So we fully stripped the bike down, painted and rebuilt parts, sourced new parts, and put it back together. It's like a new bike now, and there will be plenty more videos on this bike to come. Thanks for watching guys.
Good job I like the final result. Looks nice. But I do recommend when you color a engine that you make sure that you don’t use paint, if you can find a thick type of high temp paint go for it but over very little time you may see scratches, idk if you had cleaned the motor but you really have to scrub it with clean towels and paint prep. And last thing is that I belive you painted the valve cover rubber, the issue is that when it gets hot it expands so it may look the same becuase you painted it black but for an example if you paint it white you will start to see that the paint will start coming off when it expands. You did a good job on the frame but I do recommend that you put a peace of rubber or grip tape where you rub your foot on the frame by the peg because it’s painted and boot rub happens easily with paint, especially rattle can paint. It may look good now but over the years it may end up looking scratched but that’s not entirely a big issue since it’s a super moto and it won’t be rubbing on twigs. I recommend investing 80$ into a powdercoating machine or 20$ into a ceracoating machine becuase this is baked on paint/ powder. This is what Yamaha uses to paint the frame and this last longer it doesn’t exactly scratch off easily you probly would have to drop it, it’s very fun and easier to powder coat. But I think it looks awesome and I love how it looks, it’s amazing! I like the blue hubs too :)
Great job you did there guys!! I personally disagree with the engine spray paint, most of the reasons are mentioned already on previous comments. The bike looks almost like my WR426F 😁 ✌🏻
Nothing wrong with spray painting the frame or the engine. But you should have torn down engine and done each piece separately. Doing it like you did is very hard/bad for the engine seals it will dry them out much more fast, "shifter seal, kick starter seal," the grommets around the harness ECT.
@@DODGEMSQUAD BIKE PARTS ARE POWDERCOATED or ceracoated!! at least you should use two-component clearcoat... painting frame and engine cases with spray is just ridiculous...
The reason the engine shouldn’t be black is because of heat, black won’t disperse heat energy as well as chrome or sliver plus oil leaks and problems won’t be as easily found and anyway any scratches will be highly visible but it’s your bike and your bike still looks amazing great video man
Jamie Clague they don’t produce as much heat and they also have massively better cooling systems and the main part is they are already covered up by the hood so a silver engine won’t make a difference except increase cost as they would have to make the engine shine before sale while black is black motorcycle engines especially a dirt bike engine overheat constantly compared to cars so they need every bit of cooling they can get
Painting the motor killed it would have left the beat up silver motor for when you have to rebuild it then once a rebuild is completely then clean up the motor that's the way I would have done it personally I don't like paint on motors but good job painting the frame and swing arm came out good
Yes I'm just after commenting about that myself, it seems to be a weird craze everyone is doing and it just looks awful on all the bikes it doesn't belong to
What year is your wr400f? Mines a 98' and I had to upgrade to a later year rear swing arm because supermoto rear wheels are hard to find with the early year's smaller diameter rear axle.
Thanks for all the great comments on this build video! We really appreciate it, make sure you check out our channel, as we're sure you'll find something your into on there, and if you want to see more of the bike give us a sub ✌
You should have given the bike some service, check valves, carburator, schwingarm bearings etc. The worst thing you did is leaving the suspension in offroad setup. Guess you haven‘t done a Supermoto conversion before. A skilled rider would always change the suspension, but I think for your use it will work.
Oil and filter were changed, air filter, swingarm bearings were stripped and re greased, and rear shock was sent away for a rebuild and re gas etc, just didn't manage to get any of that on camera, with hind sight I would've filmed a lot more of the details, as I had to machine spacers for the wheels too, and changed the gearing, but you never really know how popular a video will be, thanks for watching though, and hopefully you'll enjoy some of our future videos ✌
People keep putting the old KTM headlight on everything and it just looks hideous on anything but a KTM, stock wr one looks good and it matches the aesthetic of the bike so I'd put it back on
Why supermoto a trail WR for city ?? Also why after all that work, do such a basic paint job frame/ motor ? Cash ?? And did the paint come off with the first/second power washing?? Curious is all cause it's such a perfect build and bike, you did a great job.
Just fancied trying the bike in supermoto setup, the frame and paint was just a time thing to be honest, it never really intended to be a full strip down, all it needed was a rear shock rebuild, but after getting that out, I just carried on stripping and painting, and ended up where we did, paint is still perfect after a lot of washes, and now the bike has a full graphics set on too, it looks brand new, the next video on Sunday will show what it now looks like, so make sure you subscribe if you want to see more of the bike!
I have a Honda grom also and the engine comes painted black from the factory, so I never saw issue with it, all the blue details pop so much better on a black motor, and it's more in keeping with the look I was going for. Thanks for watching though! Hopefully you'll enjoy more of the videos we make too ✌
sup great vid... ive got a wr400F supermoto myself but its wont start easy, runs great full throttle but when i release its like a machine gun...maybe u know what is the problem?? would be great thx in advance
Honestly I wouldn't know, you could play with the fuel screw on the carburetor though. There are a few guides online telling how far out it should be. That may help with your issues
@@DODGEMSQUAD yeah after 5 years outside and me working on it for 3 days it started from first kick but... It stalled and won't start anymore haha tomorrow another day
@@DODGEMSQUAD i fixed it! played with camshaft timing and tadaaa, after mechanics not being able to fix it not mechanic me with spare time and an owner manual did it lmao
Mohd Zuhdi Saupi if you’re know anything about motorcycles then you’ll know that the front wheel is going in the correct rotation. The front wheel goes opposite of the rear wheel
A lot of people have asked this, and I dont really understand why they do, the engine was chipped and not very clean, now it looks like new is is all one colour, it looks far better than it did
Yea but you can't jsut paint it if i wold duing this i wold paint it shiny shilver and not at all mby just black hat ob cilinder...and mby some shiny blue on the bolts...in this way wold look wayy better🙂
@@DODGEMSQUAD imo, people commented on that because the way you make it, it is like a lazy way of doing restoration. Its better if we could see more work into cleaning the parts, especially the engine, to make it look fresh rather than just spray paint it
@@azimhamidun7291 the engine will be having a rebuild at some point this year, so a full strip down, it might not have come across well in the video but the old silver was really scratched and tatty, after painting everything else and now with all the new stickers on it (can be seen in latest video) I knew the only thing that would let it down would be the engine, so i used a Matt finish high temperature paint and hit the whole thing. It still looks great 3 months on and if ever it gets scratched now, I can just hit it with some more black paint. ✌
Easy to say when you aren't the one who is footing the bill or spending the manhours on it. You don't need to shit on the guys efforts just for the sake of it.
