Bread Man The bombers missed their mark due to bad weather. The front line defenses were still in good condition. Simple History the youtube channel has published a video regarding D-Day.
@@J_W1 The bombers were ordered by Allied High Command to drop their bombs several seconds late to avoid hitting the incoming landing craft, which meant that most of the tons of ordinance dropped missed their intended targets and left the defenders and their positions almost entirely unscathed.
Alright, who wrote this script and missed the history lesson? 1. Bombings missed. 2. The soldiers didn't leave the safety of the bunkers until the naval bombardment was over, and they saw Allied soldiers approaching the beachhead. 3. If it weren't for Operation Fortitude(A diversionary operation part of Operation Bodyguard, which was part of Operation Neptune, to draw panzer units and the mass of German troops away from Normandy to Pas-De-Calais, in order for the Allied Landing Party could establish control of the beaches and start bringing in reinforcements and supplies.) We would've likely have lost at D-Day, because of how much didn't go to plan(Bombers missed, Paratroopers landed miles off target, etc.).
@@pattersonstopmotions1282 I get that it isn't a documentary but they could have at least taken a look at the actual history of the battle. Not denying that it doesn't look amazing, just annoyingly inaccurate.
@@bryandoles4227 You dont even know who is the director, hes technically korean, a war film shouldn't be as accurate as you think, they can do whatever they want, you cant judge them. It doesnt mean its bad if its innacurate because is really not
Oma Johnson This movie was as embellished as Hollywood movies are about WW2 German soldiers. Both are extremely biased. I think it’s refreshing just to see something different. Even though it’s not historically accurate. It’s not just another movie made out of the same mold.
@@bageled_meme2690 the problem is this one isn't a Hollywood movie, and is more than embellished. Like I get the fact that they can't really make it fully appreciate how long the allies were stuck on the beach but they could at least skip forward time wise. And the Allied bombing was completely horid. Even films that are Hollywood don't show that (saving private ryan)
Like in band of brothers. Band of brothers: 10 american soldiers kill 10000 german soldiers Reality: Germans killed double the amount of soldiers on the western front then they lost
Bombers real life weren't really aimed at the beaches in the first place that was the shore bombardment ships role, bombers where to hit the rear echelons areas such as artillery ETC.
Something else about the preliminary bombing run. The bombers were using a new system to find their target (radar I think) however a large number of the higher ups didn’t trust the new system so ordered the bombers to wait another like 30 seconds to drop their bombs. For bombers, 30 seconds might as well be a city away
you would be correct if this was Omaha beach but its actually meant to be Utah, the landings on Utah started at 06:30 and the beach was almost entirely secure by 08:30

