Finn Balor had to lose at a house show. He couldn't lose on taping because spoilers, and he couldn't lose at takeover because they want to keep the demon undefeated
The next TakeOver won't happen for a while, and I think they wanted Bálor to head to the main roster without the title. Rollins, Big E, and Owens (Neville if you count the match he had on RAW in 2014) are the only guys to debut as NXT Champion.
Browncoat Allywang Huh? Why would people know what ahppened in a set of tapping before they watch it? I don't know about everyone else but I don't know what happened in a show before I see it.
animehbkscm Even if you don't go out of your way to look for spoilers, the NXT champion losing the title on a taped show would be all over the internet. Take this for example,it was the top trending topic on Facebook.
How WWE should've booked THE CM Punk title reign?!Cause I think he should've beaten the rock with john cena doing a lil assist(setting the rematch) and Taker winning the rumble facing Punk for the title...so yeh...
If this is a work in order to send Balor up to the main roster then I'm genuinely impressed with WWE. Nobody saw it coming and those fans in Massachusetts really got their money's worth. Payback could be the change we want to see in the company.
Bought the tickets why? To give NXT money? Here's a little fact, you insufferable tosspot, i can't leave my country, the borders are closed because of the immigrants, and i am 17 years old, which makes me immature, and i would need the consent of my parents to leave here, which i will never get! I also don't have the money to either BUY the tickets nor afford to travel all the way TO AMERICA (which requires plane travel, tickets going from 200$ to 1500$ in my country), so...yeah, i'm not a real "fan", sorry i wasn't born 2 seconds from this arena, douchebag.
+Bruce Tull main roster* he's already in the WWE. Also MITB is a stupid concept (the ladder match is awesome though), but it's a get out of jail free card for WWE. And hey, they tend to waste whoever wins it. (Damien Sandow, Dolph Ziggler, Daniel Bryan)
+DER BAUS that would be awesome! but it probably won't happen since WWE is going for Reigns as the big Champion and is now booking him against the internets Darling AJ Styles
This could be Balor's last NXT show, but I wouldn't read too much into him bowing at the end of the show. I've been to several NXT house shows and Balor bowed at the end of all of them.
If he injured his ankle back in February, it might be semi-serious, semi-shoot. He could need to take some time to recover, but also use the time to push him up to the main roster for the Bullet Club angle.
I think somoa Joe was suppose to win at takeover but after he started bleeding like a vampire's wet dream they changed the finish. WWE is still PG even though they're moving away from it. You can't have a Champion bloody holding up a world title. Even though that's Badass it won't sell a lot of action figures.
I think having Balor lose it in a house show made sense. 1. Joe didn't beat the demon. 2. Finn Balor needs to be moved up to the main roster. 3. Not every title should've changed hands at takeover.
This is what they should do... Balor comes in during Styles match forming the 4-man bullet club and letting Styles win. Then we get a 4 on 4 rivalry between BC vs Reigns, Usos, and Rock
Let me fix it up for you, how about Finn comes and screws both styles and Reigns at the PPV holding up the title at the end of the show. Then at Extreme Rules it's a triple threat match for the title in which due to the bullet club Balor wins and takes out AJ in the process. After this Shane sets up a 6 man tag for the next PPV with Reigns and the Usos against the BC the man who gets the pin in the match faces Balor. But the night before The Usos are attacked and unable to compete, so at the PPV Reigns has to go in alone. The PPV hits and Reigns is walking to the ring and gets on the mic and says "You guys are one of second the greatest factions of all time, now allow me to introduce you to the first." Out comes Dean Ambrose and Seth Rollins to team with Reigns. Rollins picks up the pin in a excellent match and is set to face and beat Balor at the next PPV or two leading up to Summerslam where we can finally get the dream match Shield triple threat.
***** Very true, he wanted or they wanted to see him break Neville's reign. It would make sense. But it's just weird how it wasn't even on NXT or not even a taping but maybe he's going to be at Payback WWE has me actually confused and excited to sse where they go with this
".... in Lowell Massachusetts" thanks, we love you to, Whatculture. It was a magic match though. As someone who was there, Finn hit a running dropkick after getting back into the ring, got up on the turnbuckle as if he was going to try for a Coup de Grace before getting muscle bustered. They played up the ankle by having him worked over while Joe was postering with the belt, then he was stood up, bowed and helped out of the ring before everyone was rushed out of the building. (probably was running late) AND THEN! outside while a drunk was getting loaded up into an ambulance, a bunch of smarter people wondered to the back where the buses were, got hugs and such from Bayley and the last one out before the buses left was Finn. I didn't see any crutches or limp but I was a few bus lengths from here he was standing. He did get off again though and shouted something (i won't spoil what he said) before getting cheered again and back on the bus for Kingston RI tonight. .... So i'm praying my battery lasts this time!
Just look through twitter, a lot of NXT stars running variants on ThankYouBalor. As a rolled ankle isn't career ending it's a fair bet it's a work & he's off to main. Clever really: protects Finn so he's not going into the main event card on back of a big loss, the Demon is still undefeated so keeps that alive for PPV and NXT has a a big monster heel for Nakamura to go after. Plus unfinished business between Joe and Finn for future use if the opportunity arises. Plus Payback is in Chicago this year so if they do debut him there the crowd is likely to go nuts!
