Welcome back 😁
This video is part 1 that I'm doing on wrenches. This video I show and share my opinion on combination wrenches. The brands that I discuss are Wright Tools, S&K , Titan, Dynamic, TEKTON, MAC Precision Torque , Cornwell, KOBALT and Gearwrench. These are all brands that I have used at work and at home.
This video is my longest video that I have done. I hope that you find it interesting and informative.
In the comments below, let me know what you think about the wrenches that I have talked about. Let me know your thoughts good or bad..
NOTE: I said KinChrome in the video and should be Sidchrome.. sorry for any confusion.
As always, I appreciate all of you who follow and watch my videos. Please stay safe and healthy..

Wright tools wright grip is unbeatable ime and better yet their literally giving folks jobs and feeding families paying a living wage in little old Barberton, Ohio within a couple hours from me me as well as being one of the last few privately held businesses in the space and they cannot be beat, I do wish they had 6pt tho

Most of my combo wrench usage is done at home typically using my Gearwrench ratcheting wrenches. It’s not as often that I need an open end, but when I do I find that the majority of foreign made wrenches I own tend to spread too easily. These include some Duralast and a few Channellock brand. I have a few older USA Craftsman that are much better open ends and an 11/16” Wright Grip that I picked up from a pawn shop some years back. There’s absolutely a difference in the Wright wrench and all the others. Much better fit and it doesn’t spread like the cheaper ones. I hope to buy a good quality set in the near future and may likely go with the Wrights. I don’t feel I need top of the line for my home use, but I cannot stand to use a tool that doesn’t perform. If that means spending more then I will. I have plenty of budget wrenches. Most of them will work for me most of the time, but when you’re in a bind with a stubborn fastener the right tool makes all the difference. Anyhow, I’m digging the videos. Lots of good information and I like the fact that you give honest opinions on the budget tools and don’t just dismiss them bc they aren’t tool truck brands.

Thank you so much for saying such kind words... I know some people get upset because someone buys SnapOn or they buy HF. First off, who cares... lol. Why does anyone care what someone buys? Right? But also, why spend a ton of money on tools that you hardly ever use? Like you said, with the economy like it is and so many choices now, why just have money sitting in your box? The tools that I depend one everyday I like to buy the better tools. Tools I hardly ever use, save some money.. But don't think that all HF is garbage. I have the 3/8 and 1/2 drive wobble impact extensions and they have been awesome. I just the Chief air hammer and it has been great so far..... My first set of Wrights I bought used off eBay. 1/2 to 15/16 for like 45 dollars. They have been great and Wright will still warranty them. I wish I knew about Wright sooner.. Thanks again .. stay safe and I hope your weekend has been good.. ☺️👍

I've been asked why I "need" two sets of SAE and two sets of metric wrenches at home and at the shop, LOL. Because sometimes you absolutely need two of the same size.

Wright grip 2.0's are the way to go. If you work on hydraulic lines I prefer angled wrenches and Tekton makes a pretty good USA made angled wrench for a decent price point. If you have a Do-IT Best Hardware store in your area, they are big on Channel Lock. With that being said Channel Lock makes other tools besides pliers and are imported. They do have combination wrenches up to 2" They are decent, they are identical to Carlyle, Milwaukee and Icon as far the open end having the same anti-slip design. I use those at both home and work for big projects and farm equipment.

Well done Dave! I completely understand where you are coming from. I am also guilty of using a SAE on larger sizes if I don’t have the right metric size. My 70s era SK wrenches are still in a complete set and are used quite often. I have a Kobalt set of metric wrenches in larger sizes I use for suspension work. Somehow I get the work done without breaking the bank! Excellent vid!

Those raised panel SK wrenches you have are really nice I have just a few my SK wrench sets are the SuperChrome. I purchased my SK 1/4 drive socket sets and wrenches in the mid 90's when the prices were not that much more than Craftsman.

Some good budget smooth jaw wrenches I have used are the Tekton, and Pittsburg with the V shaped jaws. Great value USA made non slip wrenches include Wright and Williams. All 4 of these I would consider an excellent value high quality wrench.

Is your SK the SuperChrome? I had some of those early in my career. I traded them in for some Matco (Armstrong) . I wish I would have kept them because Matco change their wrenches and couldn't complete the set... hate when thay happens... lol. Thanks for watching. Have a great weekend

My standard-sized wrenches are SK in SAE & metric. My long pattern metrics are MAC (USA) & SK. SAE long pattern are Sunex. Larger sizes are WrightGrip. Super- & X-Long sizes are Pittsburgh. All work well, but the Sunex seem to have a poor finish.

I currently use ATD and K Tool wrenches but soon I'll be adding a set of Gearwrench 6 point wrenches in sae and metric. I'm also going to get a set of long pattern wrenches from John Deere in sae. The metric long pattern ones are most likely going to be K Tool.

If you are talking about the 440 wrench (precision Torque), they are not made here. They are made overseas in a Stanley B&D factory

I love my wrightgrip 2.0 and the no skip on my metric set and my SAE set and the price is excellent over the snap-on flank drive. Question on stubby wrenches I have a set of gearwrench set but I'm wanting a new set any recommendations
@OneMechanic
@OneMechanic 2 года назад
Hey Steven... the Stubbies that I own is SnapOn and Craftsman USA non ratcheting and they have been solid. I have some PROTO metric ratcheting spline drive and they have been decent. I also have metric and SAE Dynamic flex ratcheting stubbies and they have been great... but I hardly ever use stubby's...

I despise the Apex Tool Group because of their track record of shutting down American production to promote their Taiwanese stuff AND their crappy customer service . I think that the quality of the product line has decreased over time as well. When I have the option I am buying American 🇺🇸 made tools. I’ve got a set of SAE combination wrenches that I purchased from Sears when I first began my career 30 years ago. I also have some Armstrong wrenches as well as Wright and SnapOn. The quality of the Armstrong combination wrenches were impeccable. You could tell that they took great pride in their products. Ditto for WrightGrip wrenches. I actually prefer the slightly thicker beam that the WrightGrip wrenches use. Should Wright ever listen to customer input and offer long beam combo wrenches I’ll be all over them. They are that good. They’re the only wrenches that I’d grab before I grab a Flankdrive wrench. Williams also have American made Super Combo wrenches that are long pattern and are beasts. Thicker beams, beefy open ends with their slightly different version of Flankdrive. I snatched them up slightly used for about 1/2 the cost of them new. Williams part #s that contain letters (not just numbers) are USA produced. Their 3/8 impact sockets are absolutely identical in size, length, and features as my SnapOn versions but were about 1/2 the cost. I own a set of Mac combo wrenches that I purchased probably 28 years ago. Back then these wrenches had the reputation for the open end spreading open with hard useage but I never experienced that with mine. I know that it’s not always possible to buy American but I make the effort to buy American when I have the option. Current events clearly expose America’s vulnerability from depending on foreign countries for the products that we need. America can produce the finest quality tools in the world if and when they can compete on a level playing field. Thanks for the video.👍
@OneMechanic
@OneMechanic 2 года назад
Absolutely .. I try to buy American when possible or at least buy from an American business. I had some MATCO wrenches that where supposedly made by Armstrong. They where awesome wrenches. When I wasn't able to expand them to bigger sizes because MATCO had changed or APEX was already in place.. Not sure which, I traded them in on my Cornwells. Another good USA made product.. Thanks for watching ... Stay SAfe