I actually dont belive this is accurate. The beach landing was during stormy weather amd the tide was terrible. The B17 bombers missed there mark by a lot due to that weather leaving the bunkers rather untouched. Imdont know much about the bunkers though. On a side note, youve been there?
In germany it was a bit diffrent at the end. They didn´t hate what was in front of them, but feared what was behind them. Namely the SS/Officers and executions on the spot if they even thought of deserting.
@Transylvanian MGTOW monk That's a quote from early 20th century British writer G.K. Chesterton and the actual quote is, "The true soldier fights not because he hates what is in front of him, but because he loves what is behind him.”
Because I'm that kind of person, here's all the things that I saw were wrong with this: 0:00 This never happened. The bombs dropped about 5 miles behind enemy lines because it was cloudy and the pilots didn't trust the radar as it was recent tech. None of the bunkers or any bit of the beaches were damaged via aircraft 0:26 The Nazis were only caught slightly off-guard because the assault started at 6am and half of them were asleep. The ships were easily visible to the ones awake and they were more than ready before any of the allies laid a foot on the beaches 0:45 None of the AA weapons were this close to the beach; They were at least 500ft behind the "Atlantic Wall" (nickname for the fortifications along the Normandy beaches). The AA this close also never fired because the planes that did fly over were committing a nighttime raid, and none of the AA guns this close to the beach were aware of their existence 1:05 No fighter planes were used during the start of Operation Overlord 1:32 The ships that were deploying the Higgin's boats did not fire upon the beaches until the beaches were almost fully taken. This is because in order to stay out of range of Nazi artillery, they had to stay too far out at sea for them to be able to fire. They only fired very late into the marine invasion because it would have meant a complete commitment to the mission and a possible sacrifice of the ships, a risk that would only be taken if they were sure of the mission's success 1:32 They did not send out this many Higgin's boats at the beginning of the invasion. The boats came in waves smaller than this, although more in total were sent out throughout the whole 3 hour mission 1:58 The point in the beach that they landed on was nowhere near this shallow, and almost no one made it going out the front of the Higgin's boats in the first wave. Most of them dove off the edge of the boat, which would drown quite a few of them, as most of them were seasick carrying 80+ pounds of gear diving into 10ft deep water 2:02 The Nazis would have started firing long before this, let alone before the ramps dropped 2:10 On Omaha beach, which I assume this is supposed to be depicting (there were 5 beaches: Sword, Gold, Juno, Utah, and Omaha, the bloodiest and most famous of them all), the Americans were not able to run this far into the beach on the first wave, as most were pinned down behind dead bodies of their friends or tank blockades for cover under heavy suppressing fire from all angles up the wall of the beach while trying to not get blown up by mortars, artillery, and mines 2:16 The beach in this scene seems to be at most 300ft long. Assuming this is Omaha again, this beach would have been 1000ft long, strewn with tank blockades and anti-boat ramps for the first few hundred and the rest being covered in mines and barbwire lines. It took the Americans 3 hours to advance along the whole beach and start to fight back, at which point the tides shrunk the beach almost up to the wall, which happened to be one of the bigger motivators to get soldiers to move up the beach 2:25 Americans grouped up like this would have been completely annihilated. The MG42 (the Nazi machineguns being used in this scene) fired at a minimum of 1200 rounds per minute, earning it the nickname "Hitler's Buzzsaw" because it sounded similar to a saw being used when fired. It also shot 7.92x57mm Mauser, which is a really big round if you didn't know. That size of rounds going downrange that quickly would tear apart any soldier before they'd realize they hit the ground, not to mention how many of those were posted up and shooting onto the beaches. All a Nazi would have had to do was spray in the general direction of any of these groups and they'd all be dead in about a second or so. Multiple of those posted up and I think you can see why groups like this wouldn't have lasted this far into the beach 2:31 Why is there a Nazi standing in front of the sandbags? Is he suicidal? Does he need a hug? 2:35 As discussed previously, this is about half the minimum firerate of the actual MG42. In the amount of time these machineguns are seen firing, the barrels would've started getting a bit red 2:42 The grapple mortars were not used on the beach section of Omaha. They were used specifically by the rangers who had to scale a cliffside as their mission was to attempt to take out the artillery positions behind the lines of the Nazis This concludes my Ted-talk
It missed alot of its shots cause the command/ higher ups told them to wait for a few extra seconds before dropping the bomb to avoid "missing it's target"
@@thibaud9269 okay. I'll put it like this. Dont quote me on it because nothing is 100% true. But the ww2 bombings were recorded to be so powerful that it would send shockwaves to space. It was the equivalent of around 300 lightning strikes. Now let's take the concrete huts they were in that had like 2 feet of concrete over there heads. I'll give em the benefit of the doubt, they were thought places. But not only this. They had enemy soldiers coming in for miles. So not only were the bunkers not gonna do anything but get them crushed in groups and if they weren't crushed they'd be handicapped if not killed by the soldiers invading once found or taken as pow's. So yes it was smarter for them to leave those bunkers and spread out that way one bomb wouldn't kill as many people. And what I said previously doesnt apply to this situation only that they COULD do it. But ground troops were more focused on suppressing fire on the waves of enemies coming in. Until they had their head on their shoulders enough to deal with the planes and all that good stuff. Idk man that's just how they were trained. The germans weren't expecting it. And idc how long you've trained. Or what branch you are. If you're under attack. Especially when you arent expecting it. You will panic and lose train of thought and adrenaline will take over and soldiers have that if under attack. Shoot back mentality. So I mean yeah not all choices they made were smart obviously but staying in those places was just suicide. There were hundreds of planes. And soldiers coming in by the second. It's not like they could wait for them to stop. Mine as well go out taking a few with you. Or at least trying.
The movie is portraying Utah beach. The aerial bombing and naval bombardment were highly effective on Utah and the initial beachhead was established with minimal casualties.
@@michaelm.3641 still really wrong, the bombing wasnt done during the day but during the night, there was fog and bunkers never looked like that. They even did it wrong in private Ryan
I just want to point out the fact that this is a film about a Korean Soldier being conscripted in the Imperial Japanese army, Soviet Red army, and then the Wehrmacht during the war.
Nikkolamur If you know any thing about the D-day landings then you’ll know they came in at low tide. The soldiers who landed there said it was like running 3 football fields to get to the beach fortifications; which is why I said it was 6 times longer.
@@Magnus_Opus I've been to Normandy and visited the Landing beaches. They were really long but they weren't 6 times longer. They were about double of the ones seen on the video. And yes I visited at low tide and observed how the tide increase throughout the day as I visited their museum too.
@@reallyhappenings5597 that’s really interesting, I read that they used to have mines attached to them. Do you think a wooden frame would be capable of stopping a landing craft? It seems a bit more reasonable than stopping a tank but I’m still not convinced.
This movie “My Way” was made by a Korean company. At one point the two main characters are forced into the Soviet Army and participate in an attack that almost lifted straight from “Enemy at the Gates”.
Actually you're the one that doesn't know history this is the best representation I have ever seen as a history teacher. The only thing missing is he heavy equipment getting stuck at the beach.
But imagine how terrifying it was for the Germans too, just seemingly endless waves of Americans streaming out of boats, seemingly without fear, coming to kill the guy who just killed one of their team mates
@XxxRainxxX bro obviously allies I mean its like the entire rest of the globe versus german and japan, and ig italy if u can even count them before they switched. the axis didn't know their spawn and was just getting spawned trapped so much.
@XxxRainxxX true true. but as an option if you just corner camp spawn u could make it so Russian couldn't go anywhere by spawn trapping them. then using italy as a defense against the allies from the west along with any backup axis units. the key is to corner camp 😎

