and hopefully future videos will continue to do so 😁
My current PB is a 47:53, alot of it being self taught, and only recently (as in the last 2 days) having attempted and learned 5b yet theres still so much i dont know/yet to implement I think with this sub 50 guide im actually feasibly able to push towards sub 40 due to how much i was missing and a large amount of deaths in each run. Cant wait for the sub 40 guide to point out another 100 things i still need to improve/learn at. Really well made informative video
Been waiting for this for a long time, and it did not disappoint. Congrats on 2k, I can easily see you making it to the big leagues of youtube, but in the meantime these guides have been incredibly helpful, cant wait for the next ones!
I got interested in speedrunning Celeste years ago, and am just coming back to it now. This is an incredible guide, and has helped me out so much. Thank you for creating it!
I used to do some casual speedruns a couple years ago and managed to get a sub 1h before, but I was stuck at 57-59 minutes. I found your videos and was able to go from 1:17:31 on my first run after returning 6 days ago, down to 48:47 just a few moments ago. Your tutorials and strat guides have been super helpful! Thanks for taking the time to make these.
Love these videos! I never knew how to do the cutscene skip dreamblock thing in Old Site till now. I'm going to be making my own Celeste content so this is pretty inspiring
Two button jumping is SOOOOO NICE once you start learning more and more tech in this game. There’s plenty more spots to show where it’s useful! But cornerkicks, yep 100% makes it easier
This guide was simply incredible! You are an amazing guider through the Celeste journey, and I can't wait to improve further with your guidance. Thank you so much!
I love these vids! Your vids helped me a lot when I was first starting out. I was thinking I wouldn’t see another one of these from you, but I’m happy to see another! Thank you for making these!
I got sub 1h 2 weeks ago thanks to your sub 1hour video fortunately i already learnt most of the mechanics needed just need to use them well Thx for these videos they are fun, well explained and really useful
30:40, when i started trying to figure out this shortcut by myself i discovered that if you stay somewhat in the middle of the platform, you can simply wait until you notice the platform move and then just demo dash to the right and you will make it easily, its a 100% strat for me even though im very incosistent
These guides are amazing; just got my first sub-50 with a 47:09 and I still have a lot more that I know I can improve on. Thanks for the help and I look forward to the sub-40 guide!
this video is amazing, my goal in this game is to get sub 40 and im going for sub 45 with amy pb being 47:07 my only problem is that i run this game on xbox 1, i don’t have a pc, do i can’t demo or pause buffer like people do on pc, and practicing sucks too with no save states, but a lot of this is filled with stuff i can do! everything is so clear and your helping a lot of people and your videos are fun to watch so please keep it up!!!
great video! my reflection PB after the watch party dropped to 6:24 and I can't wait to implement summit strats to finally break sub-9:30. this video is useful even way beyond sub-50!
I just got my first sub 50 run! (On switch without the speedrun tool unfortunately) Thanks for that amazing resource and in looking forward to the sub 40 vid! :D
Thank you for all the hard work you put in to make these videos, they have been super helpful in addition to being entertaining. Just now I managed to hit my first sub-50 with a 46:27! It will be interesting to see if I hit sub 40 by myself before the next upload ;)
Dude just watching your video makes me better at the game Got a sub hour on like the 3rd attempt after watching that video now I have a 45:38 and at the time i didnt even use resort last checkpoint and ridge strats Cant wait for the sub 40 video (still a 5a enjoyer btw 😅, cant bring myself to learn 5b but maybe i will for sub 40) Couldn't have come this far without your guides!
I finally got my own 48:53.894 recorded, can't help but say thanks a lot for the guide. There's still a lot of room for movement optimization for 2a, 3a, 4a and 7a, but as for now, I'll only attempy a sub 40 with another guide help, heh
If you wanna get more movement optimization, definitely give the ILs a look! I think they show relatively optimized movement you could throw in right away. But regardless, GGs on the sub 50!! 😁
I want to thank you for your efforts here. This is an incredible video and I really hope you continue to make more of these. Like a sub 40 min and sub 30 min if you do so feel inclined to continue. Because oh my gosh, I have never sped run a game before, and after only 2 weeks of I wouldn't even say super hardcore practice, my current PB is 51:39.559 So I want you to know that your guide and videos truly are an incredible help. You make me feel like a speedrunner haha so thank you for helping me enjoy my favorite platformer so much more
Thank you soooooo much 🥺 there will be PLENTY more to come!! They just take a super long time to put together 😅 but I’ve got big plans! I’m so glad I was able to help you enjoy this game so much more, it really is such a beautiful and well crafted game. You ARE a speedrunner!! Keep on keeping on 😁
Solid. I recommend for the most part just playing, seeing where you can do better, and how to implement it. :) That reaches sub40 on it's own. These tricks are helpful to know on a theoretical level too though
tbh even though i’ve seen video of you pulling it off multiple times, i didn’t believe your entry cycle at 36:29 existed. i tried it every time i ran 5b though and holy shit today i just witnessed it before my own eyes on my first sub 50 run (49:59.752 btw )
this is great. as someone who was at 194 berries before breaking my game with too many Everest mods, i want to get back into speedrunning it. my pb was 59:58.89 at the time. all these strategies are crazy, even for sub-50. demo dashes scare me 😳
The sub hour video inspired me to start running. I managed to get to a 44 minute time but after a break I have been struggling to even finish runs as I get tilted by chapters 3 or 4. Hopefully the vid reinspires me but if not I can keep "enjoying" going after my final golden berries.
