We are exploring a WW2 Transmitting Underground Station in Dingli. This site is closed to the general public, but thanks to MATS (Malta Air Traffic Services) we got permission to explore this site. This underground complex was excavated during 1941. We had an old map to go on, and during our exploration we added 2 other tunnels to the map as well. This site is in a very good condition. Here we find manly 3 rooms, Generator Rooom with a very small room for a radio operator, an equipment room which housed the transformers and a operations room. Also have 3 ventilation tunnels, one of which end in the cliff face. This was used during the world war 2 mainly to give alerts to the Valletta stations when an air raid was detected.
Special thanks :
MATS - Malta Air Traffic Services
CEO Kenneth Chircop
Major Tony Abela
Manwel Gauci Project Manager
Hope you enjoy.

My late father was a petty officer in the Royal Navy, he spent some time instructing at Dingli. My mother and I joined him in 1950, and we lived at Zabbar, 151, Sanctuary Street, the landlord was a poliveman by the name of Attard. We later moved to G'zira. My brother was born at the military hospital at Imtarfa Military hospital.

SAC Dave Tupling ex RAF Dingli I was stationed there in transmitters section 1955 to 1957 and one of our jobs was t.o go down there every week to run up the station standby Diesel generators for test. Dingli was a great posting.

@@PierreFarrugia Hi no I was only on Dingli as I was stationed there and worked and was a member of the TX / RX section staff. As I said earlier 203SU RAF Dingli was a great camp to be posted too and my time there was great. Before my posting to Malta I had been stationed at SWSC RAF Hawthorn this was a total underground signals unit and part of the UK network. If you look up RAF Hawthorn, RAF Rudlow Manor or Burlington City on the net you will see the underground system as it was a massive area underground and security wise very big at the time but De classified now.

@@PierreFarrugia Hi There is a good read up about SWSC among the info and you will be supprised at it I am sure. I worked there but was not aware of some of the things which were housed down there as security wise we only moved around our section. You will see the old main switch boards where I did work sending traffic to where it was intended to go in UK or abroad, I also worked in the telprinter rooms and ticker tape area. I spent 18 months there during the cold war. When not underground we had our own rooms above ground at RAF Rudlow Manor but were not part of that station.

AMAZING DISCOVERY OF A HISTORIC WW2 PLACE! 😲. Very interesting & well maintained man-made tunnels - a lot of ingenuity must have gone into contruction to rid of generators' diesel fumes & heat 🖋 📐 📝. What a view from exhaust tunnel 🌊 ☀. Loved it. Great vlog PIERRE & Angelo🚶🚶⛑ 🕳 🔦 ⛑ 🎥 👏. Cheers 👍 🇲🇹 ♥ 🇪🇺 ©