Curious that it changed hands at a house show. Wondering if WWE kept the strap on Balor at TakeOver: Dallas to have him break the record for longest reigning NXT champ? Fairly sure he surpassed that the other day.
Perhaps Joe's just a transitional champion. I can't imagine it will take long for Shinsuke to win the title. Plus that way they can save Shinsuke vs Finn for the main roster.
In 2007, Mickie James won the Women's championship in a non-televised house show in Paris.... Which was apparently a botch, since she lost it later the same night (back to melina). (I don't think it's a mistake here tho)
Wwe aren't stupid they know the world is watching even when they aren't televised. I think it's finn's time, aj wins at payback to win the championship, in kicks Finn balor's music. Everyone loses their shit!
+mikeyxbox The thing is, AJ is not going to win against Roman and if he does, it sure as hell won't be clean. You think WWE are going to put Mr. TNA over future Mr. WWE? Haha.
I think it works. Joe and Balor have been feuding for a good half a year now, and while their matches have been good, I've noticed some people starting to feel fatigued with the feud, so if they had built up for another big match I think people might have started to turn on it. This way you can get the title off of Fin and get a bit of extra shock factor by having it at a house show. Also it means that we don't actually see the demon being beaten on TV. I've always been of the mindset that the demon is something that really needs to be protected to keep it special, Balor should not loose while wearing the paint, which of course would make it difficult to take the title off of him in a big match setting. So having Joe nab it in a house show when, kayfabe wise, Balor's guard was down, actually works for me.
+pdragon619 Works for me as well. It shows WWE are thinking out of the box if Balor comes into the main roaster with Bullet Club. As fans, we can't act all negative about WWE when they're trying to push young stars into good storylines, which hopefully this will develop into.
It's obviously a work. If he had really just gotten injured in the match like that then they wouldn't have made the sudden decision to have the title change hands, Joe would've gotten DQed or something.
Just imagine... Bullet Club, Anderson and Gallows stand at ringside during AJ Styles match against Roman Reigns. AJ Styles pins Roman with the Styles Clash. Styles is the new WWE World Heavyweight Champion. Finn Balor's music hits. Out comes the Ex-NXT Champ walking to the ring in regular form. Finn Balor gets in the ring and challenges the World Heavyweight Champ. This will set up the whole AJ Style, "You kicked me out of bullet club" rivalry
If WWE were to keep the continuity, This would be second time AJ has been betrayed by the Bullet (now Bálor) Club. Plus AJ somehow was on good terms with Anderson and Gallows since he didn't start fighting them as soon as he met them. That would make AJ look stupid because he is clueless to the fact that they'll turn on him at any moment.
It was mainly Balor that led Bullet Club to betray AJ, so having Balor come out and breaking them up wouldn't be as bad. This will set up a long term rivalry with Balor and AJ.
AJ Styles vs Roman Reigns theory or prediction: the ref is down and out. and its just reigns and aj in the ring. as it seems boring reigns is about to finish AJ off with a spear. luke and karl interferes and tries to stop reigns but this time reigns overpower them. after taking them out, reigns turns around to a chair shot to the head. From who??? Finn Balor. There u see aj styles looking confused and suprise, then him and balor then go face to face looking angry at each other, making it seems as if the two guys are about to engage in some fist until u see a smirk come across both aj styles and balors face. thats when u see aj puts up a gun hand sign and points it down at reigns and play it off as he shot reigns. thats when balor passes him the chair and aj begins beating the shit out of reigns with it. finn then gets out the ring as he tries to wake back up the ref, aj then goes for a springboard 450 on reigns as the ref makes the count. 1...2...3. AJ styles becomes the new champion. Balor gallows and anderson celebrates with him in the ring marking the BEGINNING of the bullet club debuted in the WWE.
Leeroynumanuma Yes, exactly. They need to make a brand split to change something. Maybe put younger and promising talent and maybe a few old talent to help them on Smackdown and give it a title to fight for. But keep older Superstars maybe with some young ones on Raw.
damn I know right, I just wish, hope , and hell even pray, that WWE shows us a glimmer of hope and give AJ the title even if it's a Kane sized title reign, but I feel like bullet club will turn on aj during the title match. oh well
I am just glad that... A = An established big league competitor has finally won the NXT Championship. What is the point of having folks like Rhyno and Zack Ryder come to NXT to "revitalize" their careers, if they are never going to be champ? B = A former TNA/Impact Wrestling megastar has won the title. It's bad enough that the WWE won't acknowledge TNA's existence (despite acknowledging several other territories around the world). If folks like Austin Aries, Bobby Roode, and (briefly) James Storm are being sent to NXT before the main WWE roster, then they should be working for more than just a bigger paycheck.
If you had asked me 10 years ago whether I would be happy to see Samoa Joe win any championship for WWE the answer would have been yes. Unfortunately, it's not 10 years ago.