i’ve been realizing something. Germany signed the treaty, also knowing that WW2 would happen soon. The signed it because they knew the strong countries wouldn’t be back in shape in that quick of time.
This reminds me of a joke the German forces told to their fellow solders...."if you see green planes, that's the British air force....if they are white, it's the americans...if you see nothing, that's the German luftwaffa..."
@@Mpqtelevanta before the invasion of France the German forces were stationed around the beach area... they were supposed to have air support in the case of the americans invading but Hitler wanted them on the eastern front due to the increasing number of military might coming from the Russians... that's why the joke was made because the German forces in France didn't have air support.
Europe: "fiuf, were done with the war guys, now lets make sure this never happens again" Germany: "Hallo guys, we are doing a sequel. WW2: now it's personal"

I guess it was a huge effort to cover the whole war in an only one movie.. it was a good movie however
Hassan Rao The only beaches that suffered heavy casualties was Omaha and Juno beach. All defences were taken out at sword, gold and Utah. Few hours later battleships eventually fired at defences at Omaha.
This is actually pretty good as an amalgam of the stories and perceptions from all of the sectors on all of the miles of beaches involved. What I want to know is how all of the naval gun support was made up of more Cleveland class-ish cruisers than were ever made.
I once read that the allied ships missed most of their barrages due to beeing to far away from the shore and that only one ship actualy hit the bunkers because the captain flooded a section of the ship to get a better angle. The later sounds like a myth thou.
Pretty sure the bombing took place earlier when the Germans were still in the bunkers and was mostly ineffective. Same with most of the heavy naval gunfire.

