Here's a station sign-off and national anthem sequence, preceded by the ending moments of the Monster Rally Movie presentation of the original "Night of the Living Dead" [1968] on WSNS Channel 44.
Includes:
Last approx. 15 seconds of the movie (what's a TV airing from a 16mm film complete without the picture cutting out about a second before the sound?)
Closing title sequence, with the host John Dickinson lumbering away without comment (theme: "Fear (Main and End Title)" by Harry Lubin, most famously used as theme from One Step Beyond)
PSA for U.S. Department of Health, Education and Welfare - Social Security Administration (ending voiceover by Peter Thomas)
Station sign-off (voiceover by Mal Wyman) starts at 1:06
Custom made "SSB" video featuring the Star-Spangled Banner along with such images as open fields (not the type that owned rival WFLD Channel 32), various shots of the Chicago skyline at night, portion of front windshield of Flxible "New Look" bus in service to CTA, and ending with Old Glory flying outside
Cutting of carrier, leaving nothing but Gaussian white noise static for the next few hours
This aired on local Chicago TV early Saturday, October 13, 1979 at about 1:00am.
About The Museum of Classic Chicago Television:
The MCCTv (FuzzyMemoriesTV) is a 501(c)(3) non-profit whose primary mission is the preservation and display of off-air, early home videotape recordings (70s to early 80s, mostly) recorded off of TV (in Chicago or other cities now too); things which would likely be lost if not sought out and preserved digitally. If you have any old 1970s videotapes recorded off of TV please email: tapes@fuzzy.tv Even though (mostly) short clips are displayed here, we preserve the entire broadcasts in our archives - the complete programs with breaks (or however much is present on the tape), for historical preservation. For information on how to help in our mission, to donate or lend tapes to be converted to digital, please e-mail tapes@fuzzy.tv Thank you for your help!

This gave me goosebumps to see again! It was this showing of NOTLD on Monster Rally that made me want to become a fiction writer. I remember after this was over, the nine-year-old me grabbed some paper and tried to write out as much of the story as I could remember (no VCR yet). It was the first movie I ever had to cover my eyes for! Couldn't believe what I was seeing. I've been a fan of George Romero ever since! What an awesome find!

The two WSNS sign-offs from 1981 were much briefer, and both transitioned out from ON-TV to simply say "good night" before bringing the carrier to a gradual cut. And one or both had a brief tone as the carrier was being cut.

This was great to see. I remember watching tv sign on with my grandmother in the early morning hours but not sign offs. Life seemed much better back then

I love the ‘ghosting’ due to multipath signals! Here in the Netherlands much of the households received tv via cable in the eighties, but the local cable companies themselves picked the stations of air via antennas on a high building. There was no direct (discrete) feed from the tv-stations. When the legal station went off air, tv-pirates ‘took over’ by beaming into the receiving antennas of the cable-company. Those were the days…

I wasn't born yet in 1979, but I am old enough to have seen the days of channel signoffs/signons. So somehow this still makes me feel old.

I think the sound goes on after the picture on NOTLD on purpose. Every 16 or 35mm print I've seen does that. Even every DVD and VHS. However they could just be transfers of the same tv print

Can anyone verify I’m not losing my mind, wasn’t there a “Monstrous Movie on channel 32” commercial in the mid late seventies? I believe there was, but I can’t seem to find a reference to it, or I’m just not recalling the commercial correctly. (I ask due to the “Monster Rally movie” spot in the video.)
