Imo, that Triple Threat Match is severely underrated. That match was absolutely crazy, and there were actually many insane spots. Also, imo, there is zero way that underground match was better than the Triple Threat lol
Ngl I don’t think Oba Femi should lose a match on NXT as well, you literally have Br0ck L3sner with a promo package double champ is necessary before the next draft
Roxanne just didn't sell much for Jordynne. Like she would kick out too early, stand up immediately from moves, she never looked like she was in pain, and would even outstrike her. Good match, but selling was weird. Heck even Jordynne started kicking out before 1.
Bro really rated the underground match over Oba? The only spot was the mid air throw? Not Oba dual suplex? Not the crazy finish? Oba rising and the you fucked up chants? Odd.
One thing I notice about Sooplex is that his match ratings are highly dependent on the match result and predictability more than what's happening in the ring. Everyone expected OBA to win while the underground match was a toss up, which is why he rated it more positively.
Literally, the first NXT PPV I watched since NXT Takeover 36. I have been watching WWE (main roster) & AEW consistently since 2022 and it was really good. I have been watching AEW since 2019, so OG fan here because before AEW I was watching at that time ROH & NJPW consistently from 2009 to 2019 and AEW took that ROH spot faster than a new J-pop song. I watched WWE (including NXT) & TNA originally as they were the two wrestling companies I mainly watched from 2005 to 2015. With the ROH & NJPW content, I used to live next door to one of my friends named Shane and one thing we would do is watch ROH & NJPW events as he had that. He left in 2020 since we were both 19 and his mom and dad got jobs in Pennsylvania. So, from 2019 - 2022 it was AEW & NJPW before New Japan started getting stale like pretzels. I heard it's picking back up so maybe I will watch it again when I can afford it myself I usually watch WWE PPVs at my friend's house who is named Nick as he has a network subscription.
See, as a long time mma fan and someone with years in MMA gyms, i was taken out of the NXT Underground match from the first second. They were clearly throwing very light strikes to the head and intentionally coming up short or landing on shoulders, and up until the end, any time they were striking it felt like light gym sparring. Taking a sport where you can throw convincing working punches, and throwing that out so you can throw onviously pulled and safe shoot strikes just didnt work for me. The triple threat was my match of the night but with how the NXT title match was laid out, I'm entirely confused why the women, either the NA title or womens NXT championship didnt headline the show.
Here are my Star Ratings for NXT Battleground 2024 Based on my Opinion: The 6 Women Ladder match for The (NXT Women's North American Champion) - 4 STARS Nathan Frazer and Axiom vs The Good Brothers (NXT Tag Team Championship) - 3 STARS Lola Vice vs Shayna Beszler (NXT Underground Match) - 4 STARS Oba Femi vs Wes Lee vs Joe Coffey (NXT North American Championship) - 4.5 STARS Roxxane Perez vs Jordynne Grace (NXT Women's Champion) - 4.5 STARS Trick Williams vs Ethan Page (NXT Championship) 3.25 The Show Overall 6.5/10
It was just kind of weird to me. The whole show was. The hammerfists in the Underground match were clearly worked which took me out of it, and I was disappointed by the finishes to the Mens and Women's title matches. The crowd was similar to an iMPACT crowd which threw me off since it was an NXT show. Stand and Deliver was far better in my opinion.
Honestly I hate the Trick Knee as a finish. The past 3 big matches that Trick had against Carmelo Hayes, Ilja Dragunov, and now Ethan Page, all ended with that move out of nowhere at a really awkward time and it honestly kind of ruins the match for me.
One, those are some random choices. Two, I actually think Je'von Evans might end up doing it, or Wes Lee. I think they're gonna go with a cruiserweight to beat Oba.