Hollywood is just Leftist propaganda nowadays, so no wonder 0% accuracy.
Most bombs from planes landed fa away from the intended target. So yeah. Moreover, the battleships are not in range because there are coastal guns positioned.
1) the allied bombers almost completely missed the fortifications 2) nearly all of the troops in the first landing died before reaching even halfway up the beach and it took waves upon waves of landing craft and tanks to make any progress on the beach
they missed Omaha, the Bombings at Utah (the beach this scene is set at) were effective as they flew extremely low, the only inaccurate part of the bombings in this movie was the planes used, these are B-17s and the bombers that bombed Utah were B-26 Marauders
@@jbruv2393 I'm just putting it out there. I'm in the minority in this situation because most people laugh their asses off reading boys vs. girls jokes. So I have every right to give my opinion. Have fun on r/dankmemes
This is definitely not accurate at all. The bombing raid was unsuccessful by miles inland and it was cloudy. Planes did not strafe the beach during the boat landings and there were naval bombardments
I know on the Juno side The the bombers ran towards the beach overshot the beach and over 1000ft passed the houses Fighter cover was weak at best for any ground targets Thier role was shoot down fighters and bombers Grandfather said it wasn't till the next day that he saw Typhoons shooting rockets in the distance
@@lemmy6782 - Artistic license; good representation of what the Allied High Command intended and expected but not what actually happened. More like an action game version than history.
The distance from the German Division was further than that beach on Omaha. While the bombardment was on they were in their bunkers. They didn’t stand 2 into their positions till it ceased to allow the Rangers to hit the beach. Ship bombardment fell well behind the bunkers.
Keegan Firecloak war is never smoothly that’s what I don’t understand. Of course there were defaults where they almost lost but war can never be smoothly as long as there’s killing involved
@@alimjuliam582 I don't think there is much difference in the German versus allied accounts of what happened on D-day. Serious historians rely on accounts from both sides.
@@N-JKoordt I think that that really happened cause the Germans were only present during the bombardment on the beach. Before the allied arrived and if there was bad weather how did the allies know that none of their bombs hit their targets. They in the air over the clouds.
@@alimjuliam582 I can only recommend reading one or more of those big books written on the operation. I'm sure the movie shows a condensed version of some of the events. The allies could assess the damage after they arrived. And it all depends on what beach section this is supposed to be. Omaha Beach was the only place where strategic bombers were used, but it does not look like that beach, nor does the fast advance.
This is a great cinematic display but I agree with what others have said, the air attacks on the beaches were not that effective at all and it wasn't a sunny day it was overcast

It's not even close to Utah beach either considering they more or less were able to walk up the beach, and only accounted minimal arty rounds on the beach, and there was virtually no German defences on Utah
Aside from whether this is factually correct or not, the basics of what it’s portraying did happen. And the thought of being a young lad on a boat confronted by that terror is mind boggling. My great granddad was killed on the road to Caen on day two. Haunting.

@Pablo Lens-Gallardo Also judging from the terrain and carnage, this is Omaha. Utah was a walk in the park. 200 US casualties, including wounds, total of the WHOLE DAY.
A lot of people don't realise that there were several beaches that had landings on them. This clip is not of the Omaha landing where the Allied bombers missed. Also, in those days the beaches were shorter than today because they hadnt been eroded away. Notice how the bunkers in other parts of the world are all lying on the beach today whereas back then they were up on a cliff.
Yeah, in omaha beach us bomber missed almost every target because of cloud. But in utah beach us bomber flew under the cloud and they got many target, as the result landing in the beach was successful. I saw this from nat geo last week. But correct me if I wrong

Most of the beaches were only defended by mercenarys, that's why they went down so easy and Omaha was giving heavy resistance, because they had real troops on Omaha. The Germans lost d-day because they needed troops when they called Hitler he was sleeping. (In the eyes of the German when they need Hitler most he let them down) the Germans still didn't back down with out fight.
