He's implying that hard work is not the end all be all of "getting that brass ring". Some ppl only work hard enough to not get fired, but then get to the top and get stupid. Paul Levesque as an employee is one of the best workers a company can have. He's never had a major out with the company, regardless of his relationships in it. Therein lies the truth of that "part of it"... You can have all those factors as a wrestler, but as an employee can you handle the workload and pressure of being at the top. Shawn Michaels was a dick, but got the job done in the 90s, and did an even better job once he redeemed himself. I mean I don't know, I'm just a casual fan. Trips could be making bad decisions behind the scenes... but in business that's how it usually goes. Employee dependency and all that.

I think I get what he meant. It's like picking the FACE of the company has nothing to do with who works the hardest, but when you do become the top guy, you must work the hardest to stay on top. I see HHH's point, but I still think other wrestlers are better choices than Roman as the face of the company.

@Thpider-Man comparing roman to any one of those is a strawman argument, name one time any of the greats you listed above got booed as a babyface a part from cena. smart fans realized very quickly how cena was being smashed over as the face of the company hence the "lets go cena, cena sucks" chants. simple fact is roman fits an ideal mold that vince has had since he took over the wwf from his father. the fans can boo until they are blue in the face but the company is going to continue to smash him over because vince has a tall built pretty boy fetish. the irony of this is the more they ignore their paying customers aka the fans, the more AEW becomes a legitimate threat to wwe. fanboys gunna fanboy an all but it really depresses me that modern fans excuse every decision in some BS way like you just did. in order for the show to get better you need to be critical of it, call out the company for horrible pushes, angles and writing. roman reigns is just a symptom of the larger issue in wwe. hell compare the 2020-2022's womens division matches to the attitude eras womens matches or even the ruthless aggression eras womens matches, this eras women "wrestlers" look Amateur and awkward in the ring which really says alot seeing as before wwe trish stratus never wrestled a day in her life as a fitness model. all the woman legends from the best era of wrestling all came non wrestling backgrounds but in their day of performed the best of this current era who have all been trained and or been in the business of wrestling for years before hitting the main roster. then you have the part timers like cena coming back and instantly getting pushed over people who have been around for decades and never given a chance. this is already to long but the problem the fanboys wont admit is vince is stuck in a cycle of cena, roman, brock, and rousey the result is viewership is dropping so vince decides to go on firing sprees every 6 months instead of breaking the cycle that is literally killing his company.

Completely agree. He doesnt feel natural at all. Like people are being forced to like him and it makes people not like him more. The same thing happened with Cena when he started, constantly got compared to attitude wrestlers, fans over the age of 18 hated him, constantly pushed by wwe but eventually fans gave him his dues. Maybe the same will happen with roman.
@smarty1268
@smarty1268 3 года назад
Not really, at least In the wwe working hard dosent mean much just like trips said a guy has to be smart about the people he’s talking to in the locker room cause look at trips was he the hardest worker? Not really but was he smart? Absolutely, he befriended the top guy at the time and formed a kliq and also befriended the boss of the company and then married his daughter so now he’s a 14 time champion..... So overall, trips had the look, had the right gimmick and knew how to get himself over and didn’t really have to work as hard as other guys and this isn’t really a bad thing when you really think about it.

Doesn't matter how hard you work. DOES matter how successful that work is. If your matches are crap, and your mic work is crap, and your audience engagement is crap, then you should not be getting the air time. The real commodity in the industry is not titles; it's time. You can be Women's Champion, Tag Team Champions, Intercontinental Champion, and still not get time on the show. And you can have no belt, but get 10 minute promo blocks and 25 minute match blocks. Love them or hate them, if a performer cannot get over with the audience, if they can't make the viewers actually become engaged in the stories and want to attend the shows, want to tune in for television, if they cannot put butts in seats, then they should not be getting that air time over people who can. When Daniel Bryan or CM Punk is getting the loudest response on the show, that's what people are paying to see. So that's what you need to be keeping engaged. Ignoring people while they are white-hot, or worse still burying them to try to intentionally kill their crowd appeal, is the WWE literally throwing away their own most valuable commodities. Unfortunately, all too often while the WWE is trying to "create superstars", trying to convince the crowd to like someone that they don't, the WWE's approach begins with trying to destroy all the incredibly valuable talent that the audience wants to see at the top instead. No other industry would look at their sales numbers and stop selling what is most popular, to double down on something that has been failing. It's a business, and it needs to be treated like one.
@michaelh3583
@michaelh3583 3 года назад
I 1000% agree. The WWE has time and time again buried stars that people were actively behind in favour of people that no one cared about. They'd bury someone like Bryan or Punk and instead force someone like Reigns into the picture. People wanted Kofi as champion, He got buried by Lesnar in 10 seconds. At a certain point when people realize the wrestle they like will never get over, They stop caring about the product and stop watching.

Triple H only got to the top for 2 reasons: 1. Shawn Michaels 2. Stephanie Mcmahon, without them, he'd be a jobber for life. Shawn Michaels gave him the opportunity to play with the big boys Stephanie Mcmahon gave him relations with Vince to get more connected to the business It's not about who makes sense to get at the top, it's all about politics, even moreso nowadays. Roman is linked to the Anoa'i, that's the biggest reason why he's the face of the company right now. The WWE has good relations with the family making them easy to work with and having one of them as a champion makes sense, especially given the fact that The Rock was a pretty damn successful one.

Everyone hates on Reigns the way they hated on Cena, no one realizes it takes a very specific type of dude to take on that role in the company. The Daniel Bryan's and Bray Wyatts are great champions but WWE needs a guy who not only sells out ppvs, but can go non-stop 365 with signings, appearances, media, etc. Daniel Bryan is an incredible talent but he could never take on the responsibilty that John Cena did or Roman Reigns does.
@superkid12345
@superkid12345 3 года назад
@Rod brown I agree but my point is there is a fundamental difference between being a "champ" and being "the guy" for the WWE. Because being "the guy" now doesn't mean you sell out PPV's and put on great matches, it means you're the one that does mainstream interviews, does all of the special events with kids, etc. Seth Rollins is a great champ but I don't think he would be "the guy" for WWE, guest appearing on a disney show or doing skits with Jimmy Fallon.