Kevin Eames Oh, okay then. I hate it when people think that if you aren't in your lower 20s you shouldn't be champion and you're not pushing younger talent. I would be just fine if Jericho became Intercontinental Champion again or was the World Champion (instead of Reigns I should add. I would have Seth or Aj have it). If you can wrestle, and wrestle great, age doesn't matter.
ADAM! I was there live, front and center! What an amazing moment to cap off an awesome show. I know I'm a little bias but I think it was a pretty cool moment; Great way to please a sold out, pumped up crowd and show that (as you said) "anything can happen"... The ankle spot was definitely a work considering how he bowed and spoke to the parking lot crowd w/ no injury whatsoever. Say what you will, but I was satisfied! Also, in the words of Gregory Shane Helms, when it comes to the Massachusetts hate ~ "WAZ UP WIT DAT?!?!?"
Finn joins BC. They're a heel/tweener stable, which isn't a bad idea since you have a face authority. They'll feud with Roman until Seth comes back to reform The Shield. Which will happen because it's the only way to get Roman over. I expect them to add a new member too, depending on who they want to push.
I legit think WWE watched Adam's Booking of Balor Club and switched it some. He said Balor should debut and have the Bullet Club intervening when not wanted. But rather, they out Styles in that spot, and they're going to make them betray him and Balor Club will be started.
If a title is going to change hands at a house show that is not at MSG, Massachusetts seems like a safe bet. The Mountie went over Bret Hart for the IC title in Springfield, MA back in 1992. The Natural Disasters also went over Money Inc. for the tag titles at a house show in Worcester, MA the same year.
So I'm curious now. Do you think they're going to call Balor up? Ankle roll aside they normally pass the title down before bringing someone up. Bayley and Balor need to be in WWE.
you know wwe thinks highly of you when you win a title at a live event in a match NO ONE WILL EVER SEE, I WANTED TO SEE JOEVSBALOR 3 AND TRIPLE H RUINED THAT. "OH FINN BALOR BEEN CHAMP FOR 250+ DAYS LETS HAVE HIM DROP THE FUCKING TITLE AT A LIVE EVENT NO ONE WILL EVER SEE"
I was thinking about going to this show since I live about a half hour away from Lowell and I was like, "nah, I just went to smackdown last month anyways". And I COMPLETELY REGRET IT!!
In a random trivia note, Lowell, MA was also the host of the 2008 TNA Lockdown PPV where Samoa Joe beat Kurt Angle to become the TNA World Heavyweight Champion.
Some of my reporters noticed that NXT commentators on latest episodes seemed to be hyping more the house shows then usual, saying surprises happen, mentionning Owens appearance, Triple H's appearance and such... and putting more emphasis on the still ongoing story between Balor and Joe.
According to a Secret Insider on Reddit, it is picking up steam that this report may actually be true, either way I thought I'd post it for you all to see: ''According to a very respected source in WWE here is what is scheduled to happen with WWE storylines: Cesaro will not be winning the IC Title from Miz at Payback Apollo Crews feud is scheduled to be Ryback Vaudevillans will beat Enzo & Cass at Payback because the Dudleyz are screwing them over the Vaudevillans are then going to win the Tag Team Titles from New Day Bray Wyatt is not scheduled to be back anytime soon & the League Of Nations vs Wyatts match at Payback is in serious doubt unless WWE does a 3 on 2 Handicap match believe it or not WWE discussed in the last few days signing Eric Young & quickly debuting him on the main roster to join the Wyatts Natalya is not scheduled to win the Womens title despite the announcement of Bret Hart in her corner Dean Ambrose is scheduled to beat Chris Jericho at Payback Kevin Owens vs Sami Zayn will be feuding for a while You will all be suprised at what John Cena will do when he returns The Authority will return shortly to begin a feud with Shane McMahon leading to a match between Triple H & Shane McMahon at SummerSlam for control of WWE with a brand split shortly after & Roman Reigns is turning heel at Payback & joining forces with Doc Gallows & Karl Anderson & possibly the Usos forming the Roman Empire or The Empire There is talk of Seth Rollins returning soon & him teaming up with AJ Styles along with Dean Ambrose & debuting Finn Balor to battle the Empire. So there you go sit back relax & enjoy WWE big things are coming & dont say i didnt warn you ''
So many possibilities for Payback and WWE is still going to put BOOMAN REIGNS Over Aj Styles and that too in a Clean way. With no Bullet Club interference. SMH -.-'
WWE Payback: AJ Styles is about to beat Roman Reigns in the main event. Doc Gallows and Karl Anderson interfere and go after Regins, but cost Styles in the process via DQ. AJ turns to them and says 'what the hell, I almost had him... I never asked for you to do that.' *Fin Balor's music hits* Balor comes out and says "No, but I did."
I have two theories as to why he'd lose it at a house show of all things. First being, "Oh crap Bullet/Balor Club story is moving faster than expected, gotta get Balor to lose the title quickly," and the second being "Lets have him lose it at a house show so that it'll create surprise and hype for the next NXT pay-per-view/his arrival at Payback." Maybe both? Maybe his ankle is injured? Either way, I'm excited to see the Bullet Club.
