''if you expect anything out of music, you expect too much'' - if I'd heard those words 10 years ago , maybe I wouldn't be so sour and disillusioned. Fuck fame, success, validation, just fuckin do it

No disrespect, AT ALL, but this started playing, and I couldn't get to it to change because I have all my blacksmith kit on, but you struck a chord (pun intended) when you started talking about creativity, then I couldn't switch off. Nice one brother, from an English guy hidden deep in a French forest (not a euphemism). Best wishes from a new fan! 👏👏👏

Homme is an original. His music doesn’t sound like anyone else. First heard QOTSA in ‘99 off their debut album and I’ve been interested ever since. He makes writing, playing, soloing, singing and performing look and sound good. And effortless. Not jealous yet? You will be.

You can learn a lot about how to be in a band the right way, from this interview. I listen to it during cocaine come-downs, often, and take different things away from it, every time.

every time you hear the word 'desert', you gotta take a scorpion barb to the forearm. i remember listening to this when it was released. the context Josh gives with regard to this record hit me so hard when i first heard it. it's like, beauty, terror, fuck it, and love. there is nothing out of place on Like Clockwork. everything fits and hits so hard when you know even just a bit of the story. truly authentic and consistent in its aesthetic the entire way through. i'm just getting to the bit where they begin discussing his health and Like Clockwork @1:03:00, but i wanted to pause and get this outta my system because i'm getting the chills already. i remember a quote from this that i absolutely love. i'm gonna butcher it cuz i'm not clicking ahead for you fuckers, but when josh has doubts about releasing a song called 'vampyre of time and memory' and he says to his wife, 'no one wants to hear that depressing shit' -- she encourages him to do it because it's real. those last 30 minutes are potent. bye bye black balloon

Last Queens album was a masterpiece imo. I also like the respect this guy has for rock n roll. He is very much like Dave Grohl -- an ambassador for rock.

@@juanh6334 Yep. Dave Grohl comes off as an arrogant spoiled kid. I love his drumming in Nirvana and definitely enjoy some FF songs and he's an incredibly talented musician and a hard worker, but he's annoying. Josh Homme and Mark Lanengan are much more humble and are as talented as Grohl in their own right but don't crave the constant attention like Grohl does. Ugh.

Marc interviews Josh Homme so much better than Rogan. In fact maybe Marc is just so much better an int.... well anyway.
@coryvincent1932
@coryvincent1932 3 года назад
Rogan has no appreciation for art, thus he has no reference point when interviewing musicians. Always wants to talk "The business". Billy Corgan bailed him out, but usually it's real bad.

Rogan ruins any guest especially musicians. Josh Homme Henry Rollins James Hettfield to name a few.

So grateful I had a chance to see them open up for Rage Against the Machine in 2007 at Alpine Valley front row. It was an outdoor venue, it rained, and everyone was covered in mud head to toe. Not only was it the most fun I've ever had at a concert, I knew I was seeing something important.

@@VossGiannis they had one remaining member by 2007 from their first three albums. that’s not the same band, its josh going solo under a different name. look up a show from 2002 where lanegan comes out to sing a third of the set, or grohl on drums, and most importantly Nick Oliveri who co-wrote a lot of the music with Josh.

Boomer is still kicking strong in Fatso Jetson as well as the inimitable and ever underappreciated Yawning Man. Yawning Man were another staple at those generator parties in the late 80s but wouldn’t release their proper debut album until around 2005. Been killing it ever since. Highly recommend their album rock formations or their latest live at giant rock but everything they’ve done is totally awesome. They are definitely at the post punk/cosmic/Psychedelic end of the desert spectrum. Gary Arce the guitar player is absolutely one of a kind.

now is the right time’ kids....dreams come true...of course Santa is real.., light weight...(it’s not wrong, but it is easy) He is conceited enough and full of his self belief and incredibly lucky that in 2000-2002 rock music had one last gasp.. .and he helped make that luck, and that success of rock at the very end...I say hopefully. don’t give up guys and girls, I am struggling , for real...but if you want some advice about creativity listen to Iggy Pop on this WTF podcast. I am happy to be there...to have made it...I have heard that before from rock people like this..but not from artists living as artists.