Heck yea! Enjoy the game however you’d like to. It’s very easy to get tilted, especially on 3a and 4a, but with enough practice it definitely does get easier. If you decide to go for goldens, best of luck! I still need the fwg myself lol
Ayyyy Im glad to hear that! I really wanted to try making it something well rounded that anyone can get help from, so it’s sick that you found some strats that will be helpful 😁
I was able to get sub 50 after a few tries by only watching the sub hour video since I already have 199 strawberries in this game and about that many hours clocked in, so I'm excited to see how low I can go after implementing these new consistent and faster strats!
Hey! I know that there have been tons of different Celeste any percent guides, and I’m curious to see exactly how you would compare this with programmatic’s advanced Guide. Some of the stress I’ve seen above these different completely, and I’m just curious as to if you know whether or not, there is an extreme time difference between these two, or if the times are similar. Love the content, keep it up.
Thank you so much! So the key difference between my guide and Programmatic’s is that they provided IL guides full of room-by-room explanations for strats which were widely used at the time of making the videos. My approach differs in the sense that I’m doing ENTIRE GAME runs in one video, but I’m not going over EVERY room, just key problem areas and providing info / tech recommendations I believe someone looking to break these time barriers should learn and keep in mind. So if you’re the kind of person who wants to take every room one-by-one, I’d recommend Programmatic’s guides as long as you’re familiar with a lot of the speed tech in Celeste (which Programmatic provides info on in the first video of their series). My approach is to gradually learn tech as you break these barriers, but some rooms you may have to learn from watching the IL strat vids. Also, there are definitely faster strats than the one showcased here in sub-50, but any that were omitted may have been due to difficulty or tech knowledge. Bottom line, it just depends on how ya wanna learn!
Loved the first sub-hour video, and this video! the sub-hour video helped me get from a 1:18 all the way down to a 37:52. Massive help! one question on the Pause and Jump button, when I bind a keyboard key to both pause and jump, instead of doing the fancy frame advance thing, It just unpauses the game. do I have to double tap it? Thanks!
WOW that’s amazing!! Congrats! For the pause + jump, the jump will only happen if you are already paused THEN unpause and pause again right away with that same button. Hope this helps! Feel free to reach out at my discord if you still have questions!
Thank you so much for the videos. Just wondering, do you mind using the "Input monitor" mod in Celeste? I think it will be useful to know (approximately) how many frames each input is supposed to be. I just started playing Celeste quite recently, and it took me like *long time* to figure out the timing for the search skip in 5a (like 20-24 frames iirc), so knowing that would be good :) Thanks once again!
Thank you for watching! As the series progresses, I’ll consider using the input monitor, especially since we’ll be diving into more precise and difficult strats where i can see it being useful. Thanks for the recommendation!
Sorry, but I’m still not doing 5 B I practiced 5 A golden Berry too much to not get some of my investement back here. Otherwise, thanks ! The video is clear, entertaining and helpfull !
Great vid, would you be interested in doing run reviews for newer players sometime? I think having your own run reviewed (or watching someone else's run get reviewed) can be really eye opening.
This has been a thought I’ve had a few times! I was considering either doing them live on my twitch or maybe offering it as like a reward for like a $1 support on Patreon or somethin’. I’ll think on it!
lets hope the sub 40 takes another 9 months to come out so I can actually reach sub 50 first lmao LOVE the vids theyre a great rescource for me as an absolute beginner
@@AverageImposter I sure hope not! I'm curious how far you'll take this, because can tell you're very good at teaching this, but my pb is a 36:10. I know you're planning on a sub 40, but what about a sub 35 or 30? That gets really advanced, and it seems like your subs aren't there yet. (No offense meant, it isn't easy, and we all had to start somewhere). EDIT: You didn't tell everyone how much time doorskip saves!
I can't even get a Sub HOUR time yet, and now you upload a Sub-50 video!? I've got some work to do... oh well. See you in the Sub-40 video! Amazing work :)
Hello as a victor of sub 50 i must say that 80 precent of the strats told in this video, i havent used. I just tried to not die and did some fast strats when i needed to. This tutorial is awesome, but i have to say that many many of the strats in this video, you dont have to do.
