@@Little1Cave Looking back on this now, Sam Smith’s song was at one point criticized for sounding too similar to Michael Jackson’s Earth Song in terms of music arrangement and tempo. You’ll need to hear both carefully to spot the difference and similarities.

Her Sound of Music Tribute on the pervious 2015 Oscars deserved an award in itself. I was so disappointed to see Smith winning it, the Bond songs composition & balance were all over the place. He should have handed the award to Gaga & Diane out of respect after having claimed to be primarily influenced by GaGa.

it's 2021 but I'm still upset that lady gaga didn't win. shallow should have been her 2nd award already. sorry for the fans of Sam Smith but take a look at lady gaga's 2016 Oscar performance and say to me that he still deserved it. Yes, he deserved it. They were both great songs, but objectively Sam’s was the better one, more lyrical, complex, nuanced. Lady Gaga performed emotively on stage, and was as amazing as she always is. But here’s the thing: Best Song goes to the best song, not the best singer.

The fact that The Writing’s on the Wall won, despite most of the Academy being in the can (so to speak) for Lady Gaga, shows you just how much better it was than TIHTY. Spectre was a much poorer movie compared to Skyfall, so it certainly didn’t benefit from any post-Bond or post-Adele hype.

"Till It Happens To You" was literally ROBBED! We all know Gaga and Diane deserved that Oscar. (It had a very beautiful message). Shame on the academy.
Am I the only one here that thinks "Simple Song #3" should have won? Not only it's a great song but it represents so much emotion and meaning for the film's plot. Isn't that an important aspect to consider in the first place? It's such a shame that this award has lost it's initial purpose.

I can't believe they didn't even nominate Jennifer Lopez and her beautiful song "Feel the Light" from animated film "Home". Say what you want guys but Jenny deserved that. This song was the greatest that year. Just my own opinion.
I’m happy that Adele, Sam Smith, Billie Eilish and Phineas O’Connell won their Oscars for Best Original Song. But the one thing that still pisses me off is that Chris Cornell, Jack White and Alicia Keys never got an Oscar nomination for “You Know My Name” and “Another Way to Die” because many people didn’t associate rock music with James Bond. So here’s my opinion. A. Not every James Bond song has to be in classical music. B. Not every James Bond song has to be perfect. C. One day they might add Hip Hop or Heavy Metal in a James Bond song in the future.

I wish more people saw the exquisite piece that is Writing's on the wall. Sam will forever be a legwnd in my book even if his performance wasnt the best which he acknowledged later and DID NOT by any means expect to win and was just as shocked as the rest of ths crowd. As for his speech, that was an honest mistake, he didnt know at the time that what he said was wrong, we all make mistakes and so does he, its not his fault.
@@emiliobello2538 Musically, Earned it. I think the problem here is that although it is the best song, people (rightly) had issues with the film. And really this is not an award for the best song as such, it is an award for the best song in a movie, and the context of the song in the movie and the movie itself is all important. Till it Happens to You, although I am definitely not a Diane Warren fan, I really don't like her sound, this was probably the best choice. There is a unique and important message in the song. Although I did not see the film, and I am not sure how it worked within it. If it is made integral into the storyline, like Naatu Naatu,(winner 2023) that would make it a strong contender. Writing on the Wall though is poor all round. It has a ponderous chord progression, is exhausting to listen to, without any particular message, and I am sure the film would work fine without it.
Still upset that Sam dedicated his awards towards the LGBT community without taking any time to mention Anohni, an transgender artist who was cleared boycotted by the Academy, for me it's just read as male cisgender privillege.

Nothing against Smith, but Writing´s on the wall doesn´t sound as a true Bond song at all because his voice just hasn´t got the charm and the mystery required to carry out the track of a film saga like this. Especially compared with iconic themes such as Thunderball or even Skyfall. Hence, that oscar was totally undeserved.
